is my opinion my own??

The other day i got into a discussion with some people at uni about how much influence the media has on us in persuading, changing and or modifying our beliefs and actions. Does the media really tell us what to think? If so how does it effect society as a whole?

Just curious on peoples opinions, so post a comment =)

the day every girl dreams of...her wedding day..

Well i do believe its every girls dream. But in a way its easy to become skeptical about the whole marriage "thing". More than half of all nuptials break up in the first year, its bascailly like comparing it to a new business, only a few will survive. It truly does make you think, WHAT ARE WE DOING WRONG?? Most of our grandparents would still be together, or together until they die. Truly obeying the vows of 'death do us part'.

So what is the difference between tying the knot back in the 1950's to now. It truly does make me wonder. Is it our lifestyle, is it that women are becoming more independent? Is it the rise of infidelity or are people just too pre-occupied with their own lives and losing site of each other?

BEBO, MYSPACE and FACEBOOK junkie...

I am addicted thats right ADDICTED to profile pages. Everytime i log onto the net, i have to check out each one to see if anything has changed. Do i have some bebo love? Has someone Poked me? Or is there a new comment. When i first joined bebo, (the one that broke my profile virginity) i didnt use it all that often. I just joined it because i would get pestering emails from many friends saying:

Rich or Famous...?

The age old question, would you rather be rich or famous, or why not both? You look at all these young stars heading off the rails, using drugs, heading into rehab or just becoming another lollypop. When i use to look at some of these young famous women, i looked to them with wonder in my eyes, wishing i could somehow be like them, have their lifestyle, be rich and have the fame that goes with it. Now i cant just help pity them, they will never know anonymity, they will never know what it is like to walk out into a crowd and just blend in. When you think about it being a nobody, just another face in the crowd is a good thing.

I really do just feel sorry for the likes of Britney and Lindsay, they are young just like me. Although the only difference is when i have a bad day and or week or maybe feel like i am spiraling down into a black hole it isnt splattered across magazines world wide, where everyone knows, comments and talks about my problems. It may sound like a am preaching something here that we should leave them alone, but i am the first to admit that i LOVE a gossip magazine. Sometimes in some sick way when i see them failing for a moment it makes me think, they aren't perfect, they are just like you or me and i feel good about tht. In some ways it brings my ideas about them down to earth abit, and change my perspective about who they really are. Although how can i say that i know who they are, i don't, we don't know who they really are. We only know what the media portrays them to be. So we shouldnt judge, spread nasty rumours, because how would you like it if you were in their position.

A Second life??

The other day i found out about a internet site that seemed to be quite the craze, Second Life. When i was told about it, i felt like i had been living under a rock, with over 8 million members world wide it has to be something out of the ordinary. To me it sounded like another Sims, although you can interact and actually live a virtual life, using your own money to buy "Linden" dollars the money that is used in Second Life or SL as the players call it. To me it seemed intriguing. I've heard of something similar but not so complex, Habbo Hotel.

Technology has become so complex in recent years. So are we going to become an anti-social generation, only using the means of the internet to connect with people? We are already connecting with people through email, msn and of course profile pages such as my space, facebook and bebo (i of course have one of each). They are addictive, easy ways to communicate and keep in touch with friends and relatives. But if you think about it, how impersonal are we all becoming. I know, as we get older we are getting busier and busier with work, uni, families etc, but how far is too far?

Cynical? Maybe.. childhood.. priceless..

So i sat and contemplated about a few things last night before i fell asleep. It wasnt at all serious matters but more or less a whole lot of bullshit, it had been a long day which just allowed my mind to wonder.

I started to think about certain myths and wives tales that i was told when i was a little girl. "Make sure you eat those crusts otherwise you wont get curly hair".. kinda ironic seeing i have naturally curly hair myself. Or how about the one if you eat more carrots you will beable to see in the dark. Well i can tell you i ate a whole lot of veggies when i was younger and i still have to wear glasses and or contacts. Lets just put it down to genetics.

Nearly 20...

I'm verging on turning the big 2-0, thats right offically leaving my teenage years behind and becoming somewhat of an adult. If i was asked two years ago when i first turned eighteen if i was an adult i would have said yes with a capital Y. I had just finished High School, was mature and was ready to take on the world. Well of course i was, i could enter a pub or club and drink the nights away, i could vote and make myself try and feel heard, even my parents even started to loosen the invisible chain around my ankles and treated me more as a equal.

Yet two years later i have come to a stop, the world seems to be moving yet i seem to be somewhat still. I have become unsure, after being so sure those two short years ago. I dont know what i am going to after i finish university at the end of next year. I've changed my mind about what career path i want to take so many times, i feel ridiculous.
