Just another Ghost Story: Ch 3: Girls from the past
Sam stops and looks at her. He can’t believe what she just said, but he felt he new her from the start. Could it really be Jessica?
Sam says, “Jess, How, is it really you?"
She says, “Yes, Sam. Starla doesn’t know. I don’t want to hurt her. It happened after I died.”
Jessica explains what happened to her and Starla the best she can remember. Sam listens intently.
She says, “Starla prayed while she was waiting for someone to help her during her car accident. She was told everything would be fine if she was willing to do anything for the greater good of humanity. She said she would. A female presence pulled me out of the fire. I was told to look for you Sam. Starla would be fine. I looked for years. Starla was exhausted. I found Dean once, but Starla was drinking so many purple nurples with him she passed out before I could find and talk to you. I’m glad I finally found you Samuel.”
Sam says, “I miss you. I’m so different. I don’t know if you can still love me the way I am now.”
His cellphone buzzes. He has to take the call this time.
Dean and Mila are lying in bed exhausted.
Dean says, “You’re a great Dr.”
Mila says, “You’re an easy patient.”
Dean says “Yeah, I’m easy. Maybe I’ll just stay here one more night.”
Mila says, “Fine with me.”
Dean says, “I better talk to Sam.”
Mila says, “He’s fine with Starta a little longer. Come here.”
She pulls him to her enticing him to be with her again…
Dean turns over on his back. He looks at the time.
He says, “I have to call Sam.”
Mila says, “I’ll go get us some drinks.”
Sam answers quickly for a change.
Dean says, “You two OK? I’m staying here tonight”
Sam Says, “Fine, ok. I’ll research the case.”
Dean says, “We’ll meet when the girls fall asleep.”
Sam says, “Yeah, Ok.”
Mila walks back into the room with two beers. One is for Dean the other is for her. Dean grabs both for himself.
Dean says, “Thanks for the beers”
Mila grabs one back. She says, “I don’t recommend you self medicate like that. You can have another when you’re done with that. So, how are Sam and Starla?”
Dean says, “They’re still talking through her nightmare. Sam says she can spend the night with him.”
Mila says, “Well, I’m going to have to sleep a little bit tonight before I go back to work in the morning.”
Dean says, “Yeah, I guess I could use some sleep. Just get in this bed and we will sleep, eventually.”
He gives her a big almost evil grin. Neither of them are going to sleep for awhile.
Ruby opens the door of the motel. She walks in like she owns the place interrupting Sam and Jessica.
Ruby says, “Who’s this Sam? I was worried about you?”
Sam says, “Ruby this is um…”
Starla says, “I’m Starla. Sam is trying to help me figure out my nightmare.”
Ruby says, “Really, that’s who you are, Starla. Sam, is that what you are doing?”
Sam says, “Yeah, Ruby. I’m helping her. You got a problem with that.”
Ruby says, “Don’t get an attitude. It’s fine Sam. Is there anything you need before I leave?”
Sam says, “I’m ok Ruby. I’ll talk to you later.”
Laughing She says, “Only if I’m available.”
She leaves.
Starla says, “Was that your girlfriend?”
Sam says, “Don’t worry about her.”
Starla says, “Ok Sam. What were we talking about? I think I blacked out for awhile again, sorry. I don’t even remember coming here."
Sam says, “It’s all going to be ok. I think we were finished talking for awhile. Can we…”
Jessica says, “Yes Samuel, I miss being with you too.”
Sam stares at his laptop while his love sleeps beside him. He searches for information about the hospital and finds out there was a fire there in 1809. Everyone got out except one nurse that went back in thinking there was one more patient to save. The hospital was refurbished. This was going to be easy to wrap up if part of her were somehow still in that waiting room. He goes outside to call Dean. Dean is already standing outside against the Impala. He was just about to call Sam.
Sam says, “I was coming out here to call you. Let’s go to the hospital. I’ll tell you what I found on the way. I think this is just your basic ghost. We just have to find what’s left of her in that waiting room salt and burn. Then no more air conditioner problems.”
They get to the hospital. Then they go in the waiting room and lock the door.
Dean says, “I guess we are going to have to just find her in the walls. Do you want to put the first ax through the wall or should I?”
Sam says, “Go for it.”
They start chopping holes in the wall which makes enough noise that an orderly knocks on the door wanting to know what is going on inside.
Dean says, “We’re just fixing the air conditioning. Don’t worry we will be done in a few minutes.”
The orderly says, “Why’s the door locked. I’m getting security.”
Dean says, “We better hurry.”
Sam says, “I found her.”
The grey nurse appears behind them. Sam sees her reflection in the window.
Sam says, “Dean, don’t turn around. Throw the gas; I’ll light it.”
Just as she touches Dean’s shoulder Sam lights her remains. She burns. The door knob turns to open. Sam and Dean break the window to get out quickly. As they are walking to the Impala Mila pulls in the parking lot. She winds down her wind when she sees Dean. Dean goes over trying to act like nothing out of the ordinary is going on. Sam has his arms crossed. He stands behind Dean looking around.
Mila says, ‘What are you guys doing walking around here so late?”
Dean says, “Well, Sam has real bad insomnia. A long walk at night just puts him out like a baby.”
Mila says, “Ok, don’t tell me. Dean, you can hangout at the house if you want. I’m only on 12 hours or so.”
Dean says, “Yeah, maybe.”
Sam says, “Let’s go, Dean. I didn’t want to leave Starla this long.”
Mila says, “That’s so sweet Sam. Dean go to the house. Let them be alone. She needs something good to happen to her.”
Dean says, “Ok.”
Sam grabs Dean’s arm to pull him away.
Sam says, “Come on.”
They walk to the Impala across the street. Police cars are pulling into the hospital parking lot to checkout the vandalism in the waiting room. Dean drives Sam back to the motel. As Dean looks in the motel window he swears he sees Anna talking to Starla. she’s gone in a split second.
Dean says, “I must be tired. I’m seeing things. We should get out of here tonight Sam. But you’re not ready are you?”
Sam says, “I know we should. I just can’t leave without helping that girl in there.”
Jessica turns to Sam as he gets in bed with her.
Jessica says, “Is everything alright?”
Sam says, “Right here it is perfect.”
Jessica says, “Don’t leave me Sam.”
Sam says, “I don’t want to leave you. I just want to be here with you. Do you still want me?”
Jessica says, “Yes, Samuel, but I have to tell you…”
Sam says, “You can tell me after. I need to be with you.”
He kisses her lips softly. He does everything he remembers she likes. Her body may be different, but her reactions to him feels as good as he remembers.
Dean goes to the house. He lets himself in with the key under the mat. The house is quiet and dark. Then he sees light coming from the kitchen. He pulls his gun as he goes to check it out. Anna is standing by the back window.
Anna says, "Hi Dean. You know I’m no threat. Take a seat. I have to tell you something important.”
Dean says, “Ok, Anna. I thought I’d never see you again. You look great. What can I do for you?”
Anna goes to him. She puts her hand on his shoulder. He closes his eyes. The stress and anxiety leave his body. He feels peaceful.
Anna, Says, “I have to tell you about Starla. Sam needs you to believe this. I think it will be better coming from me even if others disagree.”
Dean says, “What is it Anna? Did he have to kill her because she’s evil? He’s always picked the evil ones…’
Anna says, “Shhh, no Dean. It’s the opposite of that. She’s part Angel. Don’t tell him I told you. Don’t tell anyone, not even my um, not even Castiel, ok? Just go along with what Sam chooses to tell you about her. He needs her. Dean, he needs you to support him too.”
Anna walks out of the room. Dean tries to follow.
Dean says, “Anna…”
She is not there as he goes into the living room.
Sam says, “Jess, How, is it really you?"
