My New BlogOctober 18th 2008 17:51
I've started to write for a newly formed sports blog at gearupforsports.com. Right now you could find a MLB playoff blog as well as a couple of football team blogs.
Check out my first post about the downfall of nicknames in Major League Baseball. Enjoy.

The JinxOctober 11th 2008 15:27
Does anybody else ever go through a period when whichever team you root for in a sport refuses to win? ‘Cuz it’s happening to me right now.
I’m a huge Met fan. They had such a good team this year and only the worst bullpen to come around in my lifetime could have prevented them from making the playoffs. So, without my team in, my prediction for the World Series was the Cubs and Angels. I really thought that they were the two best teams in the MLB this season; and not just because they had the best records either. I don’t follow the AL as closely as the NL, but I thought the Angels looked good this year. I know they played in a weak division but they seemed built to win in the playoffs. They had a pretty good lineup, but relied mostly on their pitching to win. Plus, the rest of the AL did not look too strong. The Sox are banged up, the Rays are inexperienced, and the White Sox just don’t belong in the playoffs. But, again, the team I expected to win got upset in the first round. My other World Series pick, the Cubs, were destined for a similar fate. I really believed that the Cubs would win it all this season, breaking their century-long drought. They had the most balanced lineup in the majors and great pitching. But, for a third time, the team I was cheering for was doomed to defeat. So in the Championship Series’ I had to pick two new teams to win. On principle, I can not cheer for the Phillies so I had to go for the Dodgers (who are down 2-0). In the AL, I really like the Rays over the Red Sox for no other reason than I just enjoy watching the team play. But they, too, lost the first game of that series. I have decided to put this jinx to the test. I am going to cheer for the Phillies and Red Sox and see if they start losing. I don’t really expect it to work, though, because the only reason I’m rooting for those teams is so that they will lose (if that makes any sense). I think for the jinx to work, you have to legitimately be cheering for a team. The thing I really have to be worried about is if this jinx will cross sports lines; I can’t have my Giants losing to the Browns on Monday Night.

No October Baseball, Again...October 5th 2008 22:44
Last week may have been the worst of my sports-watching life. Since the Giants had their bye, the only thing for me to watch last weekend was the Mets yet again missing their chance to get into the playoffs.
This entire week I refused to watch baseball. The Mets had a better lineup than the Phillies and better starting pitching than the Brewers. The only thing that prevented them from beating either of these teams for a playoff spot was their epically bad bullpen

Change is a Good ThingOctober 2nd 2008 13:52
Sportramble.com is changing authors. My name is Joe and I have lived my entire life in New York. I am an avid sports fan with a New York bias. I'll try to keep this bias under control as often as possible for this blog, but I can't keep it from coming out every now and then. I follow the Mets and Giants religiously, and am starting to hope again that the Knicks become relevant. I'm not the biggest hockey fan so don't expect too many posts on it. I hope my posts will encourage comments and I love a good sports argument, so if you disagree with me please let me know. If you want to find out more, check out my profile and other blog. Enjoy.
