Fact: Stars

November 27th 2006 08:15
There are more stars than any other object in the universe. Each is a spinning ball of hot, luminous gas. Most are composed mainly of hydrogen and helium. As these gases are converted to heaver elements, energy is produced. A star has a life cycle of billions of years; its mass dictates how it will develop and die.

Fact: outer space radio message

November 25th 2006 08:15
In 1974, a radio communication was transmitted toward a cluster of stars called M13 or Messier 13 (The Hercules Globular Cluster), approximately 25,000 light years away in the constellation Hercules, to explore the possibility of extraterrestrial intelligent life.

The digital message was beamed from a radio telescope at the Arecibo Observatory in Puerto Rico and contained some very basic information about the human race. It included representations of the fundamental chemicals of life, the formula for DNA, a crude diagram of our solar system, and simple pictures of a human being and the Arecibo telescope.

Fact: Seasons

November 23rd 2006 08:15
As the earth orbits the sun, the temperatures and weather conditions change. Spring, Summer, Fall (autumn), and Winter come because the earth is tilted toward the sun for part of the year and away from the sun for the rest of the year.

The seasons north of the equator are the opposite of the seasons south of the equator. The farther you are from the equator, the more extreme are the differences between the seasons

Recently I went to check out the new apartment rented by my friend, who was wondering whether I would like to move in and share some rental expenses with her. When I arrived there, it was rather small, and doesn’t have the size of the room that I am currently renting, which is situated at the old link house nearer to where I am working now.

Later I have another friend who recently moved to a new city in Germany went through the same process of finding his own small apartment and the rental cost more than what I am paying (if we look in the sense for an apple to an apple). Yet the conveniences like 10 minutes walk to his office was good enough to convince anyone that it was a better deal than to drive to work

Yo, Banks! What ‘ya trying to do?

November 16th 2006 07:58
Ah, the weekends, people running around shopping and dating at department stores, or tackling the little mischief at home was the norm city life of Kuala Lumpur these days; and here I am, doing my weekend laundry with my blessed little washing machine and flipping through an outdated newspaper when I suddenly stopped at almost every page of colourful advertisements from credit card banks, with big striking labels and catchy words, never failing to attract any young readers or credit card holder’s eyes.

Beware of free money emails

November 16th 2006 07:50
Recently I have read from the Writers Forum that certain emails were spamming over writers’ mailbox. Some offered a job to post on some unknown BLOGs, some even offered you to inherit some really nice fortune to a deceased millionaire.

One of the writers did warn us about such posts are some money laundering scams, and some worse, they want to trick you into paying your own money

Fact: The Tongue

November 14th 2006 09:30

Your tongue can detect only four basic tastes: sweet, salty, sour, and bitter. The tongue is divided into different taste areas, each containing taste buds that are sensitive to one of these tastes. There are over 10,000 microscopic taste buds on the tongue and these are located on or between tiny projections called papillae. Each taste bud contains a cluster of taste cells. When food is chewed, chemicals dissolve in saliva and go into the pores. The chemicals stimulate taste hairs and these send impulses along nerve fibers to the brain's taste areas where the impulses are interpreted. The life span of a taste bud is only 7-14 days.

Looking Through God’s Eyes

November 13th 2006 07:39
On my previous post “Thou shall not judge others” I’ve mentioned that we always tend to see on others’ faults to lift up our petty life. Yesterday when I checked my mails I came across this nice article that speaks about seeing through “God’s eyes”, which tells a very touching story about how a daughter sees her physically impaired father. This article not only touches your heart, but also reminded all of us that we not only see other’s faults to uplift ourselves, we also blame on others’ faults whenever we face obstacles or things that we do not like.

Though it’s ironic but it is true. It is always easier to blame our mishaps on others’ faults. This also shows that we tend to run away from situations rather than overcoming them. I hope that through this article we tend to see things, situations and people out of the box, rather than only to our conveniences

Fact: S.O.S

November 6th 2006 08:00
The "SOS" (...---...) distress signal was adopted at the Second International Radio Telegraphic Conference in Berlin, Germany in 1906.

According to the 1918 Marconi Yearbook of Wireless Telegraphy and Telephony, "This signal [SOS] was adopted simply on account of its easy radiation and its unmistakable character. There is no special signification in the letters themselves, and it is entirely incorrect to put full stops between them

“Thou shall not judge others”

November 6th 2006 01:18
Recently I was in a discussion about the Bible and what this faith is all about, and I did give my testimony that I did judge on other Christians years before when I did not like that idea when one person goes to church for their “little agenda”.

I was questioning: What determines a Christian? Was it all the love words and kindness shown to people? Or the declaration that he / she believes in Jesus? Yet at that moment seeing those who “took advantage for themselves” was the only thing I could see from Christians

Fact: Tennis

November 6th 2006 00:05

Tennis is a game played between either two players ("Singles") or two teams of two players ("Doubles"). Players use a stringed racquet to strike a hollow rubber ball covered with felt over a net into the opponent's court. In some places tennis is still called lawn tennis to distinguish it from real tennis (also known as royal tennis or court tennis), an older form of the game that originated in France in the Middle Ages and is played indoors on a very different court. Originating in England in the late 19th century, lawn tennis spread first throughout the English-speaking world, particularly among the upper classes. Tennis is now an Olympic sport and is played at all levels of society, by all ages, and in many countries around the world. Except for the adoption of the tie-breaker in the 1970s, its rules have remained remarkably unchanged since the 1890s

How many email accounts do you have?

November 3rd 2006 08:40
Referring from the last post, I was talking about spam mails. And this post talks about how many emails could we carry on to identify our existence in the Internet…

Previously when my business partner and me tried to form an Internet company, we created our own domain and we also named our company. And one of the queer things we do was to check as many free web mails we could find and take hold on that particular username of most free email extensions, “locking” the username prior to ours

Spam mails! Don’t you hate them?

November 3rd 2006 08:24
Spam mails! Argh….! I just hate them! They will come as they please and flood your entire mailbox with worthless “Free Advertisement”. I mean, how many “Viagra” advertisements do you need? None? Oh, how about weight lost pills, or penis enlargement lotion, and if you are satisfied with your physical outlook, how about a cheap Rolex to make you look better?

These are the daily spam mails I get and sometimes, I do wonder where they come from. Probably from bots surfing around looking for email address, or perhaps spyware that installed into your PC while you were surfing, reading through every single email address you have in your Outlook (or Thunderbird or Eudora – etc). Basically, they just want to flood your PC until you just get sick and tired of it, yet those few keywords like “Viagra” or “Rolex” remains in your mind like a broken recorder

Move On or Move Forward?

November 3rd 2006 05:45
Sometime when you talk among your friends or when you are reading a book, you tend to come to the words like “moved on” or “moved forward” in many situations; and the most popular used these days are always referring to relationships. Like “move on, this relationship really sucks to you”.

When I was once questioned with my relationship with my partner, I was always given the comment of “your relationship is stagnant. You need to move on” or “it is not right for you to have such stagnant relationship. Relationship needs constant communication and in contact. You need to move forward on this or else you’d just get stuck and this is not healthy

The Bamboo plant is a member of the grass family, which has been used for years to make houses, furniture, boats, piping, baskets, and musical instruments. The plant looks like a tree and its most striking feature is that most produce seeds only once in their lifetime -- but a bamboo plant can live for more than 100 years. In 1990, scientists announced that they are developing a way of producing bamboo flowers more rapidly, which may be very important to its cultivation

Fact: Hockey mask

November 2nd 2006 08:26

Hockey goaltender Jacques "Jake the Snake" Plante is credited with bringing the modern-day hockey mask to the NHL in 1959. Some goaltenders wore leather-type masks previously, but the idea never caught on. Over the course of his career, Plante received several injuries caused by being hit in the face with a puck. In a game against the New York Rangers in 1959, Plante was hit in the face with a puck and required stitches. He came out of the locker room wearing a fiberglass mask - thus ushering in the era of the goaltender's hockey mask as everyday equipment.

Fact: Bald Eagle

November 1st 2006 00:05

The bald eagle is a large North American bird of the forest which catches most of its food victims live -- including ducks, gulls, seabirds, fish from lakes or seas, and salmon from rivers. Bald eagles, which belong to the raptor family, also challenge ospreys, forcing them to abandon their catch. The bald eagle has been a symbol of power and courage and a symbol of the United States. Many birds of prey are becoming endangered species because pesticides poison their food or eggs, some are hunted, and others are losing their natural habitats. The nest of an eagle is called a aerie and it is either high in a tree or on a high rocky ledge. Female bald eagles are larger than males
