Kids need more play
October 17th 2006 00:47
According to new information released by the National Association of Sports and Physical Education, kids need MORE play time.
It recommends that EVERY DAY preschoolers should:
get at least 60 minutes of structured physical activity (adult-led activity)
get at least 60 minutes of unstructured physical activity (free play) , preferably several hours a day
not be inactive for more than 1 hour at a time (unless sleeping)
I am sure my daughters would be happy to hear these guidelines (wink) - they always like more play (SMILE)
I personally think the guidelines are set too high - My daughters are typical preschooler always running and jumping and watch no television BUT ONE HOUR OF ADULT LED STRUCTURED PHYSICAL ACTIVITY EVERY DAY...???
Is it only me who thinks it is too much?
I like guidelines but when they seem unachievable wouldn't most people like me give up even before trying?
I am all for exercise and physical fitness but now it feels that I have to cram one more thing into their schedule everyday
Whatever happened to play being fun?????
