Lenten traditions
In this part of the world, more particularly, this part of Asia, where majority of the people are Catholic, we have a lot of old, conventional lenten traditions especially in more rural areas.
We have nightly reading of the Passions of Christ, processions lead by the churches with different images of Christ depending on the day of the week as well as the virgin Mary and Mary Magdalene, etc. Some people choose to flagellate themselves, may sound gross bu to most of us who grew up in the rural areas, it's a yearly thing. We even have some being crucified live as part of their penitents -- that I still cannot take.
I know not everyone's catholic but this religion comprises a big bulk of the world, different traditions have become modernized in some parts of the world while others have maintained them passing them on from one religion to the other...
What's going on in your part of the world this lenten season --- regardless of your religion, I'm pretty sure something catholic is still happening in your area.
See you in Easter!
