Okay, okay, so I fell off the bandwagon a little. For a while there my computer wasn't functioning so I lost my cyber-world for a week or two, but I was going to the gym five days a week and doing between 15 and 45 minutes of weights and 15 to 30 minutes of cardio on the bike each session, plus eating really well...
Then I got sick... and, well, that didn't end well! Takeaway five days in a row - not just the Thai or Japanese I normally get, but Maccas, Hungry Jacks, Nandos and all sorts thrown in for good measure.
To be fair on myself, my hard work previous to this little slip must have paid off - between 19 September and 17 October I lost three kilos and 17cms off my measurements (neck, chest, waist, hips, thigh, calf and upper arm). That included a .5cm gain on my calf. Don't know how that happened. Haha.
So despite still having a sinus infection and feeling like crap, I'm jumping back on the bandwagon with both feet. I've decided to start doing "Meatless Mondays", so today I've had a beautiful fresh homemade salad with egg for protein and tonight I'll be whisking up an omelette after the gym.
I've also got a list of supplements as long as my arm that were recommended by a friend who is a personal trainer. So far, I'm only taking a multivitamin with minerals and antioxidants, a B complex, kelp (to help maintain healthy metabolism), Spirulina and Inner Health Plus and use flaxseed oil for my salad dressings. Have a few more supplements on my shopping list for next payday, but I think what I've got is enough for now (at least until I can get back into my daily gym routine)...
Yours in healthy living!
I've noticed one of the downsides of living in a regional area is a distinct lack of options when it comes to convenient diet foods. I finally managed to find a company, however, that delivers in my local area, so in an effort to, 1) save money, 2) stop wasting food, and, 3) not have to worry about cooking dinner after gym in the evenings, I purchased 14 dinners from the company and had them delivered last week.
The meals range from Chicken A La King and Roast Beef to Meatloaf and Veg and Lamb Casserole. So far so good. They taste alright (although, the mashed potatoes taste like peppery Deb) they're filling (although at 350g I wondered if they would be quite enough - it doesn't sound like much!) and perfectly portion-controlled.
The company offers a whole program for weight loss, however after looking at their meal plan I've decided it would be more economical (and better for me, because I'm a little bit fussy) to create my own plan - 'healthy' cereal with skim milk for breakfast, piece of fruit for morning tea, salad or veg with protein for lunch, nut or wholegrain bar for afternoon tea, pre-packaged dinner. I occasionally have berries and low-fat yoghurt or low-fat yoghurt with LSA for dessert if I'm still hungry after dinner (though I try not to eat anything after 8pm)...
Still struggling with the exercise motivation, though. Gym tomorrow. Promise.
My housemate has a BAD junk food addiction. Yes, this is the same housemate I had Hungry Jacks with on the weekend. Not an uncommon theme for him; I've been very good lately and only had HJs maybe twice in as many months, even though the nearest outlet is two minutes away from home...
Last night, said housemate went to his Dad's place for dinner and left saying he was bringing back ingredients for pancakes with icecream and maple syrup. Instead he came back with strawberries and Cadbury chocolate to melt and dip (my fave dessert ever!)... so of course I couldn't resist having a few, despite the fact he forgot the bowl was in the microwave and it broke... I don't think I ate any shards of glass...
Later, after doing some study (some NUTRITION study - see? I've even decided to study it so I can go about things the right way!) I decided to have a snack. Some fat free natural yoghurt with honey and LSA mixed through with a cup of yerba mate tea sweetened with a little honey (great for my laryngitis, too) and I joined my housemate in the lounge room to watch a sitcom.
Glancing over at the coffee table as I put my cup of tea down, I notice an almost-empty bag of homebrand jelly beans sitting on it. "Are these yours?" I ask him. "Yep," he replies. "Have you eaten all of these tonight?". "Yep", he laughs (somewhat embarrassed at this point). I flip the bag over to check the nutritional value. "OH MY GOD!" I squeal at him. "There's over 1200 kilojoules per hundred grams in here! That's around 400 calories per hundred grams - and it's a 400 gram packet! You've just eaten almost a day's worth of calories in JELLY BEANS!!!"
He stares at me, mouth open, mortified.
"Oh," he says. "Uh, maybe I should go for a run or something..."
Funny, though, that had I been the one sitting down to eat that bag of jelly beans six months ago I wouldn't have even considered how many calories I was consuming. These days, though, all I can think about is how many kilos it's going to add back onto the scales at the end of the week.
However, if I want chocolate, I will have chocolate. I just won't gorge myself on it.... or eat a whole packet of jelly beans!!
On another note, I weighed myself again this morning (I try to weigh myself around the same time once a week on the digital scales at work, so I have some consistency) - I've officially hit the 10kg mark. Exactly 10kg. I still don't see the change, but others have been noticing. I actually got told I looked "pretty" and "healthy" and "really good" on Friday night. Was nice for a change. Good incentive to keep going!
Now just to get to the gym... PT is fine, but the gym motivation still eludes me, even though I'm paying for my membership already...
Ugh. Why is it always so hard on weekends?
One of my best friends is in town for the weekend; he now lives in LA so this is a pretty big deal. He invited me out on Friday night, just me and three guys, for drinks. Looking at the label on my Smirnoff Double Black, I kind of had the feeling I should just stop at one (228 cal per bottle, or something equally ridiculous?)... but of course, being the only girl in a group of males means one thing - rounds. Of course, I'm never expected to buy a round, and on Friday night we weren't even out long enough to get to my shout, but it still meant having three "same agains" brought back to me... almost an entire days' worth of calories. Sigh

Although I still deny it was my fault, I admit I was addicted to junk food for too many years. I was a pretty skinny kid, and ate a wide and varied diet (although, I always hated salad). I didn’t have a school tuckshop til I got to high school, so brownies and hot dogs and daily cans of Coke didn’t make it into my school day diet until around grade nine.
My exercise was pretty good, although I never played any organized sports at school I did get into swimming pretty seriously in grade 12, and would spend around 45 mins at the nearby pool almost every afternoon swimming laps with a girlfriend
