An email between a now deceased person (virtually erased, not actually dead) and myself has made me realise a couple of things.

First of all...that I'm not allowed his pink laptop just yet (since he's not actually deceased...he's just been virtually canned)...

(That's the real kicker, right there. Not getting that laptop)

And that secondly, and most importantly, I've realised I'm not Ally from The Notebook...

(Okay, I am, but for this post, just humour me)

... I'm actually Stephanie from Grease 2, like I intially longed to be.

I find myself very alarmingly like her today:

Just when I found you, I lost you...I found myself murmuring to our recently erased (Homer Joyce, for you that haven't cottoned on yet...I know. Trying to be subtle. Apparantly just coming out and saying things these days is very bad, and is not allowed)...

No ketchup!!...I found myself screaming at the girl down at the local burger store (will not name fast food joints...I'm suddenly all-too aware of repurcussions for things I say, or may not say)...

All male periscopes down!!...I found myself saying, in an imitation of how I should act...(males are not allowed erections. Oh, no. That is very bad...

What am I supposed to do with all my romantic heroes in my books??? If your hero permanently has his periscope down, the heroine would send him to a doctor...perhaps Dr Bloggs is available??)

Get bent!...I found myself shouting at my laptop in response to some things said on Orble today...

Oh, wait. That was Mindy from The Simpsons. Perhaps I'm just Michelle Phieffer all round (I wish).

And, of course, there's that little thing Stephanie says (or sings) that I live by:

Think Pink!

(But apparantly pinkness is waaay too sexy for some. I have no idea why. I thought Pink was all about sensuality...and a bit of innocence mixed in)

I may have missed the point entirely here (Stef is not known for her intelligence, after all. Just her sauciness)...

But this is my farewell to Homer Joyce (subtle, hey??). May he Rest In Peace.

And give me your damn laptop!

Sometimes I watch movies, and fall in love with movies, because of certain character traits or storylines...

And some come to alarmingly represent, or seem to represent, who I am. Inside.

(Deep inside, under all that pink goo)

I've thought about this long and hard (you wouldn't think I'd have this much time on my hands, would you??)...and there's some I'd like to say represent me.

Michelle's Phieffer's character in Grease 2...she's hot, she wears a lot of pink, she's got this fabulous attitude, and romantic tendencies she tries to hide under her tough-girl attitude...

She sings that fabulous song that's been my mantra all my life...

The Pink Ladies' pledge is to act cool, to look cool, and to beeeee cool...So tell me what's smart...Think Pink!

Then I think, nah...I, for one, don't try to hide my romantic side (ha, ha. That's just funny on its own. An image of me, trying to hide my romantic side...like with a towel or something). I try to be tough, but it often falls apart around me...and she's just waaaay too hot to represent me.

(Well, maybe that's not true, but I'm trying to remain modest)

Then there's Barbra Streisand in The Mirror Has Two Faces...

This doesn't sound quite as romantic, though, revealing myself through a fiftyish character...

(Even though it's all true...her character is alarmingly like me...right down to the food idiosyncrasies)

Then it came to me. After I watched The Notebook for about the tenth millionth trillionth time.

Yes, Ally is all me. She's crazy, romantic, fiery, a bit damaged (although why she's damaged is beyond me, since she seems to come from a good home...her mother is a bit of a worry, though...at least in the beginning of the movie)...she even talks like me.

This is not something I've come up with all on my own here. You know, like strutting around because you think you look exactly like Brad Pitt or something (I'd like to meet a man that has that problem)...

No, this was pointed out to me by my sister. My husband (and what the hell is my husband doing watching The Notebook, anyway??).

At first, I didn't listen to my sister when she rang me and said 'You've got to see The Notebook. She's you. The movie's you. It's all you. You'll love it. You'll cry.'

No, I did not believe her, despite the fact she's probably the one person on this planet that truly knows me the best.

It took me months to see it. Perhaps I was avoiding it, in some subconcious way. And then when I did finally watch it...whew. I've got a love affair with a movie. A DVD.

And I still cry, despite watching it all the damn time.

Now that's a love affair!

Now, a question...which movie represents you best?? Your inner workings, your longings, your character? Perhaps even your past or what you've gone through?

A Pink Champagne Christmas

December 24th 2006 04:33
On Christmas Eve, I wanted to take a moment to wish everybody a Pink Champagne Christmas.

Today, we've had a lovely day...the roast I cooked for lunch actually turned out (no near kitchen-on-fire, which actually almost happened the other night...who knew parmesan covered steaks could alight so quickly??)...

The three-layered jelly and custard creations turned out beautifully (after a minor jelly explosion incident at about midnight last night...but hey! The kitchen is now in tones of pink and green....what more could a girl ask for at Christmas?)...

And the pink champagne is currently flowing and bubbly and lovely and chilled.

My two-year-old is very happy, having been allowed to open two presents from her Aunty Nat Nat (2 Hi-Five dvd's and a stuffed white reindeer...good picks, Aunty Nat!)...

Plus she's had some scrumptious roast lamb (got the string out this time...it really is bad for your indigestion, anyway), some roast potoates, some corn on the cob...

And those jelly creations she consumed out of a purple jelly cup in about 2 seconds flat.

Also, while I had some pink champagne (did not even have to write that...you all assumed correctly), I allowed her some Coke. Just a bit. And only because it's a special day.

And she raised her plastic beaker to my glass of bubbly, and said 'Cheers!' to me!!

Was very cute and funny, but left me somehow thinking I'm doing something wrong as a mother...having her say Cheers and all, like she's down at the local pub.

Anyway, it's Christmas, and I wanted to say thanks to all I have this year...my beautiful little family, my baby girl...the ability to have a day of cooking where only small jelly explosions are the worst that happens...and to all the wonderful people, and friends I've made, on Orble.

I love you all.

Wish you were all sitting around my dining room table (or Dusk Devi's, whose table sounds quite large and impressive), having a Pink Champagne Christmas together.

Merry Christmas to you all...

Hi Tracy,

How are you??? What's happening in your world?

Yes, old Koontzie will do it every time....I think I've been in love with this man since I was 12! In love with an author...yeah, it's truly sad!

JZ,

I think Koontz is a huge Elliot fan....and HG Wells...which you can really see in his writing!

Thanks for your sweet words! And this post!

To JZ,

It takes a true man to know what really gets me going....

And that's Dean Koontz, every time!!!!

Loving your post...loving that you're loving old Koontzie...

I love The Taking myself....but you've got to read Odd Thomas....you've just got to. Of his most recent stuff, it's one of his best.

Also Life Expectancy was awesome...I could go on forever and ever....

(And I just might)

Converting people one Dean Koontz novel at a time...

(You'll be drinking pink champagne soon, JZ...now then I"ll worry)

To Tracy,

I had to leave a comment for you first, Tracy, as it is truly heartwarming that you've noticed my absence!!

Makes me all warm and fuzzy!

It takes Dean Koontz (and JZ) to lure me back!!

Hello my lovely Dusk,

Loving this post.....loving it!!!!!!!!

As I sit here, 5 kilos heavier than before Christmas...

But, oh. Food gorging and drinking pink champagne like it was water...

(Isn't it water????)

...That was all so much fun. Not to mention those strawberry candy canes, the triple-layer jelly cups with custard, the roast pork and roast potatoes....the creamy pasta salads....

(Oh, give me Christmas back!! I'm missing you already)

Now I just need to exercise....and exercise....and exercise so more...

(Only because my airbrusher is out of town for the next month or so)

And KylieW...are you sure you haven't seen me at the gym?? I swear you were describing me....

(I'm the fantastically colour-coordinated woman that doesn't break out into sweat....I am sooo kidding. I meant the sweating, foot-broken from dropping the weight on it, then swearing loud enough to have even the muscle bound guys who are only checking themselves out in the mirror look at you...)

Hi K.C.,

Oh, you know how to brighten my day, don't you???

(There should be more people in this world like you...a pink life brightener)

Can't wait to fill you in on the shooter in Betrayal...you'll love it (I hope).

Cheers to our year!

To Bhumika,

I love both those movies myself...

Especially Never Been Kissed...a personal fav of mine.

Actually, when the movie first came out, everybody, and I mean everybody, claimed I was sooo Drew's character in it...

I didn't know whether to be insulted or take it as a compliment.

(I was a bit insulted. She is rather dorky in it)

But close friends of my sister and I's always claim Drew Barrymore is the third Almeroth sister...she just doesn't know it.

Thanks for stopping by! And cheers to being hopelessly romantic...
