The animal kingdom has always inspired fashion with its zebra prints and reptile textures. While Lady Gaga and Sophie Dahl may get experimental with McQueen’s armadillo-inspired shoes, we mere mortals have to play this trend with a little caution. If you’re the kind who’s a bit conservative about going wild with outfits, your accessories can help you embrace this trend with grace.

This season, accessories are the ultimate conversation starters. Nothing grabs attention like a larger than life accessory; you can contrast modest outfits with over-the-top animal inspired watches, necklaces and cocktail rings. If going animalistic is a bit too much for the nonchalant girl in you, go subtle with quirky rings and brooches that draw just the right amount of attention.

Luckily Indian jewelery has constantly been inspired by nature and you don’t restrict yourself to western statement pieces. Pick up vintage kundan peacock earrings and play with them to suit your ensemble – go all out in traditional attire or go tribal with the must-have Ikat dress, just remember to keep it fun.

Visionaire, the fashion and art bible, has created a limited edition book in honour of Alexander McQueen – and they’ve roped in some of the finest names in fashion to help them.
The book features contributions from the likes of Nick Knight Steve Klein, Mario Testino and Lady Gaga, and includes images inspired by McQueen, each of which is printed on paper embedded with wildflower seeds – and, when they’re planted and watered, the pages blossom along with your creativity!!!!!!!!!!
As the fashion world knows well, out of tragedy can often come great beauty. Back in 1996, Visionaire first featured the provocative designs of young iconoclast Lee Alexander McQueen, and from thereon in he was a treasured, continuous inspiration for the magazine. In 2003, McQueen went to Visionaire's New York offices to discuss collaborating on a special issue--an issue that sadly never came to be. But now, five months after his tragic suicide, Visionaire presents a grand, limited-edition tribute to his genius that's as captivating as the man himself.
Ornamented in gold brocade from his Spring 2010 show, 58 Spirit: A Tribute to Lee Alexander McQueen is bursting at the seams with inspiration, both artistic and literal.
It's a heart stopping, beautiful, unique tribute to one of the greatest designers in recent memory, a rare tome that inspires special collaboration with artist, reader, and nature.
The relationship between fashion and art has long been a debated topic both within fashion studies and art criticism.
It emerged at the origin of modern fashion when the couturiers used to perceive and describe themselves as artists. [ Click here to read more ]
Clean Energy
How best to head into the new decade? With a clean slate. Led by a resurgent Phoebe Philo at Celine, designers have rediscovered that less is more all over again for Spring, but this isn't the mannish minimalism of the 1990's. Dresses at Calvin Klein Collection and Donna Karan billowed and frilled; there were feminine takes on tailoring at Yves Saint Laurent; and thanks to Michael Kors' cutouts and Hussein Chalayan's thigh-high slits, we also saw lots of skin. Creating a fashion line is a question of imagination, it's all about you: what fabrics, colours, cut and generally the style you like. On the other hand, successfully launching a clothing line means it has been created, made available to the final consumer, and ideally they like your style. When there's a buzz, when a new brand of clothes is welcomed by a large public, purchased and spoken about, it can decently be said that the fashion line has been successfully launched. For a fashion line to be successful when launched, you need to have thoroughly prepared the launch. I like the term "launching a fashion line" because it sounds very similar to launching a rocket in the sky: You calculate a number of factors long in advance, create the rocket and then launch it.
At the time of launching, one do not have any guarantees of anything. You can only hope that all the hard work of organizing the distribution, the marketing will translate in sales. Hope? No, Preparation! Preparation is certainly a keyword. The idea, in my mind, is to do as much as possible before the launch of the clothing line: market research, partners' research, networking, and advertising. We all tend to be optimistic about the figures, we think that the sales will come easy and we underestimate the costs related to the sales. [ Click here to read more ]
