Does how the Brain works interest you?

October 16th 2006 07:44
What can you make of this image?

There are several sections of the brain which divide the cerebral hemispheres.

These are called lobes and are divided by sulci (grooves). There are 5 of these lobes, commonly known as frontal, parietal, occipital,
temporal and limbic.

Each lobe is responsible for various brain activities, the frontal for motor activities, parietal for tactile sensation and sense of position, language comprehension and perception, temporal for hearing, comprehension of language, visual information, learning and memory, the occipital for vision and the limbic for emotional responses, inner drives related to behaviour and memory.

These, of course, are very general outlines and there is overlapping between functions.

There are many sections of the brain which control and maintain
broad and very specific functions.

In general terms, those of us who are right handed have specific functions located on the left side of the brain. The left handed have theirs on the right side of the brain.

Approximately 10% of people are left-handed.

In normal right handed people the right hemisphere relates to functions of drawing, music, spatial perception and the left visual fields.

Their left hemisphere controls language, calculation and the right visual field.

Each hemisphere relates to hearing function.

When you look at Computer Art you are using many parts of your brain simultaneously and overall are influenced by your perception so a lot of brain activity is going on and if you try to reproduce it, a lot more is required.

So, by trying this new activity and looking at challenging images, you are engaging in exercising the mind and developing and maintaining brain function.

I shall try to find some illustrative examples which I can introduce in my blogs to enable your further comprehension of the brain.

It all depends how much you are interested and can interest others for my decisions concerning what I should place in these blogs.

As for the task in hand, what do you think of to-day's image? I'll leave your mind free to explore it as you wish.

You are interested in the brain and mind aren't you?

katyzzz,

This is the famous Pink Panther diamond, but the latest thief is more clever than all of the other thieves who has gone before him.

He has disguised the rock ingeniously by blu-tac-ing a few Lego bocks to it, and hired a graffiti artist to spray paint certain sections different primary colours, so he can get it through customs as the latest Rubric’s cube design.

This is very important for him because it gives him an excuse as to why the custom’s officers can’t analyse it too much; he has to protect the as-yet unpatented design.

He is also going to a foreign destination that he has never travelled to before (Melbourne) and he doesn’t want to look like some dumb tourist, so he has drawn a map of the streets over the top of the graffiti artist’s work to guide him when he gets there (but he has used different colours than Melways use so no-one will know what it really is). He has gone a bit overboard and drawn a picture of the Henry Bolte Bridge.

Homer,

Thankyou for your comments, darling!

I'm just so excited. I've located clowns, caterers and a very distinguished looking gentleman who
is just mad about, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, I've yet to meet him but I think he'll be a wonderful addition
to my guest list.

We SHALL most certainly be talking about sex.

And you may have heard the rumours about that family who do not have noses. Well, they're All
coming and bringing their relatives and friends.

Imagine what a coup that will be, if you get my gist.

I'm frightfully busy, you don't seem to be doing much writing, I thought you had a big week planned!

P.S. the traffic to my door is simply amazing, one could call it a virtual experience, no, no, no, I did
not say virtuous although some say I don't really know the difference.

Incidentally, I loved your comments on my work but do keep looking....hint...think of Physics!

Keep in touch, helps with the stats, uno. k................
