In my previous post, I discussed the significant contributions of Russell Batiste and his Beat Batiste family. While this blog is mainly dedicated to men of the stick, I must comment on a musician, a guitarist, who thinks like a drummer with his pick. That would be Leo Nocentelli, one of the finest guitarists, musicians and writers in the world today. And, like The Batiste Brothers, he hails from the great music city, New Orleans.
Leo's contributions to traditional and modern funk and R&B, are endless. He wrote a number of hits for one of New Orleans' finest bands, The Meters. His approach to guitar is highly rhythmic and at the same time, he can whip out one heck of a struttin' solo. In fact, Russell Batiste and family often play with Nocentelli, an amazing auditory event, no doubt.
I could go on for stanzas about Leo, but what I suggest is visit his web site (www.nocentelli.com) and get ready to experience one of the most audacious examples of great rhythm and blues. Whether you're a drummer, guitarist, whatever, I think you'll be musically surprised.
God Bless You Leo!
