Is Jesus God?
June 10th 2007 00:31
John 1:1 states that In the beginning was the Word and the word was with God and the Word was God.
Then, later in the same chapter it further states: And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
The Old Testament also supports this view in Isiaih 9:6 which states:
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father,The Prince of Peace. And in Exodus when Moses asked God his name:
Exd 3:13 And Moses said unto God, Behold, [when] I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What [is] his name? what shall I say unto them?
Exd 3:14 And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you. Now when you turn to the New Testament, you find that Jesus is discussing his credentials with the jews
Then said the Jews unto him, Now we know that thou hast a devil. Abraham is dead, and the prophets; and thou sayest, If a man keep my saying, he shall never taste of death.
Jhn 8:53 Art thou greater than our father Abraham, which is dead? and the prophets are dead: whom makest thou thyself?
Jhn 8:54 Jesus answered, If I honour myself, my honour is nothing: it is my Father that honoureth me; of whom ye say, that he is your God:
Jhn 8:55 Yet ye have not known him; but I know him: and if I should say, I know him not, I shall be a liar like unto you: but I know him, and keep his saying.
Jhn 8:56 Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw [it], and was glad.
Jhn 8:57 Then said the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham?
Jhn 8:58 Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.
Jhn 8:59 Then took they up stones to cast at him: but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by. So the only conclusion I arrive at after looking closely at this is God assumed a human form (as Jesus)and came to earth to go through all the feelings and emotions and sufferings Yet without sin, and to be crucified on a cruel cross shedding his blood to save us from sin and the ultimate punishment in Hell forever. For the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Romans 6:23
Hebrews 4:15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as [we are, yet] without sin.
Many false cults have taken issue with this and deny Jesus' deity. Just remember this is one of the marks of a false religion.

Comment by David
I have no doubt whatsoever in my mind He is. That is my Faith.
As to convincing others of it? I'll leave that up to others (those other than the others). And mainly those called and appointed dispensers of the mysteries of Faith.
It's rare to convince someone of anything by the sheer power of logic and reason alone. Or by quoting Sacred Scripture. Even moreso when it comes to matters of Faith.
If you take the following two statements of Christ:
The Father is greater than I.
Unless a person believes Christ is God, and in the Incarnation (God made man, the Word made flesh), that person will struggle with the seeming contradictions coexisting in the two statements.
But in terms of Christ being one person with two natures [A Divine nature and a human nature]? The statements make complete sense. Equal to the Father in His Divine nature. Inferior to the Father in His human nature.
But they presuppose Faith itself.
I thought I may as well write something, since I read the Post.
