Latest from South America
Emillio Estavez Guzman, previously a distinguished forensic pathologist of Argentina, is facing charges that he has been consuming the flesh of unborn babies. Gusman, who has given no full explanation yet of his behaviour, is said to have had arrested after the remains of several children were found in his refrigerator. His wife was not charged because she was apparently unaware and thought that the remains were veal calves. The children were the still born babies of poor indian women of the barrios of Buenos Aires and none of these women were aware of what has happened to their children. Many of them are deceased or had left the hospital where Guzman works leaving dead infants behind them.
As a pathologist Guzman had ready access to the bodies of the children from the hospital mortuary from which many of them were unclaimed. Guzman is a noted amatuer chef and was known for his lavish parties at which the favorite dish served was veal. Or was it? It seems that eating unborn calves is a delicacy in South American countries. The calves are taken when the adult cow is slaughtered. Guzman allegedly claimed at this parties that veal meat eaten cooked and unseasoned, is bland and unattractive but it has the special ability to take up sauces and seasonings providing a unique flavour that no other meat has. He was the subject of several articles extolling the virtues of his veal cooking. Guzman's wife and many of his guests are said to be having psychiatric counselling.
Despite the gruesome nature of his activities Guzman may not be facing serious charges beyond cannibalism and the stealing of corpses. It seems that after a famous plane crash in Argentina where the people became cannibals, the laws were liberalised.
