Our second meal isn’t exactly Dinner but a Lunch!

Myself, Mark and Heidi went on a bit of a road trip around Kiama, Saddleback Mountains and then on to Kangaroo Valley via Robertson.

Robertson, home of the "Big Potato" and where we stopped for lunch.

While on the outskirts it does have one of the best pie shops in the country, we decided to drive in to the heart of the town and try something local. We found Three Creeks Cafe.

A small, blink and you miss it cafe the size of a small terraced house. Very friendly and a great family atmosphere.

We were welcomed in and handed our menus. Mark and I ordered a coke and diet coke while Heidi had a banana smoothie.

The menu had a good mix of gourmet sandwiches to salads to hot pasta and chicken dishes. There was a "specials" blackboard as well which had meatballs, more pasta and salads, risotto and other gourmet foods.

Heidi and I ordered the meatballs while Mark had a chicken and avocado gourmet sandwich, with no avocado.

The wait was pretty short but the smells from the kitchen which was just there was delicious and we waited with great anticipation for our meals.

When they arrived I will be honest with you, I was disappointed (as was Heidi) that it was only 4 meatballs on a bed of fettuccini and a salad. But oh. my. god. It was delicious. The salad, the meatballs I could of ordered it again!

Marks sandwich was huge with a grilled piece of chicken and a pesto but it came with avocado!! Oh no! I got the avocado which only made the salad better, Mark enjoyed his sandwich and we were all really full afterwards.

We discussed at great length of whether or not we would have desert and in the end decided against it but they had a good selection of deserts from homemade cakes and tarts to bread and butter puddings and custards and ice cream.

I loved this little cafe. I loved the food and the atmosphere. I would defo come back here again.

The first restaurant that Mark (my partner) and I ventured to was a Mexican restaurant, 3Gringos.

Mark had told me that about 7 years ago, when he last came here, it was like a hole in the wall. Small, dark and not very appealing to the eyes. Oh how times have changed.

Situated at the back of Bi-Low and opposite "Stonegrill"

3Gringos has some seats outside but the inside is the where the magic happens.

When we got there, having not booked we were very politely told that there was no room inside but we could sit outside. Now given how cold it was and I was wearing sandals I was skeptical. But the chrome heater did the job and warmed us both.

It is BYO with a $2 corkage and only one style wine glass; I had bought a bottle of sparkling wine, but that’s just me being picky. But upon checking my receipt they haven’t actually charged me for the corkage... WIN!

Our finished desert

The menu is clearly laid out and easy to read. Each meal has a small one line blurb about what is in the dish. It also notes that the dishes are all "mild" but you can have "Hot" "Very Hot" "Suicide" or "Meltdown" sauces on the side.

We ordered a main each. Mark had the Nachos with no Sour cream and Guacamole and I have the Enchiladas with hot sauce on the side.

The meal came quickly and was nicely presented and there was a lot of it. Mine had rice under the flour tortillas and both came with a salad.

My hot sauce was just that, hot! It was a nice addition to the meal.

We then ordered a desert, I had the Liqueur ice cream and Mark had the Sticky Date Pudding. Both were delicious and and as you can see from the photo we clean our plates!!

The service was good and the cost was good for the food we got. Mark did comment that it wasn’t the best nachos he has ever had but he did finish them.

A new restaurant a week

August 15th 2010 13:25
Hello and welcome to my new blog.

Recently my self, my partner and best friend decided that we would embark on a eating challenge that would take us somewhere new every week.

Be it Italian, Mexican, French or the bistro at the local RSL, we would try it.

For me, I have been trying to work out what I can do a blog on.. this is it!

As we live on the South Coast, Nowra to be exact, most of the place we visit could be anywhere between Ulladulla and Wollongong....

I hope you enjoy!!!
