Local League Legend John Rankin
May 18th 2008 03:58
Name: John Rankin
Nickname: JR
DOB 21.07.47
Born At: Goulburn, NSW
Position: Centre/Wing
Seasons: 17 years
Height: 178 cm
Weight: 92 kg
First Job: Shop Assistant
Current Job: Cleaner
My earliest football memory is: watching games at League Park as a 6 year old
At school I was: school captain Goulburn Public School (Bourke St) 1959
Coaches always told me: don’t come off field believing you could have done more (Phil Jackson, 1962)
My favourite football moment is: After 4 successive grand final losses, finally winning in 1965 with Goulburn United under 18s
Before games I: never drank the day before
The hardest thing I have ever done in football is: continue to follow the manly Sea Eagles with all the “s***” put on by others
The game that changed my career was: playing group 8 first grade for Goulburn United at 16 yrs of age
I want to be remembered in football for: being hard, giving 100% and leaving everything on the paddock
The thing I remember about my first game is: 3 cm frost on North Park
My goals in football were: to play to the best of my ability, enjoy the game, and the friendship made
If I didn’t play football, I would rather: have a refreshing ale & watch the game (see picture below)
