Kate Loses Her Parents

January 25th 2012 02:36
Kate walked the streets. She had gone to the shops with her family, and she had left without them. She shuddered to herself. She had been happily shopping with them, and now she had nothing. She didn't know what to do! She had nothing but her little purse which she took with her everywhere. It wasn't a real purse either! It didn't have any money!

“How could this have happened to me?” asked Kate as she looked left and right and saw one strange street and then another.

She wasn't sure where she was going, she only knew she lived near the great big hill. She could see the top of it in the distance, and she knew that was where her home was. Kate began to walk as her heart pumped inside of her chest. She had felt the sensation before. She had felt it earlier on in the day when her hand had slipped from her mothers hand as they had walked through a crowd. Her mother had disappeared as though she hadn't noticed. Kate one the other hand began to scream inside of her mind as rows of strangers flooded around her! She became lost in no time, and there was no one to catch her as she fell apart.

Kate had walked for hours as she searched for her mother. She walked through every store, and she could find no one. She began to mope a little as she looked under the cubical of the last toilet she had found. There was no trace of her mother, and she sobbed as she realised all the people had gone home.

Kate had left the supermarket. She had begun to walk. At first it had been around the car park. However then her eyes spotted the great big hill in the distance, and she knew that she had somewhere to go.

“I live on that big hill! All I have to do is get there!” she had cried as she wiped her last blubber off her face and then began to march.

Kate walked up the tree lined street. The area was quite dark with all the trees hanging around every inch of the pavement. Kate shivered as she glared at the trees. She shivered as she glared at the dark. A rustle shook her into alarm, and he almost screamed as some kind of bird emerged from the growth!

“This is a wild and terrible place!” Kate muttered as she placed a hand on her chest.

Kate moved, and began to walk again. She walked further and further then ever before. Her feet grew tired as she trudged up a little bit of hill, however then her knees grew tired as she walked down it! Kate shivered as the trees continued to darken the street. She glared at the light-post that stood many metres ahead, and began to think how the whole area needed one beside every tree in order to see clear.

“It's getting a little cold;” Kate muttered as she began to wonder if the sun had set in the sky. “I wish I had brought a coat!” she declared as she glared left and right and grew chills as she looked at the leaves as they were pushed by the wind.

Kate grew a little creeped out as she thought she saw a figure in the dim. It stood by a garden gate, and was the size of any adult. She quickly began to scurry away just in case the haunting figure moved. As she scurried she began to loose sight of all that lay before her. Her eyes were focused on the haunting figure, she didn't even see the real one until she had crashed right into it!

“Ow!” Kate cried as she heard a pronounced 'hmph!'

Kate looked before her and saw the face of a kind stranger. He glared at her as he rubbed his leg.

“That was quite a collision!” he muttered as he brought out a smile.

“I am sorry...” muttered Kate. “I thought I had seen a scary figure;” she declared.

“What do you mean?” asked the fellow as he glanced behind her shoulder as though concerned.

“There was a figure by the garden gate!” told Kate as she began to shiver inside of her skin.

“That old statue?” the fellow muttered as he narrowed his eyes. “Why, that's been there for years;” he said as he began to laugh.

“It was a statue?” asked Kate as she shook her daydreams off her head. “I thought it had been...” she shivered to herself as she began to think how foolish she had been.

“Say, where are you from? Where are your parents? Do you live around here?” asked the fellow as he began to look around and see not a soul around. “Little girls shouldn't be walking through the night;” he muttered. “Why it's five pm;” he declared as he looked to his watch.

“I know;” muttered Kate as she shook her head. “I lost my mum, I was walking towards the great big hill;” she said as she began to feel all depressed and mopey all of a sudden.

“That's no good little girl;” told the fellow as he looked to her. “You could meet a rough fellow on the way home;” he said as he stared in a manner that made Kate feel safe. “How about you come home with me? I had a car, I can drive you to the big hill and you can be there before the night gets really dark;” he muttered.

“Do you really have a car?” asked Kate as she stared with twinkles in her eyes.

“Sure do!” declared the fellow as he smiled. “I live only a few blocks away;” he muttered as he held out his hand. “My name is Adam;” he said.

“I am Kate!” declared Kate with eagerness as she took the hand and shook it.

“Pleased to meet you Kate;” told Adam as he smiled a smiled that was pure white and clean.

Kate knew only good people had smiles so clean, and she grew very bright over what she could see. She allowed Adam to take her hand, and she walked with him all the way home. Every now and again Adam would ask if she felt okay walking, and Kate declared that she was fine. They reached Adam's home in no time, and once there Adam offered Kate some bread, cheese, and fruit. Kate took it and ate a meal. She was able to chatter with Adam ever so easily, and she was left to feel right at home.

After dinner Adam asked Kate if she was ready to see his car. Kate smiled, and said she was ready. Kate moved to the garage with Adam. There she glared at a lovely car which was so polished and shiny she couldn't believe it had ever been driven. Kate gushed as Adam told her he needed to collect his keys. Adam moved to the hardware bench by the side, and he jiggled keys that hung off a hook. Kate hardly noticed as his fingers fell and picked up a hammer. She just talked about how shiny the car was, and she glared at her own reflection as she talked. However then a shadow crept over her, and Kate saw her reflection disappear. She felt a chill crawl up her spine, and then she felt a big heavy whack which impacted the back of her head! Kate felt a crack, and then she felt a pain that caused her lips to cry out a high pitched wail. She felt it again, one heavy blow after the next! It hit her head, it hit her ear, it hit her nose, it hit her cheek. Kate tasted blood as she fell to the floor! She groaned.

“He was such a nice fella;” she whined before she felt her damaged body get lifted off the ground, and out of its pool of blood.

Kate was taken to the workbench, and there the fella picked up a saw. He began to cut, and as Kate began to cry he hit her throat with the hammer until she could hardly breathe. She blinked as she felt the teeth of the saw cut into her skin. She could only gurgle, even as she felt her limbs get cut into cubes.

“I'll never trust a stranger again;” she thought. “Not ever;”
