Louboutin love

December 9th 2008 08:53
Aaaaahhhhh, beautifuly crafted, hand made shoes are a treat for the feet and the soul.

My new Louboutin's served me grandly at a recent wedding - through a 15 hour day they did not pinch, rub, scrape or torment my feet. The mark of a good shoe is when it leaves no mark on you! The only negative thing I did feel in wearing them for a full day was that towards midnight the balls of my feet were sore from standing and dancing...but any high heel shoe will do that.

The rest of the experience was like walking in a soft, misty white heaven of delight...

Can you see why? I love that something can be so delicate and elegant and yet give the proper support and comfort. Something so beautiful and yet so practical. They remind me of my porcelain tea set - it too is refined and delicate yet extremely useful. They say when treated correctly - like warmed properly before pouring in the hot water - fine bone china is a very strong material and will last a lifetime.

These Louboutin's will be treated preciously but whether I can get into them at age 80 when they have lasted a lifetime is a different story. Well, perhaps I can keep them in the tea cabinet for my visual delight while I sip tea from my porcelain tea cup.

We are not our clothes

August 17th 2008 03:45
I don't know if I'm stating the obvious but true beauty is not solely reliant on fashion. Magazine fashion editors will argue with me and any obsessed fashionista will probably not be able to see the truth in this statement but I'm talking from the soul not from the ego.

What makes me blog on this topic is that I recently witnessed fashionistas at the Rosemount Fashion festival in Sydney. I was eating my lunch near the parade's venue and I observed a group of three girls decked out in the highest of fashion - expensive super lush handbags and shoes, hair puffed and locked and curled and maximised to birds' nests proportions, and big accessories like earrings that would make your ear lobes stretch after one wearing...

I looked at these girls and I call them girls because after looking at them for a few minutes I realised they weren't 40 years old which I initially thought they were because of the overladen fashion items. At closer look they they were in their early twenties - just acting like they were 40. It upset me. They seemed to be drowning in the wrong image - like they'd taken all the Hollywood bullshit of our times and tried to espouse some luxurious high-quality image of being special through money, special through designer clothing, special through being able to afford what most can't...They haven't learned that we are all special for what is inside of us and then how we use that on the outside to help others, to shine, to beam radiance and love.

The girls were vague...they had nothing else to show at this stage in their life but their parade of clothing items. It made me think a little more about what clothing and fashion is really meant for. I do love fashion. I do love dressing up. I love beautifying myself. But if that was to overtake me as an obsession then I would lose the deeper aspects of myself and that's frightening. I don't live to dress alone...I live for other things...words, poetry, song, dance, expression, love, sharing, connecting, helping, being my full spirit...

Are we at risk of creating a generation of women wrapped up in fashion ideals that don't know how to connect with their spirit, their soul, their true self?

True beauty comes all in forms...from women in poverty stricken countries who will still make attempts to adorn themselves or from women who don't buy designer clothing but are happy with discount items from department stores or from women who haven't updated their wardrobe in many years...We are not our clothes! As women we need to get real with image versus truth.

Root cover-ups

August 3rd 2008 03:17
If you lighten your hair, you would’ve noticed that after about 4-5 weeks the darker roots become more noticeable and begin to bother you. However, going to the hair salon is expensive so I tend to get my roots redone every 6-7 weeks. This probably saves me a good few hundred dollars in a year since any one visit can cost about $200.

I get extended wear between salon visits by using a couple of tricks to cover up the darkness of the roots during the last couple of weeks. My bag of tricks include:

· Dusting face powder over the roots – any old cheap face powder will do. Loose or pressed powder works the same just don’t go using your expensive Chanel powder compact as then you may as well be going to the salon more often

· Head bands and ties – it’s the perfect excuse to wear something you might normally not wear. There are lots of great styles out there – from fabric ones to the plastic types. The wider the head band the more it covers. The 50’s style black plastic head band is especially striking on blonde hair teamed with red lipstick and lots of black mascara.

· Puff up and put volume in the hair near the roots – I find that when your hair is bouncy and volumised around the roots, it takes the focus away from the roots and puts it on the volume of hair surrounding them. Soft, bouncy curls or the wavy hair look is also good for distracting attention from the roots. The ironed straight hair look tends to put emphasis on your roots.

Rescuing paper thin eye skin

July 22nd 2008 09:35
When you have skin around the eye area that’s paper thin, it’s hard to get it looking rested and smooth especially in winter and if you work in air conditioned environments. Air conditioners really dry this part of my face to the point where it feels tight and uncomfortable so I’ve resorted to moisturising it throughout the day at least once.

You may be thinking this is impractical if you’re wearing make-up or concealer on your eyes. I thought that too until I tried. Just before I head for my lunch break I dab some eye cream around the top part of my cheeks and around the eye on top of any concealer or blush I may have on – and the cream does go in and it doesn’t smudge the make-up. The trick is to dab though not rub or force in - just dab and your thirsty skin will do the rest by sucking it up itself

Classic styles get big compliments

July 21st 2008 10:52
I wore a satin polka-dot halter-neck Marilynesque dress on the weekend for a friend’s birthday and I ended up getting some big compliments from men and women.

(Sorry I don 't have a full-length pic of me in the dress

The rules of good undies

June 8th 2008 06:48
The shrewd woman knows that the right underpants can either make or break an outfit. If undies are too tight or not the right shape for your body, you get bulges from your belly, hips, thighs and bottom which makes your skirts and outer pants look as if they are battling with an undulating landscape.

If undies are too loose, they ride up or sag or crumple up to make waves under your outfits. The wrong undies do not streamline your figure. The right undies do

No more trying on undies!

May 23rd 2008 06:53
I spent $60 on lace knickers, brought them home, tried them on and they were NOT for me! Don't you hate it when you try on underwear that just pushes your thighs out in a way they shouldn't be pushed out or cuts into your bottom like a knife through a pancake. That's why I like to try them and make sure I have the right fit.

Well it seems Myer no loner accepts returns or exchanges on underwear. There are no signs in the store so how was I to know when I went to get a refund on my dud underwear that their store policy had changed. To cut a long story short, the shop assistant took pity on me and decided to refund my money because she believed me when I said I was unaware of the new policy

Patent yourself

May 18th 2008 09:13
Patent leather and vinyl is around in good measure for winter. It's such a striking look that I will be sure to buy a few "patent" somethings this year.

As a start, I couldn't resist this burgundy handbag that has a semi-patent finish. The traditional patent is glossier but I like the muted patents too. There are a lot of different patent looks to choose from in the stores - some are rich and shiny, others have a scratchy and crinkly finish

I know exactly what you mean...men can be lazy when it comes to clothes. It's so nice to see a man wear stylish clothing not just the same old jeans and t-shirt look. I'm not sure what makes them think they don't have to impress...because we look at them just as much as they look at us and we need something nice to look at too!!!

I would love farmers to get more money from the prices I pay for natural produce...because they are the ones that do the hard work which we city folk wouldn't be able to cope with for one week! We complain about our jobs and our stresses but without the farmers, we would die from hunger!

on Lindt Cafe in Sydney

The Lindt cafe is chocolate heaven for me. The hot chocolate is not as good as the drinking chocolate in Paris but the cakes and chocs are divine.

I recently had a milk hot chocolate at Max Brenner and it was awful. Making my ownn hot choc at home with Cadbury's drinking chocolate is a thousand times better. I'm turned of going to Max Brenner ever again...

I like your advice in this post...it's practical...and sometimes we need to be practical in the most impractical of situations like love.
