It is not all about me! Say what?

Serving others is becoming obsolete in a world that tends to be “all about me.” When we are seeking acceptance – it is “all about me”. When we are seeking approval – it is “all about me”. When we are seeking promotion at the expense of someone else – it is “all about me”. When we are complaining because no one is serving us – it is “all about me”.
It is ironic that believers in Christ who are “all about me”, like to refer to themselves as “followers of Jesus Christ”. This is a contradiction in the fact Jesus came to give everything away while we want everything given to us. Once we get it – no one dare take it from us! True servants “give other people what they need” while deceived servants “seek what I want”. A true servant asks, “What can I do for others?” instead of “What can they do for me?” Jesus set the example of true servanthood by saying, “For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many” Mark 10:45. If we are bonafide followers of Christ, we will do no less.
If we are to qualify as “followers of Christ”, then we must do the things that He did for the same reasons that He did them. Jesus said, “Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me” Matthew 25:35-46. Servant ministry is a call to love others; and when we love others, we will do for them what is in their best interests.
