“Thou shall not judge others”
November 6th 2006 01:18
Recently I was in a discussion about the Bible and what this faith is all about, and I did give my testimony that I did judge on other Christians years before when I did not like that idea when one person goes to church for their “little agenda”.
I was questioning: What determines a Christian? Was it all the love words and kindness shown to people? Or the declaration that he / she believes in Jesus? Yet at that moment seeing those who “took advantage for themselves” was the only thing I could see from Christians.
When I was saying this, I tried to explain that it was the “me then” not the “me now”, but before I could complete my sentence about my testimony I was cut out with this sentence “Jesus once said, “Thou shall not judge others.” You shouldn’t have judged.” Was that a pre-judgement before allowing me to complete my sentence? Though I try to think hard that I might have misinterpreted my sentence but it was harsh enough hear this.
Enough about Christianity. Although I did start with this as an example, but in reality, many love to judge others, especially looking into other’s faults. Ironically, in the present world where competition is always a hot topic between every person, judgemental of others becomes a norm.
“Look at that girl, she’s so bitchy. No wonder she is still singles in her late 30s. So, I’m still not that bad after all.”
(An example of a mid 30s spinster’s comment)
People tend to pick on other’s faults so that he / she feels better, a supposing “self-lift of confidence“, but what does it happen when it because familiar? Gossip starts, attention of doing your best lessens and you waste most of your energy picking other people’s faults and gossip all about it.

Question:
Do you allow yourself to become a person who likes to judge others?
If you do realise you are judging people regularly, do you stop for a thought: “Before you judge others, have you ever thought that you might be doing the same?”

A Lesson A Day
I admit that I judge people quite regularly, and exactly for that "self-lift of confidence." I have however decided to take action on this behavior. I decided, for example, that I won't ask about other studens' marks, and I also wouldn't tell anyone mine. That cultivates humbleness and keeps jealously and judging at bay.

Yes, human tend to sway into looking at the faults of others in order to "lift themselves up". They are so negative up to the point they have forgotten what this beautiful world can offer. Humanity is coming to extinct and yet no one realise that.
