Life - it's Like That! - January 2007

Going through the archived newspapers, a lady found this extract in a 1901 Australian paper in Kempsey NSW!

A GIRL SHOULD LEARN TO:

Sew
Cook
Mend
Be Gentle
Value Time
Dress Neatly
Keep a Secret
Be self reliant
Avoid idleness
Rspect old age

Darn stockings
Mind the baby
Make good bread
Keep a house tidy
Make a home happy
Be above gossiping
Control her temper
Take care of the sick
Sweep down cobwebs
Humor a cross old man
Marry a man for his worth
Read the very best of books
Keep clear of flash literature
Take plenty of active exercise
Be a help-mate to her husband
Be light hearted and fleet-footed
Wear shoes that won't cramp the feet
Be a womanly woman under all circumstances.

Note: What!! No Lawn mowing or Wood Chopping???

A bit different from today's women?

ANY THOUGHTS??

Driving in the Dirt - Australia

][Looking outside the window as I drive along this dusty road,

I think of where I have travelled and where I still go.
Travelling over mountain ranges, forest and hills.
Across dusty plains and ridges,.
This land of ours is vast and wide
With many a wonder here and there,
As far as the eye can see there is beauty
From a thriving city centre to a desert plain.
The weather doesn’t matter the beauty is always here.
People, animals and places – somewhere to call home.
There is some nook, some cranny that some critter calls home.
Our land is full of the weird and wonderful.
Lizards that look like walking rocks,
Various sized critters that hop.
There are small and cuddly bears,
Mammals that dig in the dirt.
A little creature with a bill like a duck,
Who swims in our fresh water ways.
Black & white birds that swoop at your head
With little ones on the way.
As I drive throughout Australia
I see many wonderful things,
Waterfalls, dusty plains, mountain ranges.
Beaches full of sparkling blue water
With glorious golden sand.
Wherever I go, whatever I do
Theres much to explored and a host of things to do.

Keeping Cool at Boiling Point!

Grace under fire… No it’s not being chased into a fire, nor a war zone, not a prayer, or even
a girl’s name. It’s all of the above and a whole lot more. It’s the ability to keep hold of your temper and not say things in the heat of the moment; it’s being to control your response to any given situation. Being in control of you therefore being able to control some parts of your life. You can complain about the weather and friends, the boss, the cat had kittens; the kids are driving you crazy or a billion and one excuses about why these things happen to you. Reality is you can have some influence on some things outside of yourself. For the rest of the time you can only control yourself.

Controlling yourself is not to manipulate others into doing what you want or being forceful. It doesn’t involve using emotional blackmail “the or else.” syndrome or the silent treatment. It isn’t taking your bad moods out on some one nearby or blaming others for your mistakes. It’s not being so scared that you will dodge and weave to avoid a person or situation. It’s not being so full of fear that you have irrational thoughts screaming through your head at one hundred miles per hour. Thinking of what you can do to stop, avoid or put off dealing with the situation. It’s not being so scared to ask for help that you feel like you are the only one – feelings of being suicidal. Dealing with anger in a positive way so that it doesn’t explode whereby you might do something to regret later on
