LEVEL UP- The Rules

May 31st 2011 03:38
Level Up is a reasonably simple game that anyone can play. The goal of the game is to grow in personal responsibility, and achieve your large goals, one small step at a time. It also can be used to monitor how you spend your time throughout your days, and how much productivity you put towards leveling up your favorite character, You.

The game can be played as a solo game, or with one or more partners. The game is not intended to be a competition, but can be played as such if this motivates all parties involved.

The game is played starting at the level one achievements, and accomplishing them until you've reached enough points to LEVEL UP. This unlocks harder, higher caliber, achievements worth more XP (experience points). As time passes, you start to grow as a person, and open your world up to the higher vibrational situations we all hope for. Not only will you be improving your life, and yourself, but you'll also always have a clean house, good abs, flowing creativity, etc. If you want to make like as much fun as it really is, this is the game for you!

Paper/Digital Download Version-

If you've purchased a paper, or digital download version of Level Up, the following will outline the general rules for your version.

The game can be played using some sort of indication that a quest has been achieved. When I first developed this game for myself and my girlfriend, we actually used stickers to mark our achievements. But even a simple mark of a pen will do. On the computer, any symbol # * @, can be used to mark a completed quest.

Every day, at the end of the day, you tally up your score, and write it down. Keeping track of your high score for a day, or a week, is a great way to motivate yourself to put YOU first, on a regular basis. I've found determining rewards for reaching each new level helps motivate you to continue. We would take the other person out for dinner if they leveled up in a category, and reaching Master Level in anything called for a glorious celebration. Whatever works for you, is the best route to go.

This is NOT a competition with another person, this is a challenge to yourself. A challenge to turn you from a sad scared n00b, into a master of your reality. Follow this game for a year, and your life will never be better, or move forward as quickly!

IPhone/ Android App-

The rules are eerily similar to the paper/digital rules, but we can go over the differences at least.

With the app version, you simply find the quest you've just achieved, and press the button. The app will save what time, and how many points were achieved. At any point, you may check your score for the day, the week, the month, etc. When you reach a new level, the app will notify you, and unlock a whole new series of quests for you to enjoy.

Eventually, there will be a high score page on this site, but because this is a personal responsibility game, comparing your score to your friends is more about personal honesty and integrity, than anything.

So enjoy the game, and please excuse the mess as we build this into a fun system to help all of us treat ourselves, and the world, in a better way!

Light and love,
Nathaniel Bartling
