Im Back with Numbers

I know, Iknow you are all sitting there, thanking god that the teal writing man is back with more news and reviews occasionally some questions about drugs, or perhaps noone is thinking that at all, but i am back and how good it is. Okay lets take it slow. No.1 News This is probably a bigger event in the movie world than if Vin Diesel took on the roc, but then they ended up making out, Margaret Pomeranz of movie show fame, did something completely put of character, usually it is, wow this is the greatest movie I have ever seen, I award it one and a half stars, but in an amazing turn on Monday she awarded "The Road to Guantanamo" 5 Stars!!! I know amazing but true. In other news, apparently this years oscar nominations could be much more popular than last years, being as films such as crash were made out to be well below par in the stakes of popularity and excellence. Last years movies ominated for best picture were among the least viewed of any titles in history, the highest earner being brokeback mountain at only 84 million while Crash earnt a measly 53 million, the lowest of any film to win best picture for around 20 yrs. The highest earning movies of all time are apparently going to be shaken with the release of spiderman 3 coming out, an estimated billion dollars is expected which is expected to raise the franchise closer to that of the calibre Lord of the rings has created. Among the most succesful franchises of all time, Harry Potter, Spiderman, The Lord of the Rings and Shrek, with the highest grossing directors, coming in to top fifties are Peter Jackson, Steven Spielberg and James Cameron, as well as Sam Raimi
Sam Raimi, another money machine, who directed horror films
and the WaCHOWSKI BROTHERS making an effort.
Peter Jackson, a walking goldmine
Stay tuned for a review of flags of our fathers tomorrow.

How Do We Feel About Cannabis

September 7th 2006 04:11
Pot is it so bad?
Naturally grown marijuana bush
Now before any conclusions are reached from this post (once again straying from movies) I am wondering how others on the forum might feel about the use of illicit substances, namely cannabis, weed, pot, wacky tobaccy or whatever you may call it. I am facing a part of my life when i am interested in such things, I don't think I would ever do anything injected or snorted, nor smoking come to thinnk of it, but I have wondered about the effects of marijuana within foods. It has been proven that the effects of SMOKING pot can permenantly screw your head because of something that happens whilst burning, as well as it being one of the most virulent forms of cancer being caused by smoking, but to eat hash brownies or cookies or whatever it may be, generally has no such effect, whilst retaining the short term head trippiness and the euphoric effect. Has anyone tried this and do you have any views from both sides of the fence (pot smoking and eating). Because as far as i know there is no terrible effect from eaing it. Just interesting, that what has been villified so much may actually be a normallly harmless naturally made high

Cry_Wolf
Okay I wanna see who is responsible, you've got some splainin to do!!! Anyhoo I don't know if anyone will read this and care at all but I have not been able to write for ages due to my HSC trials being on top of me, howeveran excellent movie caught my eye in the shop recently. The lovechild of an American short film competition to win a grant to make the movie and this fledgeling production company "ROGUE Pictures" Cry_Wolf revolves around a technologically efficient group of students who decide to spice up a game of lying to encompass the hole school, an attempt to make a serial killer up out of thin air to scare everyone silly, the plan seemingly backires when one of their friends goes missing in peculiar circumstances. There appears to be copycat murders taking place. This seems like your generic thriller movie, however it is so much more, the twists and turns are truly surprising, but without giving something away I can't tell you anymore, anyone else who may have seen it I would be very interested in what you have to say. I know th use of technology (instant messaging and crazy cellphones) is a great motif of the film adding to the suspense brought about by the fact that complete anonymity is well within the reach of anyone wishing to use the internet in that way. A boring storyline is in fact really well crafted and the director is masterful in his use of camera techniques, split screen fade-outs and the mixing of text and image to create the look of a book, which is what they are making within the movie, a false murderer.
Amazing Use of Film Techniques
Some excellent performances, memorably by Bon Jovi, showing that the man truly hastoo much talent and money for any one man ad some newcomers are very good as well, Jared Padalecki actually does okay in the part of the goofball jock whilst the true standout is "Dodger" in the film Lindy Booth, where englishman Julian Morrisalso does extremely well in what I think is his first big role

SUPERMAN RETURNS

July 26th 2006 00:58
Reeve
as the original
Superman
Makes a triumphant return
Okey Dokes, I would just like to start this post by saying I haver been in eager anticipation of this movie for two years and I am a huge fan of the blue and red man, but to be quite honest with you, this movie was a brutal let down, really. I loved the original movies (not number three, lets pretend that was never made) and Cristopher Reeve brought such fun and power to the role. I would prefer to think of a Superman movie as a lovely bit of escapism where we get to see baddies beaten up.....bad news awaits those of you of similar thinking. Newcomer Brandon Routh is extremely likeable as the caped crusader and Kate Bosworth is lovely as Lois Lane and shows that she does have the talent to hold up a blockbuster, however I tend to think the script was, although quite well developed in many parts, it let itself lag heavily in others and the audience was left longing for a damsel in distress to get saved. I don't want to focus entirely on the film as a disappointment because I would hate to think that my great expectations were what made it such a let down. Bryan Singer is a masterful director at times and then at others he seems to forget what is going on as we are left wanting something to sink our teeth into, but the beginning scenes with supermans landing back on earth and the plane rescue are very exciting, the ending is hard to fault as Superman makes a triumphant Return to power lifting an entire island out of the sea, he then falls to earth, but the best scenes in the movie are those of Superman getting help from the people, much like Spiderman two, it shows how much the people truly care for him, yet they also feel completely powerless when they realise they cant operate on him because of his invulnerability, a touching and tense scene that lets the script really shine. The movie is quite beautiful at times and shows the power that Singer wields in his mighty camera

Next- The Ringer

June 15th 2006 23:18
THE RINGER
Johnny Knoxvile is a nice guy
This is in addition to the post on the maratho, which was indeed far too short and not quite sweet enough, the other week I worked at a local show where i was a stockboy for the showbag area, and i have to say that although this movie is fun and entertaining in areas, the fact that the audience derived most of their laughs from simply seeing actual retarded people made me sick to the point where i would have actually preffered to go back to the carnies i was working for despite the fact that they called me names and pronounced "ask" "axe" through no conceivably interesting reason except "thats how you say it". In addition it annoyed the hell out of me that a Johnny Knoxville movie actually took a step back from going to far with something, in that it didn't go far enough. However I am glad that I managed to sneak into this film with two friends when we had paid for the other marathon, I didn't feel guilty about the whole thing though because we had actually wanted to see the ringer marathon but been denied because of it being sold out, which it turns out IT WASN'T!! The only other choice was "eight below" and i didn't think i could stand to watch 90 minutes of Paul Walker growling in his artificially deepened voice, about a bunch of dogs who die at the end. Plus the fact that one particular character falls down an ice hole twice in similar circumstances, put me off my dinner. Althugh back to "The Ringer" it turns out Johnny Knoxville plays a nice guy and is actually highly likeable, it definitely made me a fan so i suppose its work here is done.

Scary Movie 4, The Ringer and Cars

June 13th 2006 23:32
Thats right i saw a movie marathon on sunday night and got home at 5.30am quite a night out but it was good coz my friends shared my enthusiasm for sleep and nothing happened on the Monday, i really hate missing out. Anyway quick reviews lets start at the first movie we saw-Cars
CARS
Disney Stock Went Down after the premiere
Okay to say the most this movie was a sometimes amusing distraction however overall lowers my faith in the CG genre, Overall there were some funny parts but like many good disney films they also overloed it with schmaltz, Owen Wilson is good and so is while Tony Shalhoub and Paul Newmans voice talents are an entertainning distraction from the moralistic storyline, also i think Kudos for some of the social references such as the souped up wnak mobile with glowing lights and nitrous injected fuel lines, worth watching if you are bored and with kids

The Omen

June 7th 2006 01:10
Hi all, and anyone who is listening, I would just like to say i wish i ahd seen the Omen yestreday but i ran out of money, and instead decided to watch the Simpsons, followed by the OC, in which I cried, because i realised how bad that show is and wept for my immortal soul for watching it, however brief a time. However if i was ever going to see it I think yesterday would have been the day, because ooooh!! Devil Day 6/6/06, oh my god once in a lifetime thing. Mainly i just wanted to see the movie and laugh at really scary parts just to break the atmosphere, what the hell is the deal with remaking horror movies and /or giving them shoddy sequels. The old ones were good why ruin them? Anyway i wish i could go back to yesterday and watch the omen so i could tell you all how it affected my time in the house but all ican say is that the simosons was quite funny last night.

on Why enjoying sex with men doesn't make you homosexual

September 26th 2006 03:28
Woah, this is another very long post, i literally had to camp out with a sleeping bag and roasting marshmallows, just to finish it! But I am finally there, i think that the thread has deviated slightly from its original meaning somewhat in that it has become about langiage more than concepts. If i may put my comments in (writing without the use of big words) I believe that the idea of homosexuality derives from a need for people to both lable and be labelled, it helps them define themselves, i don't necessarily even believ that there is anything that makes you homosexual, except thebiological differences of a straight man and a gay one, having male to male sex doesnt make you gay, it means you had "gay sex" the same as when you have straight sex it doesn't make you straight. If you have sex with a watermelon, it doesn.t make you also a watermelon, nor does only having sex with guys make you homosexual, they are merely common practices of similar people... I think, lol anyway cool, love your work adrien, what do you do for a dayjob? namely one paying more than 100,000 posts=$10 lol

I definitely think that like anything, it is safest not to do it and i am definitely not saying you should take drugs, no way I just think that if you do do it, have a plan before hand to moderate yourself, and only do so if you are safe and in the company of friends or family, never do anything to excess
