It's Ok for Couples to Help Others
December 21st 2011 19:35
It’s Christmas, the season for giving. When we are dating someone we give them gifts. And we hope to get a gift from them. But how many of us give to others as a couple? How many of us volunteer our time to help others?
There are many ways to spend time with someone else besides dating them. You need not and shouldn’t spend all of your time alone. Find something or some way that you can help others in the community.
It can be a little thing like mowing and raking an elderly person’s yard. It could be a big thing like raising money for a charity. Whatever you fell like doing. There is no wrong way to help society.
We have couples at church who participate in many things from being ushers, to singing in the choir to being Deacons. For years, my parents did charitable work and community service while members of the Elks Lodge. Growing up in a rural area many families would help each other with their crops and livestock.
Many couples like to do their part by taking in animals that are homeless or abused. My nephew and his girlfriend recently did and I have a good friend who has as well.
And you can do this year around. It doesn’t have to be just at Christmas time. There are always organizations and charities looking for help.
Age doesn’t mean a thing. I volunteer at the local veteran’s home. Many of the people who there are elderly, but most of us who work and volunteer are young. We treat them with respect and kindness and they usually return the favor. It is a beautiful thing to see.
So find a way that you and your partner can help others.
It will make your bond stronger and maybe lead to more than just dating.
