Keeping Cool at Boiling Point!
Grace under fire… No it’s not being chased into a fire, nor a war zone, not a prayer, or even
a girl’s name. It’s all of the above and a whole lot more. It’s the ability to keep hold of your temper and not say things in the heat of the moment; it’s being to control your response to any given situation. Being in control of you therefore being able to control some parts of your life. You can complain about the weather and friends, the boss, the cat had kittens; the kids are driving you crazy or a billion and one excuses about why these things happen to you. Reality is you can have some influence on some things outside of yourself. For the rest of the time you can only control yourself.
Controlling yourself is not to manipulate others into doing what you want or being forceful. It doesn’t involve using emotional blackmail “the or else.” syndrome or the silent treatment. It isn’t taking your bad moods out on some one nearby or blaming others for your mistakes. It’s not being so scared that you will dodge and weave to avoid a person or situation. It’s not being so full of fear that you have irrational thoughts screaming through your head at one hundred miles per hour. Thinking of what you can do to stop, avoid or put off dealing with the situation. It’s not being so scared to ask for help that you feel like you are the only one – feelings of being suicidal. Dealing with anger in a positive way so that it doesn’t explode whereby you might do something to regret later on.
Controlling is not putting so much pressure on yourself that you are unable to live up to your own expectations. Doing that only increases the feelings of being a failure inside yourself. This continual action only reinforces what you already think – I am a failure. Thereby you will see the results of those thoughts in your life outside of your head because you keep thinking that way. You attract what you think – like it or not you get what you attract. Happiness equals happiness, anger equals anger etc. Thinking that you are a failure you will attract circumstances to reinforce what you already believe to be true for you.
Controlling is to become educated and getting to know yourself. Questions arise like Who am I? This doesn’t mean identifying with your given names from birth.
Why am I here? A bit vague – needs to become more centralised – you could be asking that question when you are at the supermarket. Or another possibility is why was I created?
Why do I feel this way? Asking yourself a logical question to see why you are feeling that way about something or someone.
What is anger and how can I deal with it?
There are literally millions of questions you can ask of yourself and in becoming to involve you can drive yourself into distraction. To stop being so much like a hurricane that picks up everything within a certain radius and stops your thoughts whirring out of control. Pick one thing at a time. It is by simplifying our thoughts that we can get the answers we seek. Patience, education and being able to keep an open mind all help when looking for answers within you.
It means stop looking left, right, centre stage, at the television, going to psychics etc and take one step at a time. You didn’t go from not being able to crawl to driving a car in one day… Everything takes time….
