Life in My 40's - by Life In the 40's

Meet my nemesis....who we shall call ..... Squirrelly.

Squirrelly has been making a meal of onion rings on my back porch. Yes onion rings. I had taken Diva and Son to Kelly's the other day...note to self - never ask for the large onion rings.....you get a huge freaking bag....hense the onion rings in the garbage. Yes I know, it's my own fault that Squirrelly is out there. I should have put the trash bags into the actual bins, but I didn't. Now I have this animal sitting on my porch eating Onion rings. He's a bold little bugger too. Yesterday we had a stare off. Okay, I have the bigger brain of the two of us but still. Little flucker didn't flinch. just stared at me and ate his/her onion ring. Next thing I know he/she will be perched at the bathroom window waiting for what...french fries? Ketchup? Tartar sauce?

Christmas 2006

January 3rd 2007 16:04

Well, it's over and done. The wrapping paper, once pretty and shiny and on boxes with bows is now crumpled and ripped and sitting in trash bags. There are 9 bottles of champagne sitting on my back porch....and no I didn't have any. A typical Christmas Eve here at the Life Isn't Simple home involves much champagne. But this year there seemed to be more consumed and more tears. Of the good kind. My MIL cried when an old friend of my BIL's came by. She cried again when the Hubs cousin told her he was moving back home to Massachusetts from San Francisco. (Oh and btw, K- you gave the Diva a pretty good knot on her head ....good thing she idolizes you.)

Okay, anyone else need a serious Starbucks drip? I feel like I've been going non stop for days now. Plus side - the weather here in Boston has been unreal! I haven't had to use mittens, scarves or hats for over a week now.

Holiday season is in full swing in the Life Isn't Simple home. Presents are beginning to get wrapped. It only took me 45 minutes driving around a mall parking lot to finally figure out what to get Son and Diva's teachers for presents. Yeah I know, I'm a teacher...it should be easy....but it's not. MORE pressure is on you to not get a lame gift! (ended up with Dunkin Donuts gift cards.....)

stockings hung by the cd rack with care

Sorry ... no fireplace.

The season officially begins for us when we see Santa coming on his sleigh at the end of the Macy's Parade. The Diva was all psyched up to see Hannah Montana...and they showed her for all of 20 seconds. But the Diva was not sad....she just launched into all the Hannah Montana songs that she knows....blended all into one song

Tis the season

Remember when you were young? I mean young enough to believe that Santa was really watching?

You got the Sears catalog (when it weighed a TON) and took your favorite writing utensil and circled things you wanted and made your list. You handed it off to Mom or Dad or whomever you handed it to.

So it's now November 1st. Halloween is over. The eggs have been tossed (several on the kindergarten window). Pumpkins seemed to have been saved in my neighborhood.
This weekend the Halloween decorations come in and thoughts turn to planning my first Thanksgiving. Well not "my first" .... more like the first one I'm hosting in my home. I get to make it all. Believe it or not I'm looking forward to it.
What to make....is it going to be homemade or store bought? Which recipe to use for sweet potatoes. Thank God Mom is making the turkey. That's one big thing to be ticked off my list. When you have a BIL who is a baker, the pie issue is one that is often a no-brainer. You get the pies from him. But this year I want to make them. Pumpkin and Apple.....maybe blueberry, at son's request. At some point in the next few days I must force myself to sit down and make a list. ((Do I have to make that greenbean casserole with the fake onions [ Click here to read more ]

Junk Drawers

October 31st 2006 16:47
When I was little the junk drawer was a place full of treasures. Coins tossed in randomly. Pens and pencils to draw and write with. An odd peice of hard candy. Batteries for my radio. Old greeting cards and pictures sent from relatives that were supposed to go into albums but never made it that way. Candles for black outs. Flashlights where the batteries were supposed to go into.
Mom always said "Stay out of the junk drawer. That's none of your business." Were there more secret treasures in there that I wasn't supposed to find?
