Just another Ghost Story: Ch 2: Who is she?
June 6th 2009 13:44
Starla opens her eyes. Sam is sitting in a chair at her
bedside. Dean and Mila run to the door when they hear
her scream. Dean says, “What’s
going on in here?” Mila says, "Are you ok Starla? Was that another
nightmare?” Starla says, “I’m ok, Yeah, it was that same
nightmare I always have. I was burning.” She looks at
Sam. She says, “You were there Sam. I knew it was
you…” Sam Says, “I was the last person you
saw before you fell asleep that’s why you dreamed I was
there.”
Dean and Mila head down to the kitchen. Dean says,
“Does Starla always wakeup screaming like that?” Mila
says, “She does it often enough. She said it started
after her car accident.” Dean says, “Oh, Hey babe can I
have some more of these eggs. They are the best I’ve had
in ages. Mila says, “Thanks, I’d be happy to give you
more.”
Starla says, “No Sam, you’ve always been part of my
nightmare. It’s you in the bed. Your eyes are just as
green but more full of light in my dream.
I look at you and start to get hot. Then I’m on fire. That’s
when I wakeup.” He holds her hand in one of his while
he pushes her hair back off her face with the other.
Sam says, “Its just a dream. That never
happened and it never will happen. Have you always had
this dream?”
Starla looks at Sam. His eyes show concern and interest
but the tension in the way he is holding his body so
stiff shows disbelief. Starla says, “I’m getting up. I’m
fine. You don’t have to believe a word I say Sam.” She
flings the blanket over his head while getting out of
bed. Someone has put her favorite Smurf pajama top
on her. She says, “Did you put this on me Sam?” She
goes out her door and into the bathroom before he sees
her. Sam says, “no, I didn’t. Mila put it on you
after I carried you in out of the Impala. I didn’t come in
until you were under the covers asleep.” He heads to
the door of the bathroom when he hears the bathroom
door slammed shut in the hallway.
Dean and Mila hear the commotion. Dean says, “Ah, the
sounds of love in bloom.” Mila says, “She usually calms
down quickly. We’ll just let them work it out.” Dean
says, “So, how long have you been working at that
hospital?” Mila says, “Not long, under a year.” Dean says,
“Is it always that cold in the family waiting room?” Mila
says, “They tell us there is something wrong with the
heat in there, but they can’t figure it out. It’s sometime
fine, other times it is freezing.”
Sam knocks on the bathroom door lightly. He wonders how
she could tell he was a little skeptical of what she was
saying. He was doing his best to show her sympathy.
He’s always gained peoples’ trust easily looking into
their eyes and just listening. Well, Jessica had told him
she new from the beginning what he was trying to do,
but she liked him so she let him think she was falling
for his little trick. But everyone else was ready to trust
him without doubt. Sam says, “Starla I really want to
know. What is the date you started having your
nightmares?” Starla says, "Not that it should really
matter, but on November 2, 2005 I was in a car
accident right before midnight. I had my first nightmare
that night. I woke up screaming in the hospital. When I
told the nurse she said it was because my car had
caught on fire, but somehow I got out before it
exploded. Now go downstairs with your brother and
Mila.” Stunned Sam says, “Sure, ok, see you later.”
Sam joins Dean and Mila downstairs. Dean says, “You
should eat something Sam. You look pale and Mila’s an
awesome cook.” Sam says, “No thanks. I’m not hungry.”
Dean says, “I was asking Mila about her work place.
The waiting room where I hungout last night had some
cold spots. But it warmed up when she walked in the
room.” Sam says, “Yeah, that’s good.” Dean says, “You
ok, Sam?” Sam says, “I’m fine.” Dean says, “Mila, I’ll
see you later. I think me and my brother have to go out
for a bit. But I’ll be back. You’re off work another 24
hours right?” Mila says, “Yeah, Dean, I guess I might just see you later.”
Dean and Sam walk out to the Impala. They both lean on
the front end and look around. No one is really around
so they can talk freely. Dean says, “What’s up with you
Sam? You and Starla not really hitting it off like you
wanted or something? I hope you are because we might
be staying here awhile. I found us a case.”Sam says, “I
think were getting along, I don’t know, man. There’s
just something about her. What’s the case?”
Dean slaps him on the back and smiles. Sam looks at him
a little annoyed. Dean says, “There’s something about
all women. They’re awesome. Their legs, their hair,
their lips, their b…” Sam says, “The case Dean. What
did you find?” Dean laughs. Then he tells Sam about
something he felt in the waiting room. Sam gets his laptop
from under the front passenger seat and starts
searching for what it could be.
Sam says, “Did you see anything? Was it a grey figure or
something like that?” Dean says, “Maybe, I was groggy.
But something grabbed my arm.” Sam reads what he
has found to Dean. Sam says, “You didn’t really see
anything, did you?” It says here people that have seen
the Grey Nurse die soon after. Tell me you didn’t look
at it Dean?” Dean says,
“No, I just felt it brush against my arm. Maybe it grabbed
me. I don’t know. I might have seen a blurr. But that
doesn’t count, does it?
Sam and Dean go to the hospital pretending to be air
conditioner specialists. Dean bends down to checkout
the cooling unit responsible for the family waiting room
he was in last night. Sam laughs at the sight because
like a lot of repairmen Dean’s ass is hanging out the
back of his jeans.
Sam says, “You sure fit the role of repairman Dean, Crack
and all.” Dean stands up and pulls up his jeans. Dean
says, “Ha ha, that’s very funny. You try to look under
there without your pants sliding down a little.” Sam
says, “No thank you.” Dean says, “Well, there’s nothing
here. Let’s check the waiting room.”They go to the
waiting room Dean was in the night before. The room is
cold again, so there is no one there. Sam takes readings
of the room with the equipment he brought. Dean looks
around the room for any signs that something evil has
been there.
Sam says, “The readings are off the charts. There is
definitely something here.” Dean says, “Well, of course
there is, I didn’t imagine what happened. Once this
thing appears, how do we kill it Sam?” The room warms
up. The readings have faded out. Whatever was going
on in that room has subsided, for now.
Dean says, "Do you think it heard me and just left?” Sam
says, “I guess it did. I need to go find out more about
this place to figure out how to kill it. I think we should
get a motel room too. I don’t want to impose on those
girls. We could be here awhile.”
They go back to the Impala. Sam has 6 messages on his
cellphone. Most of his messages are from Ruby. He
decides he will call her back when Dean falls asleep.
There is one message from Starla. Sam says, “Starla
left a message on my cell. Should I listen to it and call her
back?” Dean says, “Of course you should. We should
probably go over there to make sure they are ok.”
Sam listens to the message. He deletes the ones from
Ruby before Dean sees them. The message says, “Sam,
I’m sorry if I was rude earlier. That dream just always
freaks me out. Can we talk about it more when you
have time?” Sam says, "Dean, she wants to talk. DO we
have time for that?” Dean says, “There is always time
for that Sammy. Tell you what, we will go to their
house. I’ll hangout with Mila a bit while you take Starla
to go get us a motel room so you two can um talk.” Sam
agrees with Dean’s plan. Dean calls Mila to tell her he
is on his way. She tries not to show her excitement in
her voice. When she hangs up, she tells Starla.
The boys pull in their driveway two minutes later. Dean
goes up to the house and knocks on the door. Sam is
right behind him. Mila opens the door. She has a big
smile on her face. Dean does too. Dean says, “How’s
it going, Dr? I could use more of what you gave me last
night and I don’t mean the Vicodin.” Mila grabs his hand
and pulls him straight upstairs.
Sam walks in looking around for Starla. She is sitting
at the kitchen table drinking coffee with her back
towards him. Sam says, “Hey Starla.” She turns to look
at him. Starla says, “Hey Sam.” Sam says, “You want to
come with me so we can talk more?” Starla says, “Yeah
Sam, I do.” She gets up and follows him out the door.
They get in the Impala and he drives until he see a
motel. They are silent in the car. They pull in the
motel. Sam checks in. He opens the passanger door and
helps her out. They go in and sit on the side of the
bed.
Dean and Mila are in her room under the covers. Dean
says, “You are so beautiful.” Mila says, “You’re sexier
than I am bueatiful.” He kisses her…
Sam moves in to kiss Starla. Her eyes glow not yellow, not
black but a bright blue as he kisses her neck. She says,
“Sam, do you know? Do you know I’m here for you?”
Sam says, “Yes, Starla. I know.” She says, “I’m here.
It’s me Sam. It’s Jessica.”
