British five-piece Maximo Park have announced the release of their new album. Their sophomore release and followup to their debut, A Certain Trigger, is entitled Our Earthly Pleasures and is scheduled for a release on April 2 this year in the UK. The American released date is currently set for a month later, on May 8, and will include two bonus tracks, "Pride Before a Fall," and "Distance Makes."
The album is to be preceded by their first single to be lifted from the album, "Our Velocity," on March 19. You can already hear the single on their Myspace.
Popular acid jazzer Jay Kay, better known as front-and-only-man of Jamiroquai, has announced his retirement from music. The decision comes shortly after his departure from label SonyBMG, and switching to Columbia Records. The split with Sony marked the end of a 14-year eight-album relationship that left Jay unhappy with his musical career, and consequently lead him to make the decision to quit music altogether, despite recently signing with Columbia.
The move to quit doesn't necessarily come at the peak of Jay's musical brilliance - which some say passed a few years ago - and, with Dynamite being the first Jamiroquai album unable to crack the top two spots in the UK Charts, the same can be said for his fame. Nevertheless, his career, beginning with his debut album Emergency on Planet Earth in 1993, saw the sale of 27 million albums.
"I haven't been happy there for a while," Jay said about his relationship with SonyBMG. "When we talked about me leaving, I jumped at the chance. I don't want to go back on the road. I don't need the money or a deal."
An eighth original LP (discluding the High Times compilation) was reportedly planned for later this year, however that seems unlikely in light of his decision. Thus far, he has made no commitment or plan to rejoin the music industry later down the track, however there is a possibility that he may return later on.
It seems that the motives behind the breakup of Audioslave may have finally been revealed. Until now, it was believed that the breakup was due to a number of factors, mainly the reconciliation between the band and De La Rocha, and Chris Cornell's desire to further pursue solo projects. However, several sources have told the New York Post that Cornell's departure is about money rather than either of the former motives.
In a recent article in the New York Post it was revealed "Chris was unhappy with the financial arrangement within the group - he wrote all the music, yet the other three bandmates took an equal share in the multimillion-dollar publishing rights." Somehow I'm not surprised. Nevertheless, the newly revealed information gives light to the idea that perhaps the formation of Audioslave wasn't so wish.
Regardless, the reformation of Rage Against the Machine continues, with the band well-and-truly reconciled with De La Rocha. The band have announced their appearance at Coachella 2007, and a slew of tour dates with the Wu Tang Clan across the coming months.
Ok, so I've been away from the orble community for quite some time, and I regret to say that I can no longer afford my time on so many blogs at once. From here on in, I will try my hardest to keep on going with my one and original musictimes, but my others have reverted to Open Blog status. I am perfectly willing to continue managing them as blogs, however I can no longer contribute to them and as such I encourage other Orble members to join and contribute to them. MusicTimes is also an open blog in its current state, and I'll keep it that way for now, so you can also contribute to that should you wish.
