It seems at this stage that St George Illawarra Dragons star centre Mark Gasnier will stay with the NRL Dragons after rejecting offers from the French Super League club Les Catalans for big dollars to make his mark on the European version of the Rugby League game.
Kevin Walters, incoming coach to the Les Catalans Dragons has claimed negotiations with Mark Gasnier and his management team had hit a brick wall dead end and it seemed very unlikely that Gasnier will link with the French club anytime soon.
Managed by George Mimis, Gasnier is still permitted by the terms in his NRL / Saints contract to discuss options with French Rugby Union clubs.
Apparently now George Mimis has said that Mark Gasnier was never really serious about the Les Catalans Dragons, meaning that some of the speculation could have simply been to boost his worth at the St George Illawarra Dragons or maybe elsewhere.
The Red Vee will be stoked about keeping one of their favourite sons at Kogarah and certainly with new coach Wayne Bennett arriving in 2009, the NRL future is looking up for the once proud and successful Rugby League club.
