Waka Waka - Soccer World Cup Is Here

I am blessed to be a South African ... the greatest sports spectacle on earth is here! Though I did not have tickets to the Kick-Off Concert last night I did sit (in my very warm lounge) and watch the performances.
In advance I just need to say I was just embarrassed for the Black Eyed Peas ... normally liking their music I cannot say the same for their live performance.
Most of you probably had no idea who our local acts were, not to worry we don't blame you. But in South Africa Freshly Ground and The Parlatones are as big as can be. Both groups having toured internationally, recorded great albums and received much praise. Hopefully you enjoyed them.
Surprisingly the song by Shakira, Waka Waka has not been received as well by South African's. Most complaining she is not African, and many others saying the it's a slap in the face for Freshly Ground for their small part in the song. Though I agree we could have had a South African artist for the official song, I cannot say I don't like Shakira's song. It's fun, has a great vibe and the video, and aside from having Shakira in it, makes me smile.

Ton's of soccer games to come on the small box, I might even go to my 3D cinema and watch a game or two in 3D, which is being offered as we have no 3D TV channels in South Africa.

Prince Of Persia

Exams are over ... oh boy ... spare time, what is that?

So have you ever had an "oh shame" moment? Well I kinda had one when standing at the movie house wondering which film to watch. My "oh shame" moment was for Prince Of Persia .... laughed at by gaming fans, only moderately received by critics, and not the biggest hit at the box office ... yet. Having grossed $220 million (rough figure but close) ... thus only making $20 million extra on top of the $200 production budget.
Now I've played the games, and am a big fan of them too. And after watching the film I cannot say I don't like it. It was a good visual experience, the acting was fine (notice "fine") and my time in the theatre did not seem like a total waste of money. Yes I am aware the film had elements of multiple versions of all the games, yes I too am aware that Jake (the girls favourite) did not come off as very heroic to me, and yes I did notice Gemma's good looks (Sigh!!).
I think it a pity there won't be a series for Prince of Persia, for if Disney did not continue with the Narnia series due to under-performance, I'm sure nothing will happen here unless by some miracle the film earns another two or three hundred million in the next few weeks.
Support the film, it's fun.
We all sit in the theatres and think "I could have done a better job." or "they should have done..." I had my options with this movie. Firstly I would have stuck to the plot of one game only. Secondly I would not have made some scenes look like they evolved out of the game ... for instance they focused too much on Dastan swinging on poles and the side wall running, (but that's personal opinion), thirdly if there were to be a second film in a potential series I would go for an original script and not follow the game. I think that is perhaps where many movies don't adapt well if inspired by the PC/Console game.
And was it just me or did you feel like at times they mixed up Assassins Creed with Prince of Persia??

For fun and entertainment I'll happily give this film 7/10 Stars =)

Summer ... or in my situation Winter Spectacular!

Normally when looking into the Summer months for the US you can spot the number 1 films even before they hit the big screen. Especially if one is a proven franchise! But I now look into the month of May: Sex and The City 2 VS Prince Of Persia! Can I say this is a repeat of Sex and The City 1 VS Indiana Jones, though at least back then there was a week in between the two! Not now, it's 1 day! This time who will win, Gaming Geeks (I'm part of that group) or wild women? (Scream!) ... Personally I've got my money on Prince of Persia, women can get something out of that film, I'm sure!
Follow the rest of the Summer season and most of the films look as if they will only have the ability to stay one week on top, Shrek 4, Killers, The A Team, Toy Story 3, Twilight, The Last Airbender, Despicable Me ... I'm short of breath just looking at them. I seriously hope everybody has been saving their pocket money for an exciting season of film.
But now it sounds like I'm complaining, oh hell no! Bring on the films, my only worry is I'll have little time for what is supposed to be an important time in my life, dare I say it? Studies!

Actually looking into 2011 it seems to be much of the same story. I'm delighted to see film progressing even more. Stop Piracy, enjoy these films, it just means we get more of them! The only piracy I want to see is everybody going to watch Pirates of The Caribbean next year.

Sigh! Too much Study and Not Enough Blog!

As like the majority of the world I have an education to complete, alas I have done nothing but study for a month, little breaks except for my birthday.
The cinema seemed like some sort of distant dream ... therefore I have not watched the latest and greatest, Iron Man 2 (actually come to think of it there has been nothing great at the cinema - I'm not one for a J Lo film, or a silly remake of a very good original film, Death at a Funeral!)
Actually the only movie's I have indulged in have been on the small screen and on TCM ... a list? Okay! I have watched, most days at about 11:30 PM, Gone With The Wind (I was sick ... no explanation needed!), Little Woman, Meet Me In St Louis, Singing In The Rain, Spartacus, Ben-Hur and Cleopatra. Some might sound a little ... out of the ordinary, but when one is too lazy to drag himself to the cinema they do all right

Question! How do sexual scenes in film affect you?

I know I only have 6 daily readers, which means a great deal to me thus far. I'm wanting to do some minor research for my next blog entry, if you could just leave a comment about how you react sexual scenes in film and television? I ask this because at the moment in South Africa (my home country) there is a heated debate about such a thing and porn.
So please feel free to leave a comment ... short or long I'll read it. =)

The Book VS. The Film (Hobbit Style)

So we now live in a world where multiple books are turned into films yearly. LOTR, Harry Potter, Narnia and the list can go on.
Considering LOTR's success I feel I have to ask the following questions about The Hobbit. Overall how will the feel of the film differ with a new director? How will the film differ from the book? WTF, why does The Hobbit need a sequel?
Considering LOTR was an epic saga is was understandable that so much was cut from the book so as to be converted into a suitable film time length. Though I still remain unhappy that the chapters concerning Tom Bomdadil were omitted from film. Though not a key point I feel it added some light-heartiness to the story

The Young Victoria

So I was standing in the DVD rental store yesterday wondering what next to write about, I was to lazy to travel to the cinema to watch anything new! Now I mentioned yesterday I don't like art house films, now I have retract that comment to say there are some that are okay.
So carrying on with my Emily Blunt saga I picked up a copy of the Young Victoria, so I knew the back story having done history in high school, and considering it was my favourite subject I paid my 10 bucks and scooted on home happy as can be.
Firstly the DVD did not work, how convenient! So off to the DVD store I went and returned home with another copy. Up went the petrol bill and the unhappy lady behind the counter charged me another 10 bucks, "you bitch

The Wolfman

So I have to ask myself this one question. Why was I sitting alone in the movie theater when I watched this? It's true, I was all alone, unless you count the attending who walked in and out several times (I'm still deciding if it was because he too was watching or if he was trying to make sure I was not sneaking food in.)
In all, and unlike the other people who get paid to do this stuff, I enjoyed it. Not having seen the origional, (and who would want to?) I do have a deep respect for films of old but not the ones with "special effects".
Secondly I watched the film for Emily Blunt, should there be any other reason

It's a new dawn ....

So why a blog on films? Easy! A job was advertised and this is the way to get it! Am I too straight forward???
About me? Well I'm 20 (21 in May) live in South Africa, yes we do have cinema's here! We do not ride a elephant to and from work and as far as I know and we don't use smoke signals to send texts to each other. =)
We do get movies on time (except the art house movies) and who really wants to watch those films
