How Egypt Really Votes!

There were parliamentary votes in Egypt recently that has brought up some issues. Most of the issues have arise due to the lack of transparency in voting. The NDP is the only party to have won a seat in the first round of voting, while the other two parties(one of which is not officially recognized) has to wait till the second round of voting to see if they will win a single seat. It is believed that this vote has been rigged so that the Muslim brotherhood losses all seats that they had attained in the last parliamentary vote.

The Muslim brotherhood is a banned political party in Egypt that has been attempting to take political power through these votes. The present government has gone to great lengths to assure this party doesn't win and can't take control. They have even gone as far as arresting thousands just a week before the vote.

The situation in Egypt is rather grim as there have been 2 deaths due to the uproar related to these votes. It'll be interesting to see the aftermath of on Dec 5 when the second round of voting occurs. Maybe this round will be a little more democratic.

The Korean Conflict

A recent attack on South Korea has prompted a reaction from the western world. After several died after the North Koreans shelled a South Korean island. But why would they do this? What gain did they achieve by killing a few South Koreans and invoke their big brother the Americans? I think it would be beneficial to view the strained relationship between the two Koreans.

Kim North Korea

The Korean War has been going on since the 1950’s and is still going on. There is only a cease fire between the two nations at the moment but they are still technically at war. So this action that was recently taken by the North Koreans isn’t considered to be an act of war but more or less a violation of the cease fire between the two nations. But this isn’t the first time that such action has occurred. There have been other periods in the past that North Korea has either threatened to or attacked the South.

It’s beneficial to look at the culture in North Korea. We all know them as being a sealed off isolated nation where there are a lack of liberties and basic necessities. This is mainly due to the Dear leader Kim Jung Il and his father great leader and eternal president Kim Il Sung. I find it ridiculous that they have an eternal president in place who is the dead father of Kim Jung il, the great leader Kim Il Sung. The leaders have isolated there people from the real world and have made them feel that they are living in the best place in the world. When from an outsider’s perspective we know this isn’t true. But the North Koreans have gone to great extents to make sure their people’s vision isn’t obscured through global media or the internet. They have brain washed the people to the point that the leaders are seen as gods and worshiped as if they have made the world themselves. A documentary done by National Geographic followed an eye surgeon as he repaired cataracts in many individuals in North Korea. Once the bandages were removed they went and praised a picture of their leader instead of the surgeon and his team. This is quite contrary to what would be seen in almost any other country in the world. (I recommend this documentary if you’re interested in seeing life in North Korea, it is called Inside North Korea). Very little is known about the real details of North Korea due to this isolation. From what information that is available we know that there is a severe hatred of the United States. There are propaganda films from North Korea where there are young kids singing songs about putting the Americans on their knees and showing them no mercy.

The fact that they hate Americans I believe is one of the many reasons why there is still such a huge separation between the North and the South. Since there is still such a high presence of American soldiers in the South this causes a fraction point to where conflict can arise from. This is most evidently seen at the Demilitarized Zone as there both Americans and Koreans patrolling this area. The American response to the recent shelling of a South Korean island has prompted the United States to send an aircraft carrier to that region. So the Americans have escalated what could very well be a mild situation that doesn’t have to be dealt through military action. At the same time that they have sent this aircraft carrier they have asked china to confront the North Koreans. What message is being sent to the North Koreas as the Americans try to deal with this situation both through military and political means at the exact same time? With the North backed by the Chinese this can be ground for a huge amount of conflict if the situation is to take a turn for the worse at any point. This can be seen as such a delicate situation as the wrong retaliation or action can lead to worldwide chaos and catastrophe.

This is just an outline of the current situation that could potentially get worse or have nothing come from it at all. This is something that may come up time and time again but I feel the more you know about the conflict and the North Korean culture the more you are able to understand about the situation at hand. North Korea is a small isolated country that wants to hide from the world mainly due to their egocentric leader who wants to feel like gods and have done so. But by doing so they have oppressed many, killed many, and have caused great conflict throughout their tiny country.

Borat Sequel

A Director in Kazakhstan has filmed a sequel to the box office hit Borat. This film has been produced so that it can change the image of Kazakhstan that was tarnished from the original movie. After the original movie came out the Kazakstani Government threatened to sue Sascha Baron Cohen the creator of Borat

Borat Sequel

I find it rather funny that a government has to go to this extent just so they can set the image of their country straight. You don't see Canadian's trying to do it after all the jokes American's make at our expense. Just shows how self-conscious the country really is.

The Cougar Cruise

There's a cruise next month to the Bahamas that has been targeted for younger males and older woman. The three day cruise next month will be the third edition. The event isn't large enough to take over a whole cruise ship with only 100 participants so they have just "invaded" a regular cruise. The only means of differentiation between them and the others off to enjoy a weekend away are bracelets.

How would you feel if you were on a family vacation with 100 party goers who were well up to some mischievous and adulterous acts

The house the size of a parking space

A man in Japan who still lives with his mother lives in a house that is only 30 square meters(322 square feet). That's about the size of your average parking space. This idea of ultra-small houses are appearing more and more throughout Japan as space is a premium. I wonder how long it will take to catch on in North America

The average house size in the US is 2440 square feet which is up from 1400 square feet in 1970.(http://www.nahb.com/) This is striking when you think about it. If you have the average nuclear family ( 2 parents and 2 kids) each would have 610 square feet of space. That's double what some people in Japan have in their whole house

The Actual US Debt, It's much larger than you think!

A Boston University economist put together some numbers and is speculating that the true debt of the us is $200 Trillion or 840% of the GDP. This is 14 times higher than what is being reported. So basically the US is broke according to this guy.

But who's to blame? I would say its former President George W. Bush as he was the motivating factor when it comes to the war in Afghanistan and more importantly the war in Iraq. It also didn't help that the banks all fell apart and were given a gigantic stimulus just so that they might be able to survive and fly in their private jets some more
