I have been a fan of Johnny Depp for as long as i can remember. I always thought he was a good actor, but in the past few years it has dawned on me just how amazing he is. There is no limit to who he can play, he takes a role and brings the character to life. And as for imitating real people, it's uncanny how well he can take on their persona and actually become them. Even in films that i have hated, he has made the film worth watching (i'm saying this about From Hell).
The film that has me writing this blog is Ed Wood.
I own some of Ed Wood's films and have enjoyed them immensely for their campish, so bad it's great qualities. I felt pangs of dread and guilt after seeing Ed Wood.
Depp shows Ed to be a struggling film-maker, aspiring to an unachievable dream, but never giving up. The dedication he had to his films was amazing, the lengths to which he went to ensure they were made. I love the fact he was strong enough to wear women's clothes out in public, that would have taken guts, especially back then.
I will never watch plan 9 in the same way again. That goes double for the first scene with Bela Lugosi, it is no longer unnecessary to me, it was Ed Woods way of paying a final tribute.
As usual Tim Burton is genius in every aspect of the film's direction and production. Sarah Jessica Parker was actually really good too.
I know this is a poorly written piece, but i needed to get something down to express how this film touched me. I don't know if that was the intention, but it really made me feel something genuine. Johnny Depp's portrayal was really moving, and i have to give a HUGE kudos to Martin Landau. He actaualy had me convinced that Bela Lugosi was in this film. But he's dead, right?
My boyfriend and I went to the cinemas today and decided to see the box, starring Cameron Diaz and James Marsden. I can see the moment clearly: the lights went down and the screen roared to life to reveal the beginning of the movie...
One hundred and fifteen minutes later I had that nauseous, suffocated feeling you get when you've been in an overly long meeting or lecture. I don't know where to begin with this one, I really don't. I can't decide what was worse: the acting, the plot holes or the fact that this was a legitimate attempt at film making.
I'll start with the acting, this one is easy. It's fair enough to say anyone would have had a hard time making this script work, seeing as it is so awful and all, but the casting was all wrong and just added insult to this severely injured wreck. Cameron Diaz is great when she is playing the ditzy blonde character. Her attempts to be a teacher/mother/southerner however are laughable and cringe worthy. James Marsden is out of his league in this film, he should stick to playing princes and pretty boy photographers and stop attempting to be a serious actor(watch this space, he's set to star in a remake of straw dogs *cringe*).
Ok the plot holes, there are as many of those as there are ridiculous lines and cliched over dramatics. Ask me what the film was actually about, and I honestly couldn't tell you. There was a man with half his face missing, a button, a mangled foot, some jerk who makes fun of the mangled foot, and then a whole lot of retardation. I can't be effed trying to explain the rest, and I don't think anyone involved with the film's production would have the ability.
It really is a shame to see that Richard Kelly suffered brain damage after he made Donny Darko. I hope that one day his brain starts functioning again.
Ok after research I found said brain damage was non-existent. That was the only logical conclusion I could think of, I didn't see the possibility of someone making a film like this with a fully functioning mind.
Go see this film to find out what I mean. On second thought, don't see this movie. EVER.

What to say about this book. I honestly don't know where to start; did I like it? Didn't I? I really cannot be sure.
The day before I began to read this book I finished Nick Cave's other offering entitled "And the ass saw the angel". It was a dirty, bleeding grimy book- and one of the most brilliantly written I have had the pleasure to read. I would describe the book as gruesomely beautiful, tragic and insightful. Oh, and nightmarish as hell

I recently posted this on the Empire online site as a way of venting the anger i had at good reviews being given to bad films. The replies have been mixed, one person had a cry about me criticising Requiem for a dream and se7en in the same post. I felt i needed to because both of these films were awful. And of course the is the obligatory one about signs again because enough bad things cant be said about that film. Hope you enjoy this rant, i had fun writing it.

I have noticed that alot of people frequent this page, at last count i had 217 hits in one day. That to me is pretty impressive. I would not know that anyone has visited this page though because no one has left any comments!! Please, if you read my blog and have any kind of a reaction to it can you leave a comment for me, just to know how my writing is being recieved... thanks alot guys, hope you enjoy my stuff, alot more coming really soon.
Sean Penn is one of only a handful of actors who continues to surprise me in a good way. He is at a point in his career where other actors careers have begun to wane (think tom hanks's career from 2002-present, with the exception of charlie wilsons war). Milk is an absolutely amazing film about the beginning of gay activism in America, led by the courageous Harvey Milk.
Before watching this film, i wasn't actually sure what it was about; i had heard all of the buzz surrounding it so i decided it must be worth watching. After the film finished and after i had stopped crying i felt truly lucky to live in these modern times. Yes, there are wars, economic crisis etc. but these are things which have always been around; atleast we don't have the added problems of bigotry which was so rampant during the 60's and 70's. This film is sure to be a classic which teaches us to remember the struggles and conflicts in the past

I want to preface this with something that really annoys me, and to a degree scares me. Most people I know could not care less about the important films of the past, most dubbing anything black and white as boring and pointless. Why would movie studios and film production companies spend millions of dollars and hundreds of hours painstakingly restoring these films and putting them on DVD if they weren’t ‘classics’ in every sense of the word? This annoys me because people refuse to open their minds and see what is out there, what the films of the past can teach us. The thing that scares me is the people my age in twenty years or so will be the heads of these film studios and film production companies. What then? In place of the musical singin’ in the rain, will it be step up 2: the streets? And will some like it hot be replaced by sorority girls?
I really want people to think about what I’m saying; these classic films deserve our attention. Just because they may not be in colour, or even have sound, this does not mean you won’t be moved or entertained any less. I have taken to changing a few people’s minds on the subject, opening them up to classics (my boyfriend watched the Humphrey Bogart film ‘the big sleep’ with me and quite enjoyed it

It's 11:43pm right now, not that late i know, except for the fact i've been working all day only to come home and study for my final two uni exams, and also realise i'm getting sick. This type of day puts me in the mood where i think about things that really suck. I thought about the movie signs 5 times today.

Hi and welcome to my blog,
I guess this is where I’m supposed to give a brief description of what this blog will be about....I can’t really say, there isn’t a defined topic which will be discussed here. I guess you could categorise it as rants about pop culture both past and present blended in with whatever thoughts are being processed through my brain at the same time. I
