Sydney FC have claimed their first ever A League Premier's player and an Asian Champions League berth with a massive 2-nil win over rivals Melbourne at the Sydney Football Stadium. A first-half wonder goal from midfielder Karol Kisel, and arguably an even better strike by in-form striker John Aloisi in the second saw Sydney leap above the Victory.
The Sky Blues finish the home-and-away season a single point clear of the Melbourne Victory and have bragging rights head of their clash with the Victory in the first week of the A-League finals. The win couldn't have come in more spectacular fashion, in front of the 25,407 fans this was the Sydney Fc's biggest ever home and away crowd and their biggest win for this season. The win also give them a huge mental boost heading into their opening match of the finals series, the major semi-final first leg against the Victory at Etihad Stadium on Thursday night.
Corica who will retire at season's end was unable to really recover from his injury early in the game ad was substituted in the 18th minute with a hamstring injury he was replaced by Brendan Gan.
Karol Kisel who has not yet had any new contract talks may have opened the door to new contract talks the Slovakian national central midfielder gave Sydney FC a dream start and this should please current manager Vítezslav Lavicka who was his manager before he joined the side.
John Aloisi also has repaid the faith in him by Sydney FC and probably silenced many of his critics with his fine effort tonight, which capped off a great performance last weekend against the Glory at Parramatta Stadium.
The Victory will seek redemption at Etihad Stadium in the first league of the finals, with Kevin Muscat returning to the line up, and the possible loss of Robbie Kruase from tonights game, the Victory are going to need to find a massive effort if they are going to take home the title this season.
