US Open Results - Women

September 1st 2011 03:41
Here are some very interesting results, some expected, some unexpected.

Parmentier (FRA) defeated 21- Hantuchova (SVK) 6-2 6-3

Another mediocre performance from the glamour girl - starting to lose her touch it seems.

Halep (ROU) defeated 6- Li (CHN) 6-2 7-5

The upset of the tournament so far, with Li, a Grand Slam winner this year, out in the first round. Halep has improved and looks to be a giant killer this tournament.

28- S. Williams (USA) defeated Jovanovski (SRB) 6-1 6-1

Azarenka must be nervous at the prospect of a third round encounter with Serena. She's the favourite and disposed of her opponent with distain.

Dulgheru (ROU) defeated 5- Kvitova (CZE) 7-6 6-3

Everyone loves the women's tennis because of upsets galore. Kvitova joins Li Na on the departing list.

12- Radwanska (POL) defeated Radwanska (POL) 6-2 6-3

It must be hard playing your sister in the first round, turned pretty ugly too.

9- Stosur (AUS) defeated Arvidsson (SWE) 6-2 6-3

Aussie fans will be happy to see Stosur is up and about again.

Delicious Round 2 Matches:

Cornet (FRA) vs 18- Vinci (ITA)
Suarez Navarro (ESP) vs Halep (ROU)
4- Azarenka (BLR) vs Dulko (ARG)
11- Jankovic (SRB) vs Dokc (AUS)
Williams (USA) vs Lisicki (GER)

US Open Results - Men

September 1st 2011 03:30
Round 1 of the US Open kicked off with some formalities and surprises alike, with many of the favourites going through but a few shocks along the way, here's some of the more interesting and key results:

1- Djokovic (SRB) defeated Niland (IRL) 6-0 5-1

No-one would be surprised, although it showed the Joker is in red hot form.

Davydenko (RUS) defeated 32- Dodig (CRO) 6-7 6-3 6-0 2-6 6-2

The former number four managed to outdo Dodig in a five set thriller despite the last three sets being pretty straight forward. Could he get back to his best? Sets up a tantalising third round match with Djokovic

Karlovic (CRO) defeated Gonzalez (CHI) 6-4 6-4 7-6

Unfortunately both these guys, renowned for their giant killing sprees at Grand Slams faced off, and Karlovic won it comfortably. He now faces Gasquet, and Richard must be feeling rather nervous.

Ferrero (ESP) defeated Andujar (ESP) 1-6 7-5 1-6 3-6

I think everyone expected Ferrero to triumph here, and he appears past his best, but he's always a dark horse who may provide some trouble for Monfils in the second round.

23- Stepanek (CZE) defeated Kolschreiber (GER) 6-4 6-1 6-3

A good win from a bloke who had to face off against a challenging opponent. You always know Radek will give 100% and this win was very good under the circumstances of what Philipp can do.

Haas (GER) defeated Dasnieres de Veigy (FRA) 6-3 6-4 6-7 6-1

Always good to see the old favourites in action. Past his prime, but a good win here.

28- Isner (USA) defeated Baghdatis (CYP) 7-6 7-6 2-6 6-4

Another match that deserved to be in the later rounds. Isner did well to win it in four as another quality opponent leaves in the first round.

Benneteau (FRA) defeated 10- Almagro (ESP) 6-2 6-4 6-3

What a thrashing surprise win for the Frenchman, and became the first big upset of the tournament.

Gulbis (LAT) defeated 16- Youzhny (RUS) 6-2 6-4 6-4

Another shock departure, which Nadal must be licking his lips in anticipation with his quarter of the draw looking very lowly rankings wise.

Tantalising Round 2 Matches:

Ivo Karlovic (CRO) vs 13- Richard Gasquet (FRA)
Juan Carlos Ferrero (ESP) vs 7- Gael Monfils (FRA)
Bernard Tomic (AUS) vs 27- Marin Cilic (CRO)
Robby Ginepri (USA) vs 28- John Isner (USA)
5- Ferrer (ESP) vs James Blake (USA)
Denis Istomin (USB) vs Julian Benneteau (FRA)
30- Ivan Ljubicic (CRO) vs David Nalbandian (ARG)
