What is this blogging all about? I'm sitting here, watching the darts and listening to my daughter enthusing about the lovely beaded necklace she's just made and thinking, 'what the hell do I do this for?' Blogging I mean.

Writing is one thing in my life that stops me living it. Quite frankly I've had enough of it, the constant nagging in the back of my mind, reminding me that I haven't posted for a week or two, and what should I write about?

I used to romanticise about being a writer, about creating magic with my fingertips and being my own boss, my own man, total freedom. The truth is that I'm just like you probably, getting moaned at by your loved ones that you're spending all your time on the computer, and being accused of having some online Facebook affair or something. What do you say to them? How do you explain why you spend so much time writing about yourself online, for complete strangers to probe and comment on?

This is a long way from where I thought writing would take me. I'm logging off and going outside to play catch with my little girl. See you around.

The Beautiful East

A bit of a quiz this week. I've taken some famous quotes and, as the title describes, have translated them into 'Japanese-English'. See if you can guess where the quotes are from.

Some are easy enough, where others are quite baffling. Let me know how you get on.

1. We that considered that we came, kicked the donkey.

2. And I will knock down people who will try it and I poison my brothers on the anger that is intense and to destroy the revenge that I am splendid. And you will know my name is important when you impose my revenge on I.

3. Anybody should throw out a stone to nobody till I sound this alarm bell.

4. She had to be in my thing about all gin joints on foot in all world.

5. Twas beauty let a beast die.

6. The armed forces will always be same as you.

7. It seems that you do only that you merely ignore the bloody door!

8. There will be me just here.

9. Your mother sucks a cook in the sludge that is hell, Karras. You are insincere.

10. Intelligence. Nothing brought the difficulty of about the same most in comparison with the intelligence to the human.

Shawshank Redemption

I know that I'm going to get slated for this, hung, drawn, quartered, basted in the oven for an hour and a half then buried by Stephen King fans and by people who have an almost religious conviction that books are sacred cows that can only be bastardised and never bettered, but the movie version of The Shawshank Redemption is better than the novella

The Wraith

Yes, it's true; the title of this blog could apply to me. I have been away a while. And yes, there is the matter of an Alice in Wonderland blog I've not done. Anyway, The Wraith. I've been wracking my brains to remember the title of this one, let alone the premise

I am a huge fan of the original movie and as a consequence I've avoided this so far. I fear that I will have to check it out to give a fair assessment, but I don't think my opinion that it shouldn't have been tampered with will change.

I know I'm being far too precious. I suppose that remakes are a safe bet; when you're spending the kind of money that Hollywood does on movies you expect to see a return on your investment.

on 10 Reasons Why Films Are Better Than Books

August 19th 2009 13:48
The people who were dissapointed were the fans of the books. The precious people.

I'm saying that films rule because many screen writers are much more well read than I and that I've read many superb books because of the movies that were made about them.

'Bringing' my attention even! 'Brining' sounds like some awful torture inflicted by a seafood specialist.

That'll teach me not to preview!

I think with the new technologies that 3D cinema uses, a lot of old movies may get the same treatment, giving them a second lease of life at the box office. Sounds cool to me! Ghostbusters 3D please!
