Marcus Aurelius

Well this was almost the blog that never was as I was going to post this last night but spent almost an hour stuck in a groundhog day situtation. As my computer either couldn't find the server or when it did, and I logged in, it just flicked back to another log in page, all very annoying when you have that muse to write so gave it a miss and thought I would try again today.
Now you might be wondering about my post title? Well thats good as I guess you are thinking who is that? Before doing a Google search on him. To tell the truth, I don't have too much of an idea either at the moment as I had never heard of him before last week. But here is the strangest thing, that other book I was reading by Colby Buzzell, My War. One of his officers gave him a book to read based on the writings of Marcus Aurelius and since I have an interest in history, it sort of stuck in my mind.
Weird thing is, when I was reading The Science of Dr Who book, there was a quote in there by him 'Time is a sort of river of passing events, and strong is its current; no sooner is a thing brought to sight than it is swept by and another takes its place, and this too will be swept away' Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius.
Now this just struck me as weird, two totally diffrent books that I just happen to pick up to read both mention the same person who I had never heard of before until that time and if that is an actual quote by him, then he was prettycluey about things then.
Science of Dr Who book not too bad, some parts are heavy going but is interesting if you like stuff about wormholes, time travel etc.
If you live in the South Island then by now the cold weather has finally gone and you should have clear blue skies, yesterday arvo was pretty warm, so maybe summer is finally here?
Wasn't a great deal in the Press to comment on apart from the usual stuff although there was a good feature on identity theft.
Although I am not aware of it happening here too much, I know it has happened in the UK and guess with the more information that is freely available it could well show and increase.
There are many ways this is done ranging from stolen card, shoulder surfing, binning or dumpster diving, skimming, internet scams and phishing. I wonder how many people just dump their credit card statements, bills etc in the trash or recycyle pile? As this has an awful lot of your info, purchase habits etc. I tend to either shred all my bills/letters as you never know.
I was given the heads up on a writing competition before Christmas and realised that I had forgotten about it, so better start thinking about that.
