I have mentioned before that I have a strong fondness for salad! I blame it on my mother who yes, I’ll admit it, is one of those ladies who goes to an amazingly fancy restaurant and orders a Salad. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but in my opinion if you go somewhere that specialises in Seafood or Meat, you try and utilise the opportunity to try something out of the ordinary but that’s just my humble opinion.
My love of Salad is proving to be quite annoying, I now feel incomplete if I do not have a seriously large portion of Salad throughout my day, I feel like I am a malnourished carnivore. I cannot stand going to a Pub and ordering a Steak (or any meat for that matter) which states on the menu it comes with salad or vege’s and when the Salad comes it consists of a few old pieces of rocket, 1 whole onion and a slice of Tomato.
I have been told that I would hate Ireland, Scotland, England and any other country that gets quite cold. Friends who just got back after travelling around for 8 weeks told me, no Salad or fresh veg is on ANY menu especially in the colder months.
This brings me to another point which basically is the purpose of this blog! Old Fruit or Veg why do people eat it? I am not just referring to fruit and veg that looks green and furry, I am talking about the stuff in a tin…I cannot stand anything but fresh.
If you disagree with me, I’d like to hear your thoughts, really!! I don’t know how you can justify eating tinned pears over real one? Tinned Tomato over home grown one? Frozen blueberries over fresh? Fair enough maybe the costs are slightly different but the texture let alone the artificial flavour enhancements really grind my gears.
Pre-packed Salads from Woollies or Coles…. fair enough it might be within the sued by. I swear to you, it always tastes different.
I know some people use old Banana’s for Banana bread, and frozen or tinned fruit for muffins, cakes, puddings…. that’s fine because I won’t eat that either. Hot Fruit….I think that’s the worst of all, even the texture is enough to send me to the toilet gagging.
I don’t know the problem with eating fruit how it is and how it was meant to be eaten?
For those who disagree with my thoughts, I challenge you to amend some of your old favourites and compare them.
Blueberry Muffins:
Instead grab a plain muffin or poppy seed and warm it up. Add some Ice-cream or just cream and throw in a couple of Fresh Blueberries. Delish!
Fruit Yogurt:
Go and buy a nice vanilla or honey flavoured yoghurt. Then add in some of your favourite fruit/s. It is bound to taste better then that gooey old fruit parts.
Pizza with Pineapple:
Say no to Pizza with pineapple.... Pizza options like Supreme without pineapple does not taste worse; in fact the presence isn’t missed. Ham and Pineapple should never be an option when choosing pizza..

Sweet or Sour?

July 29th 2008 07:08
Generally a person is either a sweet tooth or someone who craves the taste of something sour. But what about the people who fall somewhere in the middle of that category? I being one of those people!
If you are also a person that can’t decide whether sweet or sour is your cup of tea I believe I have some perfect options and amendments for you.
Firstly- Salad dressing!! I must say I love salad and don’t feel complete of I don’t have a salad throughout in my day! But a salad without dressing is like Batman without Robin (Just quietly I loved the dark Knight, but where the hell was Robin?)
My never fail homemade Salad dressing never fails to impress a crowd. You will need:
Balsamic vinegar, lemon, olive oil, garlic and SUGAR.
Now I’m not going to sit here and say how much of each you should use, because who am I to say that. Generally you would like to use more olive oil then vinegar, and maybe go light on the garlic. Just make sure you put some sugar in the dressing, it complements the sourness of the vinegar and MAN it is good
Also another favourite for those who love pop corn, but cannot stand the dry and sour taste after while I have the perfect option. When you cook your popcorn, pour some melted butter and mix throughout the bowl and then sprinkle icing sugar all through. Seriously, it might sound weird but it will feel like your tongue is on a spring break vacation.
Lastly, the soft serve cone- or a homemade ice cream cone. This again may seem weird, but the saltiness of a chip (the french-fry kind) mixed with the sweet and creaminess of the ice-cream is divine.

As a 21 year old who has been living out of home for almost 3 years, surprising my parents still don’t think I eat a well balanced diet. Far enough, for the majority of those years I was a very poor uni student, who at times thought party and clothes were more important then eating nutritious food.
I now work fulltime as a consequence of finishing my uni degree and I have never felt as much joy as filling up my pantry and actually keeping it that way so there is never a point in time where I think to myself, darn I have nothing to eat. I think a big part of that is due to the fact I also live with 2 footballers who need to be fed portions bigger then my food intake for a week.
I am described by my friends as someone who eats like a king, and to tell you the truth they are not wrong. For some reason my parents haven’t caught on to that, with both my mother and father bombarding me with calls every night literally to ask what I am cooking and offering their advice on how and why to cook various options. (Probably because for the first year out of school my diet was basically pasta every night).
I can’t complain though, because seriously a mum and (in my instance) a dad cooks meal never tasted as good as when I moved away from them. Every time I visit home I am literally smothered in food, roasts, casseroles, Barbeques, big breakfasts and stir-fries…anything and everything.
One thing that I really can’t get my head around is that an alarming number of people have told me in the past few months that they don’t like roasts and hate it when their parents rush to cook it when they visit home. I really can’t think why… as I type I a actually craving a warm roast with gorgeously cooks vege’s and a nice gravy mmm mmm.
Its actually laughable though, as much as I love coming home to the smell of a cooking roast and the excitement about actually getting to eat it, I have never actually cooked one for myself, weird I know! With a Weber outside just waiting to be used, maybe it is time.
But it gets me thinking, do I only love roasts and the meals my parents take hours of preparing; because I didn’t have to do a thing, not one ounce of preparing, waiting, testing etc?

I get paid on Wednesdays, so generally (with my lack of savings skills) I am dirt poor by the time it comes to planning dinner on Tuesday nights. To my dismay four of my friends decide to tell me late Tuesday afternoon that they would be coming over for that dinner and drinks we’d been planning for ages. I am such a carb lover and gold old spag bol never ceases to impress a crowd of people, it doesn’t dint the wallet and takes about 15 minutes to make, so alas that would be on menu.
I must admit until last night (Tuesday) I have never had a more eventful time cooking spag bol. As I am a full time worker, and the four friends that were visiting are uni students of holidays, they had the pleasure of starting their evening drinks about 5 hours before me. Not to self, drunk friends are the worst company for dinner when you are happily sober and be no means in the mood to join them in their binge.
Firstly cutting carrots, onions, garlic & mushrooms proves to be quite tough when people are standing around waiting to pinch whatever you have just shopped. Secondly, I have never realised that if you don’t include tomato’s even if the sauce is a tomato based sauce, the spag bol is below par. Thirdly, do not let someone intoxicated believe they are the next Gordon Ramsey and encourage then to do the saucepan flip manoeuvre, unless eating of the floor is a favourite past time of yours

Ice-Cream-An Old Favourite

July 7th 2008 03:28
When you live in a share house with three other people, and you are the star sign of Libra, you may find yourself in the same predicament as I constantly do. Some common traits of a Librian include resistance to change and extreme indecisiveness. Last night was one of the worst when it was my turn to choose the desert that the three of us would enjoy after a nice Sunday Roast.

Making my way to Coles I thought to myself, it’s an easy task, it will be as simple as walking to the frozen section and picking the always trusty Ice-Cream. However arriving at the Ice-Cream section, I found myself still in the same position 10 minutes later tossing up between the many options available. Chocolate, Strawberry, Vanilla, Fudge, Ice Cream cake, Rainbow, Icey Pops, Ice cream on Sticks, Cornetto’s, Gelato, Sorbet…Why so many options
