My opinion is merely that & it thrills me to know that this method of communication may reach someone (maybe even two) that agrees with me.

A Date Night with Steve & Tina

April 13th 2010 18:39
So, I read a review about Date Night prior to arriving to the show on Saturday afternoon. I typically do not listen to any of the reviews because an opinion is just that - everyone has one, right? Nevertheless, I'm a sponge so I arrived with a pretty bleak outlook on what was to come. However, I was pleasantly surprised! How can you be disappointed when you're spending an hour and a half with Steve Carrell and Tina Fey? Throw in a Mark Wahlberg shot and I'm good. Was it a bit cheesy? Sure. Were you able to predict the "happily ever after?" Of course. But I laughed.

No, it wasn't an original idea, but pairing Steve & Tina together was pure genius. Do it again!

Oh and don't forget to stick around at the credits - you get some pretty funny outtakes!

Repo Men, really?

March 21st 2010 23:01
I went to the movie theater spontaneously this beautiful Saturday morning and was hoping to get an early show before noon (they are only $6 a piece, can't beat that) and the only thing that I could make was Repo Men. Now, I had seen the previews and truly love Jude Law and Forest Whitaker, but I had not planned on seeing this in the theater. After all, I'm very girlie when it comes to movies and typically shy away from blood, guts and gore. However, I was there and I had already walked to get there so I was not turning back. The movie started off in quick action and the dynamic between Jude & Forest was actually pretty enjoyable. Then the plot begins and they're slaying, slashing, retrieving and slinging blood everywhere. It was all I could do not to shut my eyes and just listen. The characters were in hysterics a lot of the time and I couldn't help but think, "What in the world were the writers thinking?" This just seemed like a sick and twisted plot that really left me feeling hollow, no pun intended. Do people actually believe our world will come to this? We will sign up to pay $625,000 for a new liver and be put on payment plans and should we default (which we will) then people will come in the middle of the night and retrieve their property? I have had my car repossessed and that still stings - I can only imagine what it'd be like to have a body part taken from me. Hell, there's a 90% chance I wouldn't even be alive thereafter. The point? Take the time to smell the roses, accept the body/life that you have and do not be so greedy that you jeopardize your life and the live of your loved ones in some financial scheme. That's all it really is anyway, a scheme to take your money and leave you with nothing.
Point is, I closed my eyes quite a bit and really could have done without all the blood, guts and gore.

What's next, Gumby 2.1.0.?

March 21st 2010 22:32
It's a rainy Sunday and I've just gotten out of the early church service and headed to my other ritualistic venue - the movie theater! First off, let me preface this with the fact that my brand new umbrella that I purchased just got whipped up in the air and is now utterly useless and I walked in the wind and rain and I'm hungry and thirsty. Arrival time: 10:32am. Movie start time: 10:40am. Actual movie start time: 10:55am. I retrieve my warm and toasty Starbucks (opted out of the $18 dollar faux butter drenched popcorn) and headed for the theater. I'm about to watch another romance movie and in my world that means that I will cry and I will need to visit the restroom straight away to make sure I'm not too puffy. Now, the previews have just begun as I station myself in an otherwise uncomfortable "comfortable" seat and pile my belongings (broken umbrella included) in the empty seat next to me. I'm feeling a little bit better already with my warm beverage seated in the "who the hell knows what's been in there" cup holder. So, a couple of coming attractions pass by and I'm stopped at a new movie coming out: The Runaways! This is the Joan Jett story played by girls not even old enough to purchase a pack of cigarettes. Seriously? Granted, I understand that historical plots are all over the entertainment industry, but I truly believe these movies that are retelling past tales are playing into the unavoidable misinterpretation of the past. The way we view something now that happened 30, 40, 50 and even 100 years ago is completely skewed and through tainted eyes. What happened to coming up with something new, unique and exciting? Are original ideas obsolete? We've got all of these comic books making movies, sequels, prequels and who knows what else. We've got television shows being remade or made fun of. We've got third party war stories, ancient tales and now Robin Hood? I'm asking you, are original ideas obsolete? What's next, Gumby 2.1.0.?
This ends with the fact that I went and saw Remember Me with Robert Pattinson and I'm not saying it was bad because it wasn't. However, I was shocked at the end when they put some character up in the Twin Towers on September 11, 2001. Really? I apologize for the spoiler, but I almost feel that was insulting and should never have been done. I do not even know anyone who died in that awful tragedy, but I'm betting there are going to be some grudges held after seeing this film by people who do.
The movie could have done without that. I left the theater more depressed and angry than when I had arrived. Good thing I've got The Runaways to look forward to, eh?
