The History of Hating Japanese.

October 28th 2006 21:53
Kob's Crap
Kob's Crap

For the last hundred years Asia has hated the Japanese and for at least half of that time, so has the West. Certainly as a race, the public utterances of their leaders and representatives has been very hard to understand. Nor is it at all clear that, like the Germans, they have been sufficiently penitential. The Germans have a culture both during the last world war and in the half century after, of intellectuals, Brecht, Werner Hertzog, Fatzbinder, Gunter Grass and others of calling their nation to account for what happened. The Japanese have this in a limited form but these writers and intellectuals are virtually unknown within their own country and known only to the literati in the West.

The building of the Holocaust museum which has been part of the German spiritual reparations, is inconceivable in Tokyo. Textbooks which either gloss over what appalling things were done in Asia or portray the Japanese military as heroes would never have been permitted in Germany nor would a shrine to Hitler (leaving aside Angela Merkel’s shocking visit to a Waffen- SS shrine) , as there is one to Tojo, Japanese general and wartime Prime Minister at the Yasakuni Shrine. The inscription there reads, “Japan was forced into the conflict to maintain independence and peace of the nation and to increase the prosperity of all Asia.” It is easy to understand why this upsets the Chinese so much. The Japanese killed 10 million of them. They went about this in a way that gives reality to all of the bizarre propaganda posters nations create during conflict. In Nanking where they were led by a cousin of the Emperor, they butchered 200,000 including raping women to death and impaling infants on rifle bayonets. It was almost as if the soldiers foretold the Western posters which would portray them as barbarian monsters.

Under the command of General Ichi (who was never prosecuted for his crimes) the Japanese “experimented” on Chinese including using their bodies to test the impact of high caliber weapons and seeding the population with plaque carrying fleas which they dropped from planes like crop dusting insecticides. Kobayashi Yoshinori, the Japanese cartoonist believes that Japanese text books should be more patriotic and the Chinese have made up the stories of atrocities. His cartoon, On War sold 600,00 copies. His work is vile, kitsch and sentimental. It is an appalling atrocity in itself.

Koizumi
Elvis Fan

We have already been presented with the ridiculous figure of the Japanese Prime Minister, Koizumi, crooning Liza Marie Presley at Graceland with “Love me Tender” Bush presented him with a jukebox full of Elvis hits to celebrate their, “close friendship”. Instead of going to Yasakuni Shrine to lay wreathes he should be bowing and begging forgiveness for what was done in the name of Japanese Imperialism. If the English can dig up their dictators and chuck them in a sewer there is no reason the Japanese cannot do the same.

If the Japanese are concerned about their image in the West then perhaps they had better start behaving themselves and start telling the truth in their history.

War on Terror: False Metaphor

October 28th 2006 08:43
St. George
Heavy Hitting Billionaire

Regarding two rich recent releases for rabid readers about Iraq which are not to be rejected. There is the view from the top, Soros and the view from the bottom, Rory Stewart. What do I mean? Soros is a Billionaire investor and castigator of the Bush Republican Government. He quite rightly illustrates in his book, The Age of Fallibility: The Consequences of the War on Terror that “war on terror” is a false Metaphor and is not really a war at all but simply a means to prosecute a bankrupt conservative ideology. While he does not say it, this has much to do with the cerebral material in and around the White House. In short, when the dogs are out hunting the Owls are hiding. And from the bottom there is the view of the man on the ground, Rory Stewart who was for a time the Governor of Maysan and Dhi Qar, sourthern provinces in Iraq.

The use of the term “War on Terror” is characteristic of a regime with its own kind of “newspeak”. It should not be forgotten that from those same lips came promises of bringing home Bin Laden dead or alive (unfulfilled) and the promise of a Crusade (fulfilled but with bloody consequences).

It does not stretch the intellect too much to realize that we are being conned by our Governments about what is going on in Iraq. We have become bloated and acquiescent. We are like the child in the secure compound who asks about the noise outside and is told that there is a lot of rape and pillage going on but it’s alright because, “We are safe inside.”

Here, in short, is what Soros is saying. The US is led by extremists like Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld who believe that the truth can be cynically and successfully manipulated. Though regarded as a legitimate response to the events that happened on 9-11, it is in fact destroying the open society that is supposed to be America. He believes that a world that continues to allow itself to be led by the US is on the brink of destruction. After the ill-conceived and foolish war on Iraq he says, “the main obstacle to a stable and just world is the United States of America.” He believes that American policy is being framed in theological terms. This leads to the religious newspeak that has characterized the mutterings of George Bush who is far too influenced by the Israelis and by the religious right in America. Soros believes that it is almost as if the people of America are clamoring to be deceived.

Sadr
Sadist?

Rory Stewart was sent as a government official to govern two unruly provinces in Southern Iraq by the coalition forces. He does with sensitivity and imagination and this is illustrated in his book, The Prince of the Marshes and other Occupational Hazards of a Year in Iraq. During this time there he developed a close relationship with one of the tribal leaders, Abu Hatim who was described as “The Prince of the Marshes”. The marsh Arabs were a unique community of Shias that were persecuted by Sadam Hussain who destroyed their way of life by having their marshes drained. But Abu Hatim is not a prince nor even a tribal leader but only someone who believes that he should be fully armed so that he can shoot dissenters. Stewart’s work as governor, during which he managed to secure the release of a British hostage depended on his special way of dealing with the people but he was always undermined by the coalition forces who had the bizarre ideal that they were bringing democracy with all its ‘benefits’ to the people of Iraq. In the process of refusing to deal with tribal leaders who the US saw a politically incorrect, they are really destroying the place. Later Stewart was to come back after his term of duty to review the province and see what had happened to it. He found that despite the best efforts of the Americans it had degenerated in a Moslem Sadrist state. “reactionary, violent and intolerant to women,” the very thing they hoped to avoid.” The book has amusing anecdotes such as when one of the coalition workers started drawing figures on a white board and the tribal leaders stormed out declaring, "He is drawing a dog!." Many of his descriptions of the coalition leaders trying to change the tribal structures in Iraq would be amusing if they were not so pathetic.

These works are not to be missed. Bloggers should be reaching for Amazon.com or Barnesandnoble.com buttons and ordering copies when they leave this posting.

Adios.

Terrorist
Not you.

First of all,who is THEY?
Your basic legal rights have not changed in a western English speaking country because of the introduction of terrorism laws. See below. Some of our voters have already pointed out that they have been contacted about “things” they have written but it is not established if this was in a blogging site or an article. Don't listen to anyone who says that THEY are not reading what you are writting, THEY are. In any case it may happen and you need to know your basic rights.
If contacted by phone or in person you have the right to know who is contacting you otherwise don’t talk.
a. The name of the person
b. The authority they represent e.g. CIA, FBI, ASIS, ASIO
c. The identity number of the person, Federal police or State police number or ASIS or ASIO authority number.
d. The reason for the contact. What have they read? Why are they speaking to you about it?

Then record the information and DON’T TALK TO THEM. Remember anything you say will be recorded, distorted, corrupted and used in a court.

Detention: What if THEY want you to go with them?
Let’s leave aside customs or leaving the scene of a crime. We are talking about your home or the street if approached. THEY may ask you to accompany them to a place to ask you more questions or to help them. DON’T GO WITH THEM. You do not have to assist a police person or authority, go with them to an office or do anything other than go about your business unless THEY are prepared to charge you. You are only obliged to accompany them if charged. Then establish
a. What is the charge?
b. What authority do they have to enter your premises, search it or detain any property. Look at the warrant. Is it correct and is the date correct?
c. What is the evidence for the charge?
d. What are your rights and what do they now propose to do with you?

If you do then accompany them, which is advised but only if charged. DON’T TALK. Do not believe them if they say you are not entitled to phone someone. You have the right to remain silent. Exercise that right. If you say anything it will be recorded, distorted corrupted and used in a court of law. You have a right to legal counsel and to have someone speak on your behalf. Always exercise that right.
If they do charge you Habeas Corpus applys. They must bring you before a magistrate or judge within a statuatory period, twenty four hours saving the weekend. Exceptions occur if you are a stateless person, see below.
If you ever were to go to court, its hard to imagine that on the basis of a blog, though they will tap your phone and read your mail and probably are already doing it, you simply tell the truth, where you got the information from and who told you. Remember you are a blogger, not a journalist, so you have no obligation to protect your sources.

Al-Kateb v Godwin was a decision of the High Court of Australia, which ruled on 6 August 2004 that the indefinite detention of a stateless person was lawful. The case concerned Ahmed Al-Kateb, a Palestinian man born in Kuwait, who moved to Australia in 2000 and applied for a temporary protection visa. The Minister for Immigration's decision refusing his application was upheld by the Refugee Review Tribunal and the Federal Court. In 2002 Al-Kateb declared that he wished to return to either Kuwait or Gaza.[1] However, when it was discovered that no country would accept Al-Kateb, rendering him stateless, he was detained under the policy of mandatory detention

Tom Hanks
Hanks as Crueso

Civilization is congruent with dental care. During his incarceration on island remote, Tom Hanks in Castaway has a dental problem. The pain of it causes him to try to hammer the offending tooth out of his head and in the process he renders himself unconscious. The movie leaves this troubling issue there and when we next see Hanks he has become Robinson Crueso in svelte frame spearing the fish lean as that trout in Under Milkwood

Chris Columbus: The Flat Earth Myth.

Columbus
Dogmatist

The people at the time of Columbus did not believe that the earth was flat, a fact since ancient Greece. Yet this was taught us in Primary School where an image was created of the Italian explorer regaling the Iberian Courts with stories of China, how you could get there and how long it would take you by sailing the 'other' way while every one cried, “Heresy. The World is Flat.” . What I was not told in school was that Ferdinand and Isabella the King and Queen of Spain appointed a royal committee to examine whether the hair brained scheme of Columbus could be realized.

How Dangerous Is North Korea?

October 9th 2006 20:34
Taylor Dinerman an author and journalist based in New York has pointed out that although North Korea’s Taepodong missile test was a failure in July,

“Almost everything we know about the vehicle is based on pure speculation. We still don’t know for sure if the Taepodong 1 launch in 1998 that flew over northern Japan was a failed attempt to orbit a satellite or just a weapons test. In any case, one thing is for sure, these missile tests are part of their long-running campaign of psychological warfare against the US, South Korea, Japan, and everyone else

Not many princes write. Few of them write novels. Prince Giuseppe di Lampedusa wrote only one of significance which was never published in his lifetime but it reached the list of the greatest works of all time. This would not have impressed his mother who thought nothing of literature and had to die before Giuseppe could take up his pen. English is generally over-represented in the list of great published works. Di Lampadusa wrote in Italian or more accurately Genovese.

Di Lampadusa was more of a Duke than a Prince, the Duke of Palma and penniless at that. Dukes and Princes, what does it matter to us? Italian Princes abound, di Lampadusa was unique

Down at the local supermarket is a stall manned by two smiling young, attractive, well dressed, fresh faced enthusiastic types. As I approach the stall they tell me that they are collecting money for overseas children. They have the documents to prove it and show me how much of my particular donation will go to its intended recipient. When asked to show me how the money will be distributed, they exhibit a pie chart and the collection admin slice does appear very thin but “other” is 15%. They don’t know which part of the slice they are paid from.

They are actually hosting what in the advertising trade is called an “event”. They are casuals, usually traveling and earning money from overseas and they are working for a company that has found a way to “milk” the overseas aid market. In another part of the supermarket are some other youth working for the same promo company but this time they are flogging American Express

It is only one who is thoroughly acquainted with the evils of war that can thoroughly understand the profitable way of carrying it on. — Sun Tzu, The Art of War

Metal Storm was invented by a Brisbane Grocer. This unassuming man by the name of O’Dwyer has created the most frightening weapon short of tactical nuclear missiles ever conceived. Metal storm technology contains no moving parts except the bullets. It can deliver a million of these every minute. This will make O’Dwyer one of the richest men in Australia. As usual the inventor believes that he is making a significant contribution towards the peace effort. In this one is reminded of the murmurings of Gattling the hapless inventor of the first machine gun. The beneficiaries of Gattling were the innocent people of Africa and Gattling delivered to them the benefits of colonialism

Are you going insane? Early signs.

Mad Fred

Legend has it that Friedrich Nietzsche went completely insane with syphilis after a single act of sex with a prostitute called Salome. This seems a little unfair. Only 25% of those who catch this disease go onto the second stage and 25% of them develop the third, general paralysis of the insane, a condition basically where little organisms call spirochetes eat out your brain cells. A lot of people thought him loony enough because of the ideas he espoused before he went really insane but there was not doubt when that happened. He spent the remainder of his life raving on about how he was the greatest philosopher who ever lived
