Marcus Aurelius 3
January 6th 2007 09:12
Hi again everyone
Since I wrote that piece about Marcus, I kept thinking about how the name seemed familiar somehow? Well would you know it, I was reading a copy of Empire movie mag dated Nov 2005, a friend is moving and had a clear out, so I was lucky enough to receive a big pile of various movie mags.
Having a lazy morning and turned to the back inside cover and guess what was there?
A scene from the movie Gladiator and of course the Roman emperor was Marcus Aurelius played by Richard Harris and his son Commodus played by Joaquin Phoenix, so in a space of a week, this is now three times his name has come up in three different publications, strange huh? Watch this space to see if it comes up anymore?
For everyone living in Christchurch, you will have been enjoying the lovely warm weather today and for those people living overseas, we had a great day in the Garden City. Went mountain biking today, late afternoon at the Bottlelake forest. It was totally awesome, went with a couple of friends and there were hardly anyone around and it wasn't too warm, so that was a hour thirty spent having fun. If you live in Christchurch you will know what I mean, but if you live overseas, then Christchurch has some great mtb tracks on the Port Hills, Forest and even in the Alps. Can't forget the 'Le Race' which is a 100km ride to Akaroa, which takes place every year in Feb and no I haven't done that yet.
News today, well the Black Caps got whipped at the cricket by Sri Lanka, although not as bad as the Poms with the Ashes series.
On the local news, a couple of things caught my eye as always, first one was about some young children nearly killing some kittens by chucking then in a paddling pool then bouncing them on a trampolene. Good news they survived but seems that one set of parents didn't seem too worried at what their children had done. Well no prizes for guessing how those kids will turn out when teenagers, with the parents then saying 'I don't know why they turned out like that?' I have no tolerence at all for people who are cruel to animals.
But enough of negative stuff and lets move on to something more interesting. A feature in the Mainlander section of the Christchurch Press is titled The Pacific's longest walk.
Now this is a 4200km tramping tack that threads along the mountain crest of the western United States. You start at the Mexican border and finish at the Canadian resort town of Manning Park, aprrox five months later!! There is a blog of his journey on www.trailjournals.com/henzell sounds like a blast eh? Oh well maybe one day and if you want to read a funny book then Bill Brysons A Walk in the Woods is about his trek along the longest continuous footpath in the world , The Appalacian Trail which stretches along the East Coast and is mostly 2,200 miles of remote mountain wilderness filled with bears, moose, bobcats, rattlers etc, is well worth a read.
Todays quote is 'There is no greater gift than good health. Take care of it'.
Take it easy
