Magicians
This week I took my godson to see a magician named Cosentino (link provided). I was not expecting much, you know what it is like, they saw people in half, do some card tricks, fool around a little. However, I was really blown away by this guy.
His illusions were....um... magical, to say the least, ending off by turning the stage into a full on snow storm....
However, what really captured me was the way this young guy spoke. Sure he had the humour, he had the magicians lure, but there were a few occassions where he would have the curtains closed and sit on the edge of the stage under spotlight and just talk... I was completely drawn in by his words and his outlook on life.
See to him Magic is more than just his passion, it is who he is. He spoke of being a young boy who was never really good at school, who was shy and not very confident, until he found magic. Finally he found something that he was good at and that something now gives him the confidence to stand on stage in front of hundreds of people and do something that he loves.
He told the story of how he came to do his snow trick. When he was in Las Vegas he went to visit a sick boy and asked the boy what one thing he wanted... the boy replied he would love to see it snow. Cos did not know how to help this boy so instead rushed downstairs and bought him a snow cone and then wrote on a serviette an I O U... that one day he would return and make it snow for the boy.
Cos carried on his travels and two years later returned to Las Vegas where he looked up the young boy and went to visit him. He said as he sat by boys bedside he saw a crumpled piece of paper.... the paper that he had written the I O U on. He picked it up and tore it into pieces... he had come to pay the boy what he owed him... a snow storm. And his illusion is exactly that.... it looks like you are in a winter wonderland!!!
The human being who has a heart like this though? Very, very rare....
All power to him for continuing with his magic says I !!! In a world where the Arts are almost frowned upon, where people seem to think that it is something that only 'airy-fairy' people indulge in, where little encouragement is given I find it truly inspiring that someone has turned his craft into such a powerful tool. I cannot really do the experience justice but check out his website and if he is performing near you I highly recommend going to see him and supporting him.

Through your words, I am touched by this young man too... surely a rare heart, indeed!
I will take the girls to see him. It has been two years since we saw a good magic show and this looks like it.
Did you know that The Secret Garden was coming to or already on) in Caloundra [and the Dancing Tsar's]?
Great post, thanks for sharing this one...

thanks... just a collection of some travel pics as I was having a browse the other night... I need a bigger page to fit them all on
The course has come to a stand still for the moment unfortunately. In ashLEY world these little trails are sent rather frequently to test my patience... I`m not giving up on this one though I just have to figure out why it`s gone temporarily pear-shaped, although I have a small idea forming... we will see what the next few weeks bring... change is on the wind...
The poor kid was so tired he just snuggled up next to me... but I kept poking him in the ribs and soon he was awake. HE EMBARRASSED ME SO BADLY!!!!! Cos was asking for volunteers to go and do a trick... so he stands up, points frantically at my head and yells 'PICK HER!!'.... well I wanted to crawl into the ground because the ENTIRE audience turned around... thank goodness we were way up the back so he chose someone else!
I love him to pieces. You should hear him sing! Oh my word! He was in a talent show a couple of years ago and I was crying as I filmed him... very talented young boy he is!
see you at the Monastery....

It`s sad isn`t it? I have always been an 'airy-fairy', head up in the clouds dreamer... but what possible future could that sort of life bring?!?! Certainly it won`t rake in the cash.... ug I hate that thinking that`s why I always try and support people who are writers, artists, dancers.... I don`t quite know how to put it into words but people who are not interested in such things just don`t 'get' those who are... and sadly a lot of people who are abandon their craft in order to 'fit in' ... it saddens me, it really does.
For him you can just see that he has found his niche in life... and he lives for his craft... I hope you get the chance to see him.

This raised all the hairs on my arms in chilly goosebumps. That story about the snow is amazing. Events like this... where you think you're going to experience one thing (entertain a kid with magic) and you end up experiencing something completely different (finding yourself spellbound) is such a gift of life. Amazing where one finds epiphanies, isn't it? I love moments like these... and it's clear his magic stretches way out yonder beyond the stage.
I also love the new blog tag... so full of life's richest moments and rewards.
Beautiful story... thank you for sharing it.

(playful P.S. ~ what's wrong with 'airy-fairy'?)

I don`t know if you know what i mean when I say sometimes you just come across people who really touch your soul... and he did mine that night.
His show is definitely worth seeing, I`m sure that you will all enjoy every minute of it (he performs in Logan on 18th May)... he does some dancing and joking around... has a huge Michael Jackson influence in his moves... and some incredible illusions, but there was just so much more to him.
I read on his site that he is a motivational speaker, especially amongst the young people and you can see why. I cannot stand to see young people`s dreams quashed. I heard about a boy the other day who was looking really raggedy and digging in the bins near work for food. Someone bought him something to eat and he rushed off. Anyways a few hours later some Police came in looking for him saying that his mother was worried about him and that he had been kicked out of all the local schools because he was a troublemaker. The Policewoman just laughed when this girl said she had bought him something to eat.
You know that kid is going to have such a rough life ahead because he gets dismissed. He isn`t getting an education, he is labelled a troublemaker... and no one cares. I think that`s why this Cos fellow affected me like he did... he is proof that dreams can come true and that when people like him offer a hand to build hope in others... well it just makes the world a better place.
oh listen to me.... lol I`m tired so a little drained
I missed The Secret Garden... argh! I think it`s finished now. But The Flying Tzars is on 2nd May... plus Kiss me Kate and Queen - It`s a Kinda Magic tour .... lots on the go, I love the theatre!!!
The most exciting news I have heard in ages?? THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA IS ON IN MELBOURNE... oh my word, how excited am I? I always wanted to go and see it in London but then something else seemed to get in the way... this time? I don`t care if I have to chain myself to those theatre doors I`m going to see it!
As for the giraffe? if you want to giggle you should see them getting down like that LOL such a mission for them! We used to go horse riding out in the bush and once came close to some giraffe's .... they are such graceful animals. If you want to drink like that? Fill a pool with some vino and hey presto!
To do the banner I just used the Windows Paint programme, open two at the same time.... one as your canvass, the other to open your photos onto and copy from... used a black page, copied and pasted some photos on, resized them, used the Spray Can effect .... et voila!
enjoy the housework... if that`s possible

Yeah it was just incredible... lol watch people go and see the show and go.... gee she`s a bit of a fruit, it`s just a magic show hello!
But I just felt really drawn to this stranger... I wish him all the blessings in the world... YOU GO BOY!!!!!
yep! that is so true! in the least expected places hey?!
I`m chuffed that everyone likes the banner. I was going to change it because it was a little rushed but it can stay a while. You are right about the pictures... there are a LOT of stories behind each and every one of them... lots!! *GRIN*
I hope you are having a great Easter weekend...

Thanks for sharing this, I've never heard of this particular magician before, but i've seen that snow trick before performed by David Copperfield.
I love watching magicians perform, some are really good, many are so bad that you'd want to ask for a refund.
I know several tricks as well, mostly card tricks

oh my ... if you get the chance to see him I highly recommend it. The snow trick was just the final cherry on an already delicious cake... I won`t ruin it by saying any of his other tricks... I have probably said too much already.
You will definately not be asking for a refund here I assure you!
Oh I would ask you to divulge your secrets, but as Christian Bale says in 'The Prestige' ... you are nothing once you reveal the magic (or something like that!)
Happy Easter

Yeah he was really good... such a young person and yet so inspiring... definitely an old soul this one.
It was more than his illusions though... he will be heading down Sydney way I think... try and look out for him....

I have a strange obsession with fantasy and the ethereal, and magic is something I have loved since I was a wee boy. Sadly, magic tricks - in my opinion - are a little lame, but this guy sounds so cool. I learnt my first trick in hiding a wand. That was dodgy. Crappy magic tricks like that give magicians a bad name. I have to see that film too. The one where the magicians fight it out.... With Christian Bale? You know what I mean.
Anyway, glad you loved the magic, as will I when I see him.

He is definitely worth the trip and for fifteen bucks who can go wrong?? The snow storm was beautiful... his whole show was amazing I would definitely go again ... if you do get to see him check out the table routine...WOW!!!
ah yes! if I could go back in time I would love to have a walk with Merlin in enchanted castles.....
Just remember that all Magicians start out with the little tricks....
There are a couple of good magic movie out at the moment... 'The Illusionist' and 'The Prestige' .... I would recommend both.
have a great weekend

I've seen 3 other magicians do the same trick with the SAME story! Did they all buy the same book?
Honestly, after I found out that this was a "standard" bit most magicians do in their act ( with the same feel good story ), I felt a little disappointed. Not too creative if they lifted material from someone else's act.
I understand performing the same snow trick.... but with the same script?
