It is disappointing to announce that I am signing off from Style Space after only a few short weeks. I'm in my second year of my course and I am already completely swamped! It's been fun while it lasted, and you will be hearing from me again!
Tomorrow we will welcome Jessica to Style Space, who is very keen to take over and will do a great job of it. So be sure to check out Style Space tomorrow to see what she's all about.
Thanks for the support!

According to Chloe, Gucci, Emanual Ungaro and many many more, the forecast for Spring 2007 is a revival of the ultimate 60's look, the shift dress. While it has been tweaked and changed, the classic shift that Twiggy wore so well has graced catwalks everywhere, in a variety of prints, lengths and shapes.

My favourtie take on the look, inspired directly from the 60's, were the sleeveless shifts in gold, mustard and beige at Chloe.

Ungaro had a much more playful colour palette, but he didn't stray far from the classic silhouette, updated by the square neckline and flared sleeves.

Mathew Williamson also had a modern take on the shift, using pastel shades and sequins to give it a fun outdoors kind of feel.

Another one of my favourites is this elegant white shift from Stella McCartney. It has a childish, romantic feel to it. The balloon sleeves create an interesting silhouette.

Jill Stuart created a similar romantic feeling in her mostly white collection.

I absolutely love the girliness of the shift dress, and it's so versatile! And if you don't want to wait until Spring to wear it, there are some great long sleeved versions in shops at the moment. It also features quite a bit in the Fall 2007 collections for DKNY, Diane Von Furstenburg and a few others. For more images and designer's collections, check out www.style.com.

I was on Anzac Parade in Kingsford the other day when I noticed this very shiny low rider bicycle hanging in the window of a clothing shop.
Upon closer inspection, I noticed how unique the inside of the store actually is. The whole concept for the clothing store, K1X, began in 1993 by a group of die-hard basketball players (who are still the head designers today). Their goal was to create a range of clothing for ballers only, both on and off court. Now, K1X clothing outfits a global team of ball players, and has also spilled onto the hip-hop scene, clothing dancers and musicians.
This is what founder and CEO, Christian Grosse had to say about K1X: “We do make a lot of stuff that is off-court, but for off-court basketball players, not off-court tennis players. Even our flip-flops and cashmere sweaters are obviously intended for ballplayers. That is what our customers have come to expect: basketball fashion”.
Although the store seemed a little empty when I was in there, I was assured that there’s a great new winter range about to arrive. And for those who aren’t really into basketball, the hoodies look really cozy, and there’s a great range of shoes. Otherwise, you could spend hours looking at the shiny bicycle…

As you may know, the 79th Academy Awards took place last night in the US. And I couldn't help but write about the dazzling gowns that graced the Red Carpet, of course the most exciting part of the ceremony to any fashion fiend. So here's my top ten looks for the night...

As a design student, I am always interested in what other young designers are up to. It's a tough industry, and we're so used to hearing stories from the other side, so I thought I would use this post to introduce a young crew of designers who are currently in the very early stages of establishing a fashion range labelled Unlucky Pierre. While at the moment they are selling printed T-shirts (let's not forget how Sass and Bide began) this is only a starting point for them before they move on to bigger and better things.
Shane talbot, the creator of the label, answered some of my questions on how to get started and the challenges involved for young Aussie designers

This is a photo of my friend Tess when we went for drinks on Cleveland St. Her outfit has a great 70's feel. It's a combination of vintage and new.

On Oxford Street in Bondi Junction the other day, I noticed a boutique shop called Lee Mathews Workroom. It first caught my eye because of the unique layout and interesting window displays. I soon discovered that, although this shop has only been open for 5 months now, Lee Mathews first opened her workroom in Newport, NSW in 2002, which is where most of the magic happens.

I was browsing through some of the collections that were shown at London Fashion Week last week, my favourite having to be the Marc by Marc Jacobs Fall 2007 collection.
The range featured skivi's worn under long woolen knitted cardigans for men and women, belted at the waist for the women and worn over wide leg trousers for the men. These were layered under thick coats in varying lengths, in a mixture of greys, burgundies and plaid

I was at the annual Good Vibrations Music Festival on Saturday, when I noticed a revival of a favourite 80's trend.

The infamous Rio Carnivale is beginning again, this year falling on the 17th of February. Although some may try, there is no other festival or celebration in the world that comes close to the annual Rio Carnivale in Rio De Janeiro as far as music, dancing and of course the excessive and breathtaking costumes. The Rio Carnivale is not only the biggest Carnival, but also one of the most interesting artistic global events. Foreign visitors alone number around 500,000 every year.
