Is pessimism the new way? .... scary.......
September 4th 2007 08:28
"Money has always ruled the world and it will always be like that", "Nothing will ever change", "Politics is boring, and all politics are the same, why bother?", "We can not really change things, poverty will always be part of our world"..... These affirmations among others from the same type are the ones you often get if you discuss politics and social change with the young generations. That, if they even want to even discuss the subject and do not answer that they do not really feel concern and they they would rather discuss an other topic more entertaining like the latest movie, song or the last event of some artist they idolize. Don't misunderstand me, I make this observation from the inside, I am talking about my generation and the ones after.
In a way if feels for me like we are doomed.....
Are we really running out of people who think that we can change the world, that we are the ones who shape it and not necessarily the opposite?
Did we really forget or maybe just didn't learn that we were not always by consumerism and ego-centrism?
It is sad and scary at the same time. What does that tell about our future?
Sure we are aware of the damages we caused and still cause to our planet (ecologically speaking) but do we do enough to reverse that? Sure not enough but what about the other issues? Do they have to touch us personally to feel concerned? And is our donations triggered by our guilt to NGOs is enough (especially knowing the percentage of it that goes actually to the people concerned)?
