Fact: Islands

January 30th 2007 00:45
Millions of islands dot the world's oceans. Islands may occur in oceans, seas, lakes, or rivers, and may be very, very small outcroppings or huge land masses such as Greenland.

An island is defined as an area of land surrounded by water; strictly speaking, the continents are islands, but they are not usually referred to as such. Islands may be created when the sea rises, when land sinks, or when volcanoes on the ocean floor emerge above water

Have you said Thank You?

January 29th 2007 02:08
This is a beautiful piece I received from my friend via Internet today. After reading it, I realised that our parents can do so much for us, but have we done anything for them yet? Have we seen their childlike smile that is so precious in God's eyes?

I hope everyone will enjoy reading this beautiful article

Fact: Magic 8-Ball

January 23rd 2007 06:00

The Magic 8-Ball, invented in 1946 by Abe Bookman of the Alabe Toy Company, is a novelty version of the crystal ball. It is a hard black plastic sphere, the size of a small grapefruit, which reveals answers to life's most perplexing issues when it is turned upside-down. The answers are on a white plastic die made in the shape of an icosahedron and floating in a blue liquid. Of the twenty possible answers, ten are positive, five negative, and five neutral. The name of the novelty comes from its resemblance to the ball used in pool and billiards.

Fact: Jigsaw Puzzle

January 22nd 2007 04:54

Jigsaw puzzles got their start in 18th-century England as an educational tool to teach geography. Mapmakers pasted maps onto wood and cut them into small pieces. The use of popular pictures for jigsaw puzzles began in the 1860s, and the puzzles grew in popularity in the early 1900s. During the 1930s, jigsaw puzzles began to be mass-produced from die-cut cardboard, their popularity soaring as they became an inexpensive and reusable form of entertainment during the Depression. The part that sticks out of a puzzle piece is called the "nub," which fits into a "void" in another piece to create a "lock."

Fact: Potato Chips

January 21st 2007 07:02

The potato chip has an interesting history. Potato chips originated at the Moon Lake Lodge in Saratoga Springs, New York in 1853 and were known as Saratoga chips. George Crum, a Native American chef working at the Moon Lake Lodge, became frustrated with a diner who kept sending back the French fries complaining they were too thick. To get back at the diner, Crum decided to slice the fries extremely thin and fry them crisp so that the diner could not use a fork to eat them. The plan backfired when the diner thought they were the best thing he had ever tasted. Other diners began to request the new snack, and the popularity of potato chips has continued ever since. Potato chips have become America's favorite snack food.

Fact: Harriet the Tortoise

January 8th 2007 12:00

Harriet the Tortoise is one of the world's oldest (recorded) living animals. DNA testing performed on the giant Galapagos tortoise suggested that she was born around 1830. She died in 2006 at the Australia Zoo at the ripe old of age of 176. It is believed that in 1835, Harriet belonged to Charles Darwin and was studied by him, leading to his theories of evolution and natural selection. Harriet's original name was Harry, as she was mistakenly thought to be a male for more than 100 years

I have no grace today

January 5th 2007 06:24
Looking at the wallet, which only contains 3 – 4 dollars, I sighed. I have been telling myself everyday that it’s going to be ok, even though I only have about 60 dollars to spend until the end of the month when I decided to push it all out and settle as much credit bills as possible. Well, it’s still a long way to go, but I know if I stay sober enough I can still get it through. But the 60 dollars in two respective banks (30 dollars each) can’t be reached through ATM card at the moment, and as I struggled to remind myself to bring the bankbook for lunch, and counting the pathetic 3 dollars in the wallet (just to be sure), an irritating voice popped.

“There’s a lot of money you’ve got there

1. Take a nap. Limit it, however, to 30 minutes or less; longer naps can make you feel groggy and interfere with a good night’s sleep when the sun sets
