President Obama has returned to the campaign trail. He is appearing in television advertisements in New Jersey this week on behalf of Gov. Jon S. Corzine, the embattled Democrat struggling to win a second term. And he campaigned on Thursday evening alongside R. Creigh Deeds, the candidate for governor fighting to keep Virginia in the Democratic column.

The New Jersey and Virginia races for governor are the only big-ticket political contests for 2009. And fairly or not — Mr. Obama’s advisers are not alone in arguing that the significance of these races does not extend beyond the boundaries of either state — the contests are being held up as an early measure of how Mr. Obama is doing and a predictor of how Democrats might fare in next year’s Congressional campaigns.

This is posing complications for the White House, as it dispatches Mr. Obama to help. Early polls show Republicans have staked out leads in the two states: Robert F. McDonnell, the former Republican attorney general, over Mr. Creeds to fill the seat being vacated by Tim Kaine, Democrat of Virginia, and Christopher J. Christie, a Republican former prosecutor, over Mr. Corzine in New Jersey

At the center of the ring is Daniel P. Boyd, 39, who trained in terrorist camps in Pakistan and Afghanistan in the 1980s before fighting the Soviet Union, authorities said. Boyd, a Muslim convert, returned home and three years ago allegedly began recruiting a group of men to wage jihad.
Terrorism

Also known as "Saifullah," or sword of God, Boyd raised money to send his acolytes on a visit to the Middle East, according to an indictment handed up by a grand jury last week and unsealed Monday.

Authorities picked up no sign of communications between Boyd and al-Qaeda or any plans by the Raleigh group to wreak havoc, according to a law enforcement source who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the investigation continues. But the weapons that the group had allegedly amassed and brandished in training exercises in North Carolina this June and July gave pause to federal officials, the source added.

The firearms mentioned in the indictment include several semiautomatic weapons, including an AK-47 assault rifle and carbines modeled after the military's M14 and M16.

(Barack Hussein Obama)

May 9th 2009 12:47
President Barack Obama, who promised to lend a hand to the Islamic world if it unclenches a fist, plans a major speech from Egypt next month as he seeks to repair damaged relations between the United States and Muslims.
Egyptians' reception of Obama will be closely watched all over the world. With his Islamic name (Barack Hussein Obama) and family links to Islam, many Muslims are fascinated by the new U.S. president.
The much-anticipated speech will further Obama's efforts to cool down animosities that burst into flame 30 years ago when Iranians overran the U.S. embassy in Tehran, and were fueled by the 9/11 terrorist attacks and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. In his inaugural address in January, he told the Muslim world "we will extend a hand if you are willing to unclench your fist." He has granted interviews to Arabic-language networks, telephoned friendly Arab leaders and sent special envoy George J. Mitchell to the Middle East on a "listening tour."

Obama's plan to close the prison for suspected terrorists at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, was seen as a move to address a chief source of ill will among Muslim nations since the hijacked jetliner attacks on New York and Washington on Sept. 11, 2001.
At least two other emotional highlights seem certain. Obama will visit the former Nazi concentration camp at Buchenwald in Germany on June 5. And he will be in France to commemorate the 65th anniversary of the allies' invasion of Normandy on D-Day.
Obama, whose father was a Muslim from Kenya, said in Turkey last month that the United States "is not and never will be at war with Islam."

White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said Obama chose Egypt because it "in many ways represents the heart of the Arab world." He later said the president will be addressing non-Arab Muslims as well, noting that non-Arab Indonesia is the world's largest Muslim country and a place where Obama spent part of his childhood.

Is it a thumbs up or a thumbs down for President Obama as he completes a 100 days in office? What are his achievements as he marks this milestone?
"Starting today, we must pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off, and begin again the work of remaking America" - this is what US President Barack Obama told the massive crowd gathered on the National Mall for his inauguration, on January 20, 2009.
100 days after he said that, some believe he's done quite a bit. Obama has ordered closure of Guantanamo Bay prison, reworked interrogation policies for terror suspects and promised to pull out majority of troops in Iraq by 2010. And to revive the sagging economy, a 787 billion bailout package plus rescue plans for the banking, auto and real estate sectors

US economic recession could end in 2009

February 25th 2009 07:16
The recession, which started in December 2007, already has killed a net total of 3.6 million jobs. Housing, credit and financial crises — the worst since the 1930s — plunged the economy into its worst slide in a quarter-century at the end of last year.

Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke told Congress that the economy is suffering through a “severe contraction” and pledged to use all available tools to lift the country out of the recession that already has cost millions of Americans their jobs.In testimony to the Senate Banking Committee, Bernanke said the economy is likely to keep shrinking in the first six months of this year. Bernanke hoped that the current recession will end this year, but said there were significant risks to that forecast. Any economic turnaround will hinge on the success of the Fed and the Obama administration in getting credit and financial markets to operate more normally again

Obama Details Recovery Plan

January 25th 2009 03:42
Does anyone remember the last eight years? did we forget already about the books and movies that depicted the death of President Bush? did we forget the hate-speech that was gushing like a polluted river from the Left? How about all the protests? Have they been erased from our memory banks? An Aggressive Push Before Congress Considers Package
President Obama pressed aggressively for his massive economic recovery plan yesterday, laying out the most detailed benchmarks to date of a stimulus package that would cost at least $820 billion and warning that the nation's economy could become dramatically worse without major federal investment.

President-elect Barack Obama said he and Congress will "hone and refine" his nearly $800 billion economic recovery plan, as he seeks to patch fissures with senior Democrats over key features of the still-emerging plan. The job was made more urgent with the release of a Labor Department report showing job losses of 524,000 in December and a 7.2 percent unemployment rate, the highest in 16 years. Obama said he welcomed input from lawmakers in both parties. His plan is getting off to a rocky start, with top Democrats openly slamming key provisions, especially the design of his tax cuts.
He said that if members of Congress have good ideas, if they can identify a project for me that will create jobs in an efficient way that does not hamper our ability over the long term to get control of our deficit, that is good for the economy, then I'm going to accept it.A squadron of Obama officials came to the Capitol to brief House Democrats on the measure and again heard criticism of some of Obama's proposed tax cuts, particularly a $3,000 tax credit for job creation. Lawmakers pressed for more infrastructure spending and tax credits to promote renewable energy. The feedback loop promi"What we can't do is drag this out when we just saw a half-million jobs lost," Obama said a call for a $3,000 tax break for job creation drew particular criticism in a closed-door meeting, and numerous lawmakers said Obama had not ticketed enough of his tax proposal for energy and that more needed to be done to ease the Housing crisis."All of their priorities are ones that we share," said House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif. "We just want to make sure that those functions, when they're written in the bill, are ones that can be used immediately and can create jobs."

Jobs in coming year 2009!!

December 25th 2008 19:41
The president-elect Sen. Barack Obama has been talking about a financial stimulus package to help the economy get back on its feet over the past several weeks. I will do my best to quickly clarify it he recently revealed a key element of this package, a massive undertaking of the federal government the form of a public works program that will rival the construction of the interstate highway system back in the 50s. The thinking is pretty simple-a total investment of approximately $140 billion would be used to repair this crumbling infrastructure of roads, schools as well as government buildings, thereby creating jobs for millions of people. Additionally, these buildings will be retrofitted for energy efficiency, thereby reducing energy costs and in theory making us more competitive on the world stage.
Now everyday is challenging because In November 2008, the American economy lost over 500,000 jobs, driving unemployment to a 14-year high of almost 7%. The loss of jobs has a trickle-down effect on the economy so even if you are self-employed, you are likely to see reduction in sales as disposable income declines. Obviously these are bleak times, and require decisive action-not only on the part of the federal government, but on the part of each and every one of us ourselves.

Should George Ryan go free?

December 2nd 2008 18:00
Wow. I know I shouldn’t have been surprised. But when sen .Dick Durbin’s aides handed out to reporters the senator’s letter to Bush, I just got mad when I read the pertinent sections.
As far as I know Durbin conceded to reporters that his sympathetic remarks last week toward Former Gov.Ryan were met with an “Outpouring of emotion” from across the state and that it had been "overwhelmingly negative reaction to his decision. You know I am not the only one who is blogging the issue of Ryan and of course as we all know Ryan was convicted in an old-fashioned political corruption case. He illegally steered business to his buddies. They took care of him. Let’s also look at one of the main assertions on Ryan’s behalf, that he is been punished enough in part because his government pension has already been taken away.
Ryan had already collected about $800,000 from his ridiculous $197,000 a year pension before he sent off to Jail.how many of you can expect to collect $800,000 from a pension in your entire lifetime? Not Many? Here is something Ryan wrote” My failings have brought humiliation upon my family, cost me my reputation and name, brought financial ruin to me and my wife, and worst of all, caused me to be away from Lura Lynn when, in our twilight years, she needs me most
