Irritation Service Providers
August 5th 2008 06:48
Today I'm going to get into a discussion about something that effects almost all of us. If you haven't figured it out from the title parody, it's Internet Service Providers, or ISPs.
I'm going to make a pre-statement here that I will try and keep this post a bit cleaner than the others, as cleaner posts seem to be more popular (E.G. I get more votes on them). Let's jump in!
The internet is something that is widely used and utilized. Colleges offer online courses, many games can be played online, you can watch movies and videos online as well. (As if most of you didn't already know that -laughs to self-). Now, with all this in mind, along with all the internet users, you'd think we'd all have great providers and great connections...
Sadly that's not the case, and it aggravates me, immensely. My ISP is probably one of the worst out there. First off, my connection is 26.4Kbps, and is dial-up, (for those standing there with blank looks, that's like having a car that goes 15Mph.) It has been known to alternate, sometimes up to 28.8, sometimes as low as 14 or 12Kbps. Usually these alternations are rare and a quick reconnect will fix it. If this aggravation weren't enough, I cannot get DSL and cannot afford Satellite. I live too far back in the boonfails to get DSL. Also my location contributes to my net's speed. As an insult to injury, my ISP apparently thinks it's funny to require me to reconnect every two and a half hours. Which, by the way, is ILLEGAL.
I've not had much experience with other ISPs but from some of the tales that I have heard, there are other craptacular ones as well. Such as the DSL internet of a local friend of mine, his will sometimes just randomly go out. He has to wait and reset the router and whatnot, then wait an undefined amount of time to get the net back. A similar case with another friend, his would go out and stay out, then randomly come back up. Sometimes he'd be a week without net and probably ended up paying for net he didn't use.
It really does agitate me that in this age of the internet, there are still ISPs that fail beyond belief. I can understand a few problems, as the technical world of computers is an extremely complex one, so stuff is bound to go wrong. However, this is not the case, there are repetitive problems that they don't bother fixing. Are they stupid or lazy? Seriously, there's no excuse.
Even in the age of technology, with all our cool inventions and whatnot, there seems to be a few lazy idiots who wanna try and drag their customers through the dirt. Sad thing is it's not an uncommon site. It all makes me boil just thinking about it. I hate it, and I know everyone else hates it.
A word to the Irritation Service Providers: Make sure you have the damn basics down pat before you go founding a company.
I'm going to wrap this one up, relatively short rant for today. I'll leave by saying just a few things. First of which is the fact that I do have a few creative ideas for the future. You'll just have to wait and see what all I have in store as far as that goes.
Also, I already have next rant's topic in mind: Emo Kids (the fad ones mind you). I'll be bashing them in a day or two, so stay tuned....
This is Anthoric the Angry saying farewell!
