Just Driving

December 14th 2010 01:49
The cocomphony of noises around me would have driven any sane person mad. Between the lound honking horns of the irritated people around me, the yelling of those whos horns were broken, and the screaming baby in the back seat I was a little more than stressed out by the days events so far, events that started when my little angel decided to wake up at 2 am. It sounded pretty much the same then as it did now, and if you've ever lived witness to the cries a screaming baby can issue, you know what I'm talking about. After half an hour of trying to calm her down, I gave up and joined in. I'm pretty sure that every parent that has ever existed has reached this point, but don't quote me on that.

Then, after the mourning, I started blaming. It was my mom's fault for not putting her down for a nap at the allotted time. It was my husband's fault for not getting a good job that forced me to work two part time ones in order to keep our little hole in the wall apartment. It was the government's fault for laying off more than 25% of it's workforce due to cutbacks by fat and wealthy politicians that my husband got laid off. It was the people's faults for electing the fat and wealthy politicians who cut the work force that much, there by laying off my husband. And, finally, they probably voted that way, because they too were up at 2am, trying to tend to the screaming baby in the other room.

But, we were a long way away from the early morning cries. We were in Downtown Los Angeles, trying to navigate from from the 5 to the 170, that turned into the 101, following that onto the 210 east, just in time to find out that we really wanted the 210 west, and yet more horns, more cursing, and another attempt to get my darling angel to another audition. Was this all there was to life? The angry, frustrating cries of a little girl in the back seat, the worry about the other drivers in their cars, honking at me? When did all this go wrong?
