Battle of the Boobs

June 4th 2008 05:07
Did I miss something? What did Renee and Alice say that so infuriated Bianca? Did they suggest she get a breast reduction? Sensible advice, if you ask me.

It seems that Bianca is more hung-up about her breasts than anybody else. She is the one who assumes that people will judge her because of her eye-popping assets. Or are they assets? They are when she wants them to be - if she feels like taking the girls out to party. They are liabilities when she wants her intellectualism acknowledged.

Is she such an intellectual? It could just be the editing, but so far she has not said anything too high-brow. Her lack of knowledge about the Stolen Generation was embarrasing, but I suppose Socrates, or whoever she's supposed to have read, was not discussing that issue.

Her sensitivity on this issue is boring. Time to work out a few smart come-backs to people if she is so smart, rather than reacting to every perceived affront. And really, is a breast reduction such a bad idea?

What sort of pressure does it put on her back having to support that weight? Maybe she will feel it more when she's older. She's only young. She could have a lot of fun with the girls in the meantime, if she lightened up and stopped taking herself so seriously.

Isn't it ironic that half the women in the house have had boob jobs to enlarge their breasts and Tizia Booberina does nothing but whinge about her huge ones.

We're never happy, are we?

Did the active wear industry send out an emergency SOS for Carson Kressley's appearance on BB? Terri's backside, which the camera seems to adore, must be setting the trackie-dackie industry back 50 years. Carson got it right when he said her usual outfit of grey trackies and a t-shirt is perfect for cleaning out the basement.
But didn't she frock up nice? Carson did a good job. And he had tough material to work with. He, the old trooper, provided all the laughs in this entertaining segment as most of the house-mates came across as unintelligible mumblers.
It seemed like Corey, the quintessential teenager, was auditioning for another version of the Yep, Yep, Nup, Nup, Dunno teenage song which could have been written about him. But as Carson says, Corey has a strong sense of identity and style and Carson did not want to mess with it. If being a teenager is about having some fun and mucking up a bit then Corey's got it right.
He makes Bianca seem like a total kill-joy. If we're talking scary teenagers then Bianca's much scarier than Corey. How did she get to be so mature, so sure of her beliefs, so hard-line at such a young age? She is such a princess!
And why didn't BB let Carson make-over Travis? If ever two people needed to interact it was those two. (Wasn't that a major part of the promotion before-hand?) Travis, who's voice some psychologists say may be the result of discomfort about his sexuality, could have had a life-changing moment meeting the out-there Carson.
Now Dixie has been inspired to ask for some joggers. How beautiful would she be if she got into better shape? And maybe instead of crying she could hop on the stair-master. Much more productive.
While all the gilrs love Rory, isn't Nate-o a nice guy? His sensitivity towards Renee was most impressive. That girl has a serious self-esteem issue. Nateo's trying to get her to stop putting herself down. Just because she's uneducated and inexperienced now doesn't mean she has to stay that way and if she thinks that keeps her in a lesser league, then do something about it! In the meantime she should not feel inferior.
Maybe Carson's make-over will most effect Renee - letting her get a glimpse of her own gorgeouseness...it's there if she wants it.

Big Brother Mixing It Up

Dixie says it takes a lot to make her cry, but the reality seems otherwise. She's cried for her Mum, she cried when Rani had to leave and now she's crying because Samson's had a go about 'hiding food'. IPoor Dixie ended up on the toilet floor having a howl.

To viewers it may seem an over-reaction, but living in close proximity with so many others must have a hot-house effect, so who's to judge? One wonders though if BB considered the cultural sensitivities of including minorities in the house. It must be hard for Dixie, as an Aboriginal, to be surrounded by the majority of Anglos and then to be accused of 'hiding' (does that mean stealing?) food.

With the negative stereotypes of Aborigines current in Australia, that suggestion (or accusation) may have greater weight and seriousness than if it was levelled at one of the Anglos in the group. It also just seems unfortunate that the boys intended to set up Dixie for Princess Sparkles disappearance. And who's locker did Saxon think of when the boys wanted to plant the bug and scare the girls? Dixie's, of course.

There is nothing overtly racial in these incidents, but is there an unconscious racism at work? One that even Dixie does not seem aware of, or articulate, but couldn't that be part of the reason she takes things so badly?

I doubt that BB thought about any of this stuff. I mean isn't the unfortunate injury to Rani, doing a stunt that was totally unsuitable to her, enough indication of the show's lack of care?
