Repentance
March 10th 2011 03:32
This past week we learned about repentance.
The lesson started out with an attention activity. These always help to calm the kids down and start them in answering questions. This week the attention activity was about bandaids. First we showed the children a bandage and then asked has anyone had a cut? Immidiately a kid jumped up an showed us a cut that they had. Then we asked how did it feel? They said that it did not hurt too bad. Then we asked what do we do with this bandage when we get a cut? They were so smart and said to not only put the bandage on it but to clean the cut first so it would heal faster and not get infected.
To relate this to repentance. When we do something wrong its like having a cut it hurts inside and we feel bad. But if we repent it is like getting a bandaid it will help us to feel better again.
The kids in the class really enjoy it when we tell stories. So we told a story about a kid named Ricardo. He is a made up character. Ricardo was at the store going to get some thread for his mother. When Ricardo was at the counter he saw his favorite candy. He then saw that he did not have enough money to get the thread and his favorite candy. Then While the store clerk was away getting the right thread Ricardo stuck the candy into his pocket. He paid for the thread and left the store. Ricardo ate the candy on the way home. He began to think of what he had been taught.
We then asked the children these questions.
How do you think Ricardo felt?
Some of them replied unhappy. As others were sitting there in there own little world.
What has Ricado done wrong?
He stole candy.
No one knew the answer to the next question though which was. What can Ricardo do to be happy again. The answer was repent.
We then wrote the first step of repentance which is feel sorry. When we realize that we have done something wrong we must admit it and feel sorry.
We then wrote the second step which was ask for forgiveness. We then asked who does Ricardo need to ask forgiveness from. They answered Heavenly Father. It then took them a while to get that he needed to ask the store keeper of forgiveness as well.
Then we told them the third step that is right the wrong. We then asked what were some ways that Ricardo could right the wrong. They said that he should give back the candy. But I said that he couldn't do that because he ate the candy. They then said to pay for the candy. Then we asked what if he did not have any money. They said then ask his parents for some. We then said he could work for the store keeper as well.
The last step to repentance is to never do it again.
The last thing that we did in the lesson was tell the children to act out the story of Ricardo. They could not do it at first and then we narrated it. Two were candy one was the store kepper one was Ricardo and the last one did not want to participate so they were a spectator.
I know that my Savior suffered on the cross and died for me. I am so grateful for his gift of repentance. I hope we all will live with him once more.
