Love

This is an old thought of mine, something I stashed away a lifetime ago and only just recalled... back from the days when I was still sifting through the avalanche of emotions that accompany a breakup/rebound cycle.
Anyhoo...
Love. Is love a feeling? What i mean to say is... is it possible to love people differently?
Actually, scratch that. I can answer that myself. I love my sister differently from the way I love my best friend, which too is different from the way I love a girlfriend, etc.
What i mean to say is... well, let's take the girlfriend angle as a basis, because it's probably the most... influential type of love, i suppose.
To explain, let me recite the quote that brought about this whole thought train. A girl said she used to love me, but that love was in actuality dependant on the setting we were both in at the time. After we left that setting, the relationship crumbled.
So I ask you this... is love a pure feeling, or is it dependant on other factors? Can you love someone with all your heart at one point, but then something changes and the love fades? (i'm not talking an event that alters either party involved in the love-relationship, i mean external environmental factors).
Or, on the flip side, was I not really loved?
Oh, and as a side note to Al, don't read into this. These are random musings (as the title of the blog implies), and nothing more. I know you read into things... so don't.
