Life is like a cup of hot chocolate.
This week the Kitty Hawk made her departure from our shores and it seemed as the whole coast came to a stand still and lined the shores, despite the cool and blustery conditions. I found myself perched on the edge of the land, waves crashing over the rocks below and waiting to see something emerge from the ghostly mist that was gathered over the water on the horizon.
My thoughts drifted to and fro, tumultuous as the sea itself.
Amazing how so many people will come out to see something that is designed to cause destruction and death. This weekend is the tree planting ceremony... I wonder where they will all be then?
What kind of hypocrite are you? You are sitting here, amongst these people waiting to see the WAR ship, not the PEACE ship.
Yeah but I`m going to be planting trees! And besides this is an excuse for me to just be somewhere that is not there.
Amazing the excuses that we come up with to make ourselves feel better. The reason I was there was, indeed to see the ship, but as half an hour turned to three hours it became something much more. After just about every second person who walked past would stop for a chat - Have you seen anything yet? Um have you? No? Well, then do you think I have? - I eventually found a place between some trees to just enjoy the peace and quiet and watch the sea and sip my hot chocolate (I am generally a friendly person I just have my moments when I really don`t feel like making small talk, especially when it is about the same thing over and over again!) and the next thing the most beautiful sight came into view.
Something which I have never seen before. Something which chilled me more than the wind that was buffeting my skin and blowing my hair in crazy directions. However, this was a good chill. It was an eerie chill - one of those ones where a voice seems to whisper a truth in your ear that you have known is there, but have refused to pay attention to. I heard the voice and I looked at this beautiful sight and I realised... I am a cup of hot chocolate! There is it, that is my map in life. Now before you spit your tea out or click off, shaking your head and thinking I have finally gone completely daft... bear with me! I saw this sight, this very reminder of a promise made to each and every one of us that things are going to be all right...
Right there, above that churning and swirling dark water hung a rainbow, mixing it`s vivid colours over the wild sea. I sipped the hot chocolate, swirled it around and felt it rushing between my teeth, over my tongue and realised.... this is all a process... you cannot be the sprinkling on the top without first discovering the perfect bean, the process, the combination...
See it takes time to find the right bean to make the right hot chocolate. Then the dirt is washed away and the husk is removed to reveal the raw bean inside where the flavour is stored, where the essence is held. You can hold that bean in your hand, turn it, look at it, talk to it, but you have to find the right process to extract the right flavour.
Even then, once you have extracted what you need, found that flavour that will realise the full potential of the bean, the process is still far from over. You have to blend that with other ingredients, just the right amount so you do not spoil the flavour. You have to exert just enough energy, pour enough of yourself into it to make it perfect.
Even then the process is not complete. If the milk is too hot it will burn the flavour away, if it is too cold it will not release it all. Finally when you have the right heat, the right passion to bring out the best flavours you can sprinkle your powder ontop.
And then you have to find the right people to drink it... because not every has the same taste... in fact not everyone even likes hot chocolate!
So where are you in your process? I`m still looking for the right bean to use, but with lots of help (thank you, you know who you are!) all of a sudden I think I at least found the right tree to start with.

You may keep moving on by travelling, I take an internal journey of the mind, which is forever changing.
Strange happenings are afoot, in Shakespeare's terms, but all I can say is, "I hope so".
Lovely post, war and peace are always juxtaposed as is all of life itself. It's as simple as Newton's third law, which, of course, is not simple at all.
Well done, Ash. Loved the pictures and the conversation, both internal and external.

what incredible pictures...loved the rainbow over the water!
Beautiful! I've been to Newport News, Virginia and have seen The Nimitz and the Kennedy aircraft carriers up close and personal...
Even though you know what they were made for, you can't help but to admire their beauty and engineering...They just exude grace and power...
I enjoyed taking this journey with you a lot, and here's to your evolution!
Take care,
Nick

What a great analogy!! Don't they say, it's not about the destination, it's the journey? Too often we forget that we're all part of a bigger process.
Fantastic pics by the way!

Swapped! I get you on this one:
There sure is. It`s usually a hard task getting me to sit still for 5 minutes.... I hardly noticed the 3 hours ticking away!

travelling is most certainly a journey of the mind as it is one of the body... whew I would hate to be the person I was before travelling! Travel on says I - body and mind, stagnation sets in otherwise.
Opposing forces are indeed what makes the world interesting ....

ah yeah it is quite a sight, especially the planes on board. I had originally linked to Dusk`s website where you can read the facts... but the link colour didn`t change so I have highlighted it now. There are some amazing facts that go along with it too! I have ammended it now so you can check them out.

It`s all about the right bean isn`t it? Excellent news... that daily cuppa is most important
This was the weirdest rainbow I have seen because it completely settled over the water like a dome. Perhaps because it was so close to shore and I could see it so clearly... very beautiful.
have a great weekend too

I reckon hey! I often forget this myself... just rushing toward that goal without stopping to enjoy the scenery along the way.
Beautiful sights around when Mother Nature puts on a display

A lot of times while in full time psychiatric care, I was asked "do you recieve special messages from your environment?" I knew, exactly what they were referring to. I always said no, even though I was.
This is because that is the essence of the line for me - where insanity and sanity are drawn. I ALWAYS recieve special messages like you describe this rainbow - the, its gonna be ok, we're watching you, message. Its when there are too many saying different things that I have to breathe deep, draw in the boundaries, and find the path again.
Im not sure Im a cup of hot chocolate. No matter how many times I try to describe myself or become an analogy I fail. But Im so glad for your clarity here - I could hear your mind becoming crystal through the words.
Did you ever see the ship? Were all those people planting trees?

It was certainly an interesting day... with fireworks of ideas sparkling around the place. Must have been some great energy in the air.

That`s why I love being out in nature so much... there is such a 'clarity' as you say, everything seems so real and poetic. I think that`s what I dislike most about 'civilised' society - it`s so unpoetic.
I sure did see the ship - quite amazing, like a floating city. Check out Dusk`s site for some great facts (I linked it in my post) on the Kitty Hawk. Unfortunately I don`t know anyone who planted trees... but there sure were a whole lot who turned up to see the ship.
